Trading-Off Privacy and Willingness to Share Personal Health Information: A Survey of Municipal Employees in Fukuoka City, Japan

Background: The global adoption of Personal Health Records (PHRs) has prompted discussions about data privacy and sharing preferences. Despite Japan’s advancing digital health initiatives, public attitudes toward health data sharing remain understudied. Objectives: This study investigated the willingness to share personal health information among Fukuoka City employees as part of the “PHR Fukuoka Project.” Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was distributed to 11,604 municipal employees from February 1st - 20th, 2023. The survey assessed willingness to share personal and family health information across 36 scenarios, combining six purposes (health maintenance, medical care, emergencies, research, product development, and family sharing) with six recipient types (family, friends, healthcare providers, employers, government, and private companies). Sociodemographic factors and digital literacy were examined through logistic regression analysis. Results: Of 1241 respondents (10.6% response rate), 17.1% were willing to share personal health information, 37.3% were neutral, and 45.6% were opposed, with similar patterns for family health information (15.6%, 34.0%, 50.5%, respectively). Male gender (odds ratio [OR] 1.43, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.12 - 1.82), smartphone use (OR 2.63, 95% CI 1.12 - 6.20), and health app usage (OR 1.41, 95% CI 1.09 - 1.83) predicted increased willingness to share. Respondents were most willing to share information for emergencies and medical care with family members and healthcare providers, while least willing to share for product development or with employers. Conclusions: While approximately half of respondents showed potential openness to sharing health information, privacy concerns persist. These findings suggest sufficient public support for digital health initiatives in Japan, though successful implementation requires careful consideration of sharing purposes and recipients, alongside robust privacy protections.

Main outcome measure(s) Pre-and posttreatme nt lymphocyte populations in endometrial samples, evaluated by immunohistochemic al identification. Result(s) Endometrial samples from pretreatment exhibited sma ll lymphocytic clusters of CD3+, CD8+, CD4+, granzyme B positive, and CD56+. After salpingectomy, the numbers of cluster lesions were significantly decrease d. Conclusion( s) Because a characteristic distribution of lymphocytes in endome trium with hydrosalpinges was found, activation of T/NK (natural killer) lymphoc ytes in endometrium might be involved in the impairment of embryo implantation i n cases of hydrosalpinges.

PURPOSE. To describe psychometric properties of a self- report questionnaire, the Veterans Affairs (VA) Low- Vision Visual Functioning Questionnaire (LV VFQ- 48), which was designed to measure the difficulty visually impaired persons have performing daily activities and to evaluate low- vision outcomes. METHODS. The VA LV VFQ- 48 was administered by telephone interview to subjects with visual acuity ranging from near normal to total blindness at five sites in the VA and private sector. Rasch analysis with the Andrich rating scale model was applied to difficulty ratings from 367 subjects, to evaluate measurement properties of the instrument. RESULTS. High intercenter correlations for item measure estimates (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICCAbstract=0.97) justified pooling the data from these sites. The person measure fit statistics (mean square residuals) confirm that the data fit the assumptions of the model. The item measure fit statistics indicate that responses to 19% of the items were confounded by factors other than visual ability. The separation reliabilities for pooled data (0.94 for persons and 0.98 for items) demonstrate that the estimated measures discriminate persons and items well along the visual ability dimension. ICCs for test- retest data (0.98 for items and 0.84 for persons) confirm temporal stability. Subjects used the rating categories in the same way at all five centers. Ratings of slight and moderate difficulty were used interchangeably, suggesting that the instrument could be modified to a 4- point scale including not difficult, slightly/moderately difficult, extremely difficult, and impossible. Fifty additional subjects were administered the questionnaire with a 4- point scale to confirm that the scale was used in the same way when there were four rather than five difficulty ratings. Objective: To compare the outcome of day 2 and day 3 embryo transfers in women demonstrating poor ovarian response. Design: Prospective randomized clinical trial. Setting: private assisted reproductive technology center. Patient(s): Two hundred eighty-one women demonstrating poor ovarian response to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. Intervention(s): Women who were poor responders were randomly allocated to day 2 or day 3 embryo transfer following oocyte retrieval. Main Outcome Measure(s): Implantation rates and pregnancy rates per oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer. Result(s): The clinical pregnancy rates per oocyte retrieval (37.2% vs. 21.4% , respectively; P < .05) and per embryo transfer (38.9% vs. 24.1% , respectively; P < .05) were significantly higher in the day 2 embryo transfer group compared with day 3. On the other hand, implantation rates were not different between groups (23.9% vs. 17.2% , respectively; P = .08). Conclusion(s): Our results demonstrated that trans-fering embryos on day 2 could provide an alternative to the management of poor responder patients.

Aim: To evaluate data related to mental work functioning of workers with cancer diagnosis in radiotherapy in a private service in the city of Campinas, State of São Paulo, Brazil. Method: It consists in a cross-sectional, observational and analytical study with comparison between cancer patients and healthy people, using the Brazilian version of the Work Role Functioning Questionnaire (WRFQ-Br). Descriptive and statistical analysis is performed by the Mann-Whitney test. Results: There was a significant difference between the groups in the evaluation of mental demand;however, the population diagnosed with malignant neoplasm submitted to radiotherapy had unexpected higher scores, reflecting lower mental exigency. Conclusions: The observed context may occur due to extensive support of family, government and interdisciplinary team of health care for individuals diagnosed with cancer. This data provide support for new research studies related to the importance of the work to promote mental health, considering aspects related to social interaction and productivity as the support system members. The importance of disseminating these results and limitation is based in the necessity of investments to improve research and actions to promote the permanence and early return to work for cancer survivors in Brazil and Latin America.

Objective. All- terrain vehicle (ATV) injuries among children represent a significant and growing problem. Although state level analyses have characterized some aspects of pediatric ATV- related injuries, little information on the national impact on hospitalization is available. This study was designed to characterize more fully the patterns of injury, hospital length of stay, and hospital charges associated with ATV- related injuries, with a nationally representative sample. Methods. Analyses were based on the 1997 and 2000 Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project Kids’ Inpatient Database (KID). The KID is the only national, all- payer database of hospital discharges for children. KID data were weighted to represent all discharges from general hospitals in the United States. Discharges with external cause- of- injury codes consistent with off- road ATV related injuries were selected, and the affected population was described. Nationally representative rates of ATV- related injuries were calculated, and changes between 1997 and 2000 were documented. Results. An estimated 5292 children were hospitalized because of ATV- related injuries during the 2- year period, and hospitalizations increased 79.1% between 1997 and 2000. Rates of ATV- related hospitalization were highest among adolescent white male subjects, consistent with previous studies. Most patients had hospital lengths of stay of 8 days. Injury severity varied considerably, with more than one third of patients sustaining moderate to severe injuries. Approximately 1% of hospitalizations resulted in in- hospital deaths. Total hospital charges for this injury mechanism were ＄ 74 367 677 for the 2- year study period. Most of these charges were paid by private insurers. Conclusions. This study provides evidence supporting recent substantial increases in childhood ATV- related injuries. The hospitalization impact of ATV- related injuries among children is considerable. Our data

Objective: To analyzethe FSH receptor gene in women with iatrogenic ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Design: Clinical and molecular studies. Setting: University hospital and private clinic. Patient(s): Twenty- nine women who developed moderate or severe OHSS after ovulation induction for *** addition, 50 fertile normal women were used as controls. Intervention(s): Peripheral blood was used for DNA extraction. The exons 4, 7, 9, and 10 of the FSH receptor gene were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) followed by automatic direct sequencing. Main Outcome Measure(s): Hormonal results and automatic sequencing analysis. Result(s): Thirteen patients developed moderate OHSS and 16 patients developed the severe form of the syndrome. Automatic sequencing revealed no activating mutations in all patients studied. We found two known polymorphisms in linkage disequilibrium, Ala307Thr and Ser680Asn, in 79.3% of the patients (44.8% in heterozygous and 34.5% in homozygous state). These polymorphisms were found with similar frequency in the 50 normal fertile women. Conclusion(s): We conclude that the FSH receptor genotype did not play a significant role in the risk of iatrogenic OHSS in this cohort.

The cryptic lifestyle of most fungi necessitates molecular identification of the guild in environmental *** the past decades,rapid development and affordability of molecular tools have tremendously improved insights of the fungal diversity in all ecosystems and ***,in spite of the progress of molecular methods,knowledge about functional properties of the fungal taxa is vague and interpretation of environmental studies in an ecologically meaningful manner remains *** order to facilitate functional assignments and ecological interpretation of environmental studies we introduce a user friendly traits and character database FungalTraits operating at genus and species hypothesis *** the information from previous efforts such as FUNGuild and FunFun together with involvement of expert knowledge,we reannotated 10,210 and 151 fungal and Stramenopila genera,*** resulted in a stand-alone spreadsheet dataset covering 17 lifestyle related traits of fungal and Stramenopila genera,designed for rapid functional assignments of environmental *** order to assign the trait states to fungal species hypotheses,the scientific community of experts manually categorised and assigned available trait information to 697,413 fungal ITS *** the basis of those sequences we were able to summarise trait and host information into 92,623 fungal species hypotheses at 1%dissimilarity threshold.
