Simpson-Golabi-Behmel syndrome (SGBS) is an X-linked recessive condition associated with pre-natal and postnatal overgrowth with visceral and skeletal anomalies. Abnormal airway anatomy may complicate the perioperative management of SGBS. However, there have been few reports regarding the anesthetic management of children with SGBS. We present the preoperative evalua-tion and intraoperative management of a 1.5-year-old child with SGBS undergoing plastic surgery for cleft palate. Sevoflurane-fentanyl anesthesia without a neuromuscular blocker was planned, due to the preoperative evaluation that airway management would be complicated by the macroglossia and short neck characteristic of SGBS. Fortunately, there was no difficulty in endotracheal intubation in the present patient due to careful planning of general anesthesia and meticulous airway management. Appropriate preoperative preparation for a difficult airway by the anesthe-siologist can ameliorate the difficulties inherent to the anesthetic management of patients with SGBS.

Prevalence and Pattern Occurrence of Supernumerary Teeth in the North-East Heilongjiang Population of China

Aims: The objective of the current research was to determine the prevalence of supernumerary teeth and investigate its characteristic and complications in the Chinese population from the North-East Heilongjiang region. Materials and Methods: It was a descriptive and retrospective study which used registered notes and panoramic radiographs of 12,984 patients who visited the Department of oral and maxillofacial Surgery in the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Jiamusi University, China between June 2011 to November 2015. Patients diagnosed with any syndrome or hereditary diseases were excluded from the study. The features of supernumerary teeth were noted and the data were analyzed using SPSS program, (version 20, Inc., Chicago, USA). The Chi-square test was used to determine the differences in the distribution of supernumerary teeth. It was tested at the 5% level of significance. Results: The prevalence was 5.2% and the most prevalent supernumerary teeth was incisor with 3.39% (n = 441). The supernumerary teeth were seen more in maxilla than mandible. The male to female ratio was 2.9:1. Specifically, higher prevalence of supernumerary teeth in male gender was statistically significant (p = 0.03). The supernumerary teeth mostly occurred in children of 5 - 10 years (62.3%), followed by young adolescent between 11 - 16 years (26.5%). Conclusion: The prevalence of supernumerary teeth was widely seen in children and young adolescent of Chinese population. The occurrence was mostly seen in maxilla than mandible and significantly higher in male than female.

Orthopedic applications of Fe have been hindered by the insufficient degradation *** with noble elements(such as Ag,Au,and Pt)to generate galvanic couples is a feasible ***,the direct preparation of homogenous alloys by mechanical alloying or metallurgy is difficult because of the differences in strength,density,and *** this study,Ag_(2)O was selected as the precursor phase for incorporation into Fe to achieve a homogeneous distribution of Ag,which was then reduced in situ to Ag via a mechanochemical reduction reaction during mechanical *** composite powders were printed as implants by selective laser melting,where a fast cooling rate contributed to the retention of the phase distribution of the obtained *** electrochemical tests showed that the Fe-Ag_(2)O implant had a high corrosion current density(21.88±0.12μA/cm^(2))and instantaneous corrosion rate(0.23±0.05 mm/year).Moreover,the implant exhibited a faster degradation rate(0.22 mm/year)than Fe(0.15 mm/year)and Fe-Ag(0.21 mm/year)after immersion for 28 *** acceleration mechanism of the implant could be attributed to the uniformly distributed Ag particles triggering many galvanic couples with the Fe grains,which was confirmed by the observation of the corrosion *** addition,the composite implants exhibited good biocompatibility and antibacterial properties.

Cellular strategies remain a crucial component in bone tissue engineering （BTE）. So far, the outcome of cell-based strategies from initial clinical trials is far behind compared to animal studies, which is suggested to be related to insufficient nutrient and oxygen supply inside the Ussue-engineered constructs. Cocultures, by introducing angiogenic cells into osteogenic cell cultures, might provide a solution for improving vascularization and hence increasing bone formation for cell-based constructs. So far, pre-clinical studies demonstrated that cocultures enhance vascularization and bone formation compared to monocultures. However, there has been no report on the application of cocultures in clinics. Therefore, this mini-review aims to provide an overview regarding （i） critical parameters in cocultures and the outcomes of cocultures compared to monocultures in the currently available pre-clinical studies using human mesenchymal stem cells implanted in orthotopic animal models; and （ii） the usage of monocultures in clinical application in BTE.

Objective:To determine the anticandidal activities of Salvia officinalis L.(***)essential oil against Candida albicans(***)and the inhibitory effects on the adhesion of *** to polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)resin ***:Disc diffusion method was first used to test the anticandidal activities of the *** *** oil against the reference strain(ATCC 90028)and 2 clinical strains of *** the minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimal lethal concentration(MLX)were determined by modified membrane *** adhesion of *** to PMMA resin surface was assessed after immersion with *** *** oil at various concentrations of 1XMIC.0.5XMIC and 0.25XMIC at room temperature for30 ***-way ANOVA was used to compare the Candida cell adhesion with the pretreatment agents and Tukey's test was used for multiple ***:*** *** oil exhibited anticandidal activity against all strains of *** with inhibition zone ranging from 40.5 mm to 19.5 *** MIC and MLC of the oil were determined as 2.780 g/L against all test *** to the effects on *** adhesion to PMMA resin surface,it was found that immersion in the essential oil at concentrations of 1XMIC(2.780 g/L).0.5XMIC(1.390 g/L)and0.25XMIC(0.695 g/L)for 30 min significantly reduced the adhesion of all 3 test strains to PMMA resin surface in a dose dependent manner(P<0.05).Conclusions:*** *** oil exhibited anticandidal activities against *** and had inhibitory effects on the adhesion of the cells to PMMA resin *** further testing and development,*** essential oil may be used as an antifungal denture cleanser to prevent candidal adhesion and thus reduce the risk of candida-associated denture stomatitis.

Nasolabial cysts are uncommonly diagnosed non-odontogenic soft tissue lesions occurring close to the nasal alar region of the face. Patients usually present with a slowly enlarging asymptomatic swelling. Diagnosis is usually made in the early stages because of the esthetic effects. Histologically, the lesion is lined with non-keratinized squamous epithelium or, more frequently, pseudostratified columnar epithelium with goblet cells. These cysts are most often diagnosed in the fourth decade of life. However, we report a case of nasolabial cyst in an 80-year-old woman, and discuss the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment with reference to the literature.
