Estimation of the Production Cost of Date Fruits of Cultivar Majhoul (<i>Phoenix dactylifera</i>L.) and Evaluation of the Moroccan Competitiveness towards the Major Exporting Regions in the World

The aim of the present study was to estimate the production cost of dates of cv. Majhoul (Phoenix dactylifera L.) as part of the Moroccan strategy to develop the date palm sector, and to compare it to that reported in the main exporting regions. Data were collected through surveys of farmers and farm owners carried out in the “Meski Boudnib” extension zone during 2018 and 2019, as well as from studies performed by some governmental organizations. The surveys were conducted on 30 modern and productive date palm farms, managed in monoculture and equipped with localized irrigation systems. All fixed and variable costs were calculated. It was found, through our calculations, that the subsidies from the Moroccan government reduce the average investment cost of a modern date palm farm by 56%. It was also shown that the production cost of one ton of date fruits of cv. Majhoul in the extension zone “Meski Boudnib” (Morocco) is estimated at about 6060 MAD (US$ 634.5), out of which 28% represents the labor cost and 23% represents mineral and organic fertilization costs. The findings of the present study revealed that the production cost of one ton of cv. Majhoul dates in “Meski Boudnib” is lower than those reported in the Coachella Valley (20,189 MAD/ton;US$ 2114) and the Jordan Valley (10,536 MAD/ton;US$ 1103).

Identification of Arabidopsis MYB56 as a Nove Substrate for CRL3BPM E3 Ligases

Controlled stability of proteins is a highly efficient mechanism to direct diverse processes in living cells. A key regulatory system for protein stability is given by the ubiquitin proteasome pathway, which uses E3 ligases to mark specific proteins for degradation. In this work, MYB56 is identified as a novel target of a CULLIN3 （CUL3）-based E3 ligase. Its stability depends on the presence of MATH-BTB/POZ （BPM） proteins, which function as substrate adaptors to the E3 ligase. Genetic studies have indicated that MYB56 is a negative regulator of flowering, while BPMs positively affect this developmental program. The interaction between BPMs and MYB56 occurs at the promoter of FLOWERING LOCUS T （FT）, a key regulator in initiating flowering in Arabidopsis, and results in instability of MYB56. Overall the work establishes MYB transcription factors as substrates of BPM proteins, and provides novel information on components that participate in controlling flowering time in plants.

Inventory of Host Plants and Parasitoids of the Fall Armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (JE Smith), in the Southern Agricultural Zone of Niger

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (JE Smith), is a polyphagous pest reported in sub-Saharan Africa since 2016 and has expanded rapidly in almost Africa. In Niger, Spodoptera frugiperda (JE Smith) is considered like a major pest of maize, to which it causes significant damage, in a context where proven control methods against this moth remain almost non-existent. The objective of the present study was to determine the economic importance of FAW through the damage caused to the different host plants and to identify the parasitoids of this caterpillar. The study was conducted in the southern agricultural zone of Niger, specifically in the regions of Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua and Zinder. FAW eggs and caterpillars were collected from six villages in each region and then incubated and reared in the entomology laboratory of INRAN in Maradi. The rate of infestation of the different crops by FAW was determined as well as the observation of the beneficiaries. The results obtained indicate the presence of FAW on millet with an attack rate varying from 45.7% to 68%, sorghum with 47.2% to 62.25% and sesame with 9.7%. This work also revealed an oophagous parasitoid, Telenomus remus with 138 ± 23 and larval parasitoids, Cotesia sp with 16 ± 1 maximum number of individuals emerged from the collected material. Also, it was identified the parasitoid Cotesia icipe with a rate of parasitism from 4.6% to 5.75%;the Charops ater whose rate of parasitism varies from 4.5% and 12.25% but for Chelonus insularis with 17.25% and Tachnidae with 53%. These very interesting results will constitute a basis for the development of biological control and a component of an agroecological management strategy of caterpillar.

The pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum hosts different facultative symbionts(FS)which provide it with various benefits,such as tolerance to heat or protection against natural enemies(e.g.,fungi,parasitoid wasps).Here,we investigated whether and how the presence of certain FS could affect phenoloxidase(PO)activity,a key component of insect innate immunity,under normal and stressed *** this,we used clones of *** of difTerent genetic backgrounds(LLOl,YR2 and T3-8V1)lacking FS or harboring one or two(Regiella insecticola,Hamiltonella defensa,Serratia symbiotica Rickettsiella viridis).Gene expression and proteomics analyses of the aphid hemolymph indicated that the two *** POs,PPOl and PP02,are expressed and translated into *** level of PPO genes expression as well as the amount of PPO proteins and phenoloxidase activity in the hemolymph depended on both the aphid genotype and FS *** particular,*** and ***,but not ***-h ***,caused a sharp decrease in PO activity by interfering with both transcription and *** microinjection of different types of stressors(yeast,Escherichia coli,latex beads)in the YR2 lines hosting different symbionts affected the survival rate of aphids and,in most cases,also decreased the expression of PPO genes after 24 *** amount and activity of PPO proteins varied according to the type of FS and stressor,without clear corresponding changes in gene *** data demonstrate that the presence of certain FS influences an important component of pea aphid immunity.

Energetics and thermodynamic stability of potential Fe (II) -hexa-aza-active sites for O_(2) reduction in PEM fuel cells

We present here a thermodynamic assessment of the stability behavior in acid environment at 298 and 353 K(80◦C)of two iron(II)hexa-aza-macrocyclic complexes and of an hexa-aza-iron-based site(Fe^(II)N_((4+2))/C)that should potentially be active for the oxygen reduction reaction in proton exchange membrane(PEM)fuel *** calculations of the equilibrium constant(K c)for the demetallation reaction indicate that the iron(II)-hexa-aza-macrocyclic complexes and Fe^(II)N_((4+2))/C are chemically stable in an acid medium at 298 and 353 *** with two other potential model sites(Fe^(II)N_((4+2))/C and Fe II N(2+2)/C)that were thought to be present in the same Fe-based catalysts,K c of Fe^(II)N_((4+2))/C is two to three orders of magnitude smaller at 353 K,and three to four orders of magnitude smaller at 298 K,than K c for Fe^(II)N_((4+2))/C or Fe II N(2+2)/C,revealing the great chemical stability of Fe^(II)N_((4+2))/*** this work,we discuss about a novel proposition that the two catalytic sites active in these Fe-based catalysts are Fe II N_(4)/C and Fe^(II)N_((4+2))/*** proposition is in agreement with the durability behavior of these catalysts in PEM fuel cells and also with their known physico-chemical *** origin of the fast and slow decay behaviors of the different sites,which are active at the Fe–N–C-based cathode of PEM fuel cells,is also discussed.

Background: Since the appearance of the COVID-19 pandemic, several drugs have also been proposed for the treatment of the COVID-19, but the therapeutic effectiveness of those drugs is not satisfactory. This situation has led to the search for therapeutic solutions based on recipes from traditional medicine. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical safety, efficacy and tolerability of the phytomedicine APIVIRINE in patients with non-severe COVID-19. Methods: Patients were included following defined criteria and followed on an outpatient basis until recovery in accordance with national guidelines for the management of single cases of COVID-19 in Burkina Faso. Vital signs, anthropometric parameters as well as electrocardiographic, hematological and biochemical examinations were measured on D4, D7, D14 and D21. Adverse events were recorded during maintenance. Results: The present study included 45 patients. The clinical signs present at inclusion were mostly cough (44.44%), asthenia (42.22%), headache (40%), and anosmia (35.55%). Dyspnoea and chest pain were less represented in 05 (11.11%) and 06 (13.33%) patients. Cough, dyspnoea, chest pain, fever, sore throat, headache, and nasal obstruction present at inclusion disappeared before Day 4 of treatment. Anosmia and asthenia disappeared before Day 7. At the inclusion visit (Day 1), CRP, WBC, and blood glucose were abnormal in 15 (33.33%), 13 (28.89%), and 11 (24.44%) patients respectively. In addition, 3 (6.66%) patients had elevated creatinine levels. Transaminases Alanine aminotransferase (AlaT) were elevated in 05 (11.11%) patients while Aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT) was elevated in 04 (8.89%) patients. After 4 days of treatment, the cure rate was 33.33% of patients and 48.89% after 7 days. The cumulative cure rate was 86.67% after 14 days of treatment.
