Correlations of β-catenin,Ki67 and Her-2/neu with gastric cancer

Objective:To study the clinical pathologic characteristics ofβ-catenin,Ki67 and Her-2/neu in gastric cancer and the correlation ofβ-catenin and Ki67 to the protein expression and gene conditions of Her-2/***:The protein expression ofβ-catenin,Ki67 and Her-2/Neu was detected by immunohistochemistry in 101 cases of gastric cancer and the gene conditions of Her-2/Neu by fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH).Results:The protein expression ofβ-catenin,Ki67 and Her-2/Neu had close relationship with the clinical pathologic characteristics of gastric ***β-catenin and Ki67 had obvious correlation to the differentiation,infiltration and lymphatic metastasis of the gastric cancer(P<0.05).The Ki67 had close relationship with the tumor-node-metastasis staging staging of gastric cancer(P<0.05).Her-2/Neu had close relationship with the differentiation and tumor-node-metastasis staging of gastric cancer(P<0.05)but had no relationship with the infiltration and lymphatic metastasis of the gastric cancer(P<0.05).The protein expression of Ki67 had significantly positive correlation to the protein expression and gene amplification conditions of Her-2/Neu(r=0.567,P<0.05 for protein;r=0.304,P<0.05 for gene).Conclusions:Combined detection ofβ-catenin,Ki67 and Her-2/Neu can be used as a reliable method to help the observation of biological behavior,diagnosis and prognosis of gastric cancer,and Ki67 can be used to serve the preliminary screening of Her-2/Neu gene state.

FALLOPIAN TUBE PROLAPSE FOLLOWING HYSTERECTOMY

Objective To investigate the clinical diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of fallopian tube prolapse (FTP) after *** A total of 7949 patients received hysterectomy from January 1983 to August 2005 in Peking Union Medical College hospital, and 9 cases (including 1 case from other hospital) of FTP after hysterectomy were involved during this *** of them were diagnosed according to pathological results and were followed *** symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of the FTP patients were analyzed *** The incidence of FTP after hysterectomy was 0.1% (8/7949), with the incidence of FTP after trans- abdominal hysterectomy being 0.06% (4/6229), after trans-vaginal hysterectomy being 0.5% (4/780), after laparoscopic assistant vaginal hysterectomy being 0 (0/940).There was no symptom in 3 *** pelvic examination revealed the typical prolapsed fimbrial end of a fallopian tube in 3 cases and the other 6 cases revealed red granulation *** of them were excised vaginally and *** results were proved by pathological *** recurrence was reported during *** FTP is a rare complication after *** prognosis is well after proper diagnosis and *** of accessories onto the pelvic wall and complete peritonealization at the time of hysterectomy are the most important methods to prevent FTP after hysterectomy.

Silencing the gene encoding C/EBP homologous protein lessens acute brain injury following ischemia/reperfusion

C/EBP homologous protein, an important transcription factor during endoplasmic reticulum stress, participates in cell apoptosis mediated by endoplasmic reticulum stress. Previous studies have shown that C/EBP homologous protein mediates nerve injury during Alzheimer＇s disease, subarachnoid hemorrhage and spinal cord trauma. In this study, we introduced C/EBP homologous protein short hairpin RNA into the brains of ischemia/reperfusion rat models via injection of lentiviral vector through the left lateral ventricle. Silencing C/EBP homologous protein gene expression significantly reduced cerebral infarction volume, decreased water content and tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-1β mRNA expression in brain tissues following infarction, diminished the number of TUNEL-positive cells in the infarct region, decreased caspase-3 protein content and increased Bcl-2 protein content. These results suggest that silencing C/EBP homologous protein lessens cell apoptosis and inflammatory reactions, thereby protecting nerves.

Fluvastatin protects against puromycin aminonucleoside-induced podocyte injury by inhibiting TRPC6

Effects of curcumin on hippocampal Bax and Bcl-2 expression and cognitive function of a rat model of Alzheimer's disease

We tested the effects of curcumin treatment on a rat model of Alzheimer＇s disease induced by beta-amlyoid （Aβ1-40） expression. We investigated alterations in the expression of the apoptosis-related genes Bax and Bcl-2 in the hippocampus, as well as changes in the spatial memory and cognitive function of the rats. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry results showed that Bax expression was remarkably decreased and Bcl-2 expression was increased in the rat Alzheimer＇s disease model after curcumin treatment. Morris water maze results showed that the average time of escape latency was shortened in the curcumin treated model rats. Our study shows that curcumin can significantly improve spatial learning and memory functions in rats with Aβ1-40-induced Alzheimer＇s disease by modulating Bax and Bcl-2 expression.

Background and Aims:Chronic kidney disease(CKD)usually occurs during the chronic infection of hepatitis B virus(HBV).However,the risk factors of CKD in an HBV population have not been completely *** present study aimed to investigate the risk factors of CKD in chronic HBV infection using a hospital based cross-sectional study in the northern area of ***:During January 2013 to December 2017,a total of 94 patients with CKD complicated by chronic HBV infection were consecutively enrolled in the study,as well as 548 age-and sex-matched hepatitis B patients without CKD who were enrolled as *** and multivariate regression analyses were used to determine the effects of each variable after adjusting for cofounding ***:Multivariate analysis showed that HBeAg-positive status(odds ratio[OR]=2.099,95%CI 1.128-3.907),dyslipidemia(OR:3.025,95%CI 1.747-5.239),and hypertension(OR:12.523,95%CI 6.283-24.958)were independently associ-ated with the incidence of CKD,while duration of HBV in-fection(≥240 months)(OR:0.401,95%CI 0.179-0.894),Log10 HBsAg(OR:0.514,95%CI 0.336-0.786),and coro-nary heart disease(OR:0.078,95%CI 0.008-0.768)were protective factors for the incidence of *** of HBV infection,Log10 HBsAg,HBeAg-positive status and dyslipidemia remained the risk factors for CKD after adjusting for diabetes mellitus,hypertension,and coronary heart ***:Duration of HBV infection,Log10 HB-sAg,HBeAg-positive status and dyslipidemia contributed to the incidence of CKD during chronic HBV infection in a Chinese population.

Nasal congestion caused by long-term retention of a nasal foreign body near the orbit:A case report

BACKGROUND Nasal trauma presents a risk of foreign body invasion into the nasal ***,in the early treatment stage of nasal trauma,patients and doctors are not always aware of possible foreign body invasion,resulting in delayed *** describe the case of an adult patient admitted to the hospital due to left nasal congestion accompanied by yellow,purulent,and bloody *** SUMMARY Consultation with the patient revealed a history of nasal trauma 30 years prior that did not receive thorough examinations and imaging during treatment,resulting in a glass fragment retained in the nasal cavity adjacent to the *** admission,computerized tomography(CT)confirmed the presence of the foreign body in the patient’s left nasal–maxillary *** nasal foreign body led to symptoms such as chronic sinusitis,nasal polyps,fungal infection,and deviated nasal *** foreign body was successfully removed by nasal endoscopy,polypectomy,sinus fungal removal,left middle turbinate conchoplasty,fenestration via the right inferior meatus,nasal endoscopic maxillary sinus cystectomy,and *** operation was successful and without any *** CT scans should be performed in addition to necessary debridement sutures to avoid possible foreign body invasion during nasal *** planning should be tailored to the patient’s specific *** surgical method should be carefully selected,and sufficient preparation should be undertaken before the surgery to avoid possible displacement of the nasal foreign body.

Comparison of iris-fixated foldable lens and scleralfixated foldable lens implantation in eyes with insufficient capsular support

AIM： To compare the outcomes of vision using two different intraocular lens（IOL） replacement techniques,iris-fixated foldable intraocular lens（IF-IOL） and scleralfixated foldable intraocular lens（SF-IOL） in patients with insufficient capsular ***： Total 63 eyes（62 patients） with insufficient posterior capsule support underwent replacement of IF-IOL or SF-IOL between January 2008 and August *** measures included changes in visual acuity, slit lamp examination, refractive indices and corneal curvatures. RESULTS： The mean improvement of uncorrected visual acuity（UCVA） was greater in IF-IOL group compared to the SF-IOL group（0.43 D±0.19 D vs 0.35 D±0.18 D, P 〈0.05）. Moreover, 12（38.71%） eyes in IF-IOL group and 4（12.50%） in SF-IOL group had a higher postoperative UCVA than preoperative best corrected visual acuity（BCVA） while 9（29.03%） eyes in IF-IOLgroup and 18（56.25%） in SF-IOL group had a lower postoperative UCVA than preoperative BCVA. The myopic mean manifest sphere and mean cylinder magnitude were lower in the IF-IOL group than that in the SF-IOL group（-0.47 D±0.58 D vs 0.50 D±0.43 D, P 〈0.01; 0.84 D ±0.53 D vs 1.23 D ±0.70 D, P 〈0.05）. No difference of corneal astigmatism and surgically induced astigmatism was found between the two groups. In addition, fewer complications were observed in IF-IOL eyes. CONCLUSION： IF-IOL implantation can give a significant improvement in vision with fewer complications than SF-IOL in patients with insufficient capsular support.
