Incidence and predisposing factors of anterior chamber gas bubbles during femtosecond laser flap creation

AIM:To investigate the incidence and the predisposing factors of anterior chamber(AC)gas bubbles during femtosecond laser(FS)flap creation for laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK).METHODS:All patients who underwent FS-LASIK surgery at CMU LASIK Center between January 2013 and May 2016 were retrospective *** and intraoperative data including keratometry,white-towhite(WTW)corneal diameter,flap parameters(diameter,thickness,hinge position,and tunnel length)and pulse energy were reviewed and compared between incident group and control *** determine the risk factors,univariate and multivariate conditional logistic regression were used;the eye was unit of ***:The incidence of AC gas bubbles was 1.6%(22 out of 1378 eyes).The median WTW in the AC bubbles group was 11.5 mm(range 11.1-12.1),which was significantly different from the control group(11.7 mm,range 10.5-12.8,P=0.021).The result of the median WTW minus the flap diameter in the AC bubbles group was 2.5 mm(range 2.1-3.2),which was statistically different to the control group(2.7 mm,range 1.5-3.8,P=0.008).The logistic regression analysis showed that the result of the WTW minus the flap diameter in the AC bubbles group had an adjusted odds ratio of 0.204(95%CI;0.056-0.747,P=0.016).CONCLUSION:Development of AC gas bubbles during FS flap creation is not an uncommon event in Asian eyes which typically have a small *** flap diameter when adjusted relatively to the WTW is a predisposing factor to the possibility of AC gas bubbles occurrence.

目的本研究旨在开发2型糖尿病患者直接支持和间接支持量表,用来测量糖尿病患者获得的直接支持和间接支持以及患者偏好,并评估该量表的信度和效度。方法本研究采用了2015年7月至9月进行的北京市通州区社区诊断项目的横断面调查数据进行分析,共纳入474例2型糖尿病患者。根据已有研究结果和专家建议,设计了关于从家人和朋友那里获得的直接支持和间接支持、包含11个条目的原始量表。原始量表中,5个条目(第1～5条)为间接支持,6个条目(第6～11条)为直接支持。每个条目有两个平行问题,一个用于衡量对支持的偏好(“偏好”部分),另一个用于衡量现实中获得的支持(“现实”部分)。应用探索性因子分析评估原始11条目量表的结构效度并确定最终版量表。应用验证性因子分析评估最终版量表的结构效度。使用Cronbach's α系数评估量表的内部一致性,进而用于评估最终版量表的信度。结果通过探索性因子分析确定最终版7条目量表,共2个因子,4个条目为间接支持,3个条目为直接支持。验证性因子分析显示7条目量表模型拟合良好,结构效度较好。7条目量表以及间接支持部分条目的内部一致性良好,Cronbach's α系数≥7.0。结论本研究显示7条目的2型糖尿病患者直接支持和间接支持量表具有较好的信度和效度。未来需要对该量表在不同环境和人群中的应用做进一步研究。

Determination of Central Corneal Thickness in Patients with Refractive Anomalies and Emmetropy

Aim: The purpose of this study was to compare measurements of CCT in emmetropia and patient with refractive anomalies. Methods: We represent a retrospective research which was conducted at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK). In this study were included 80 patients, divided into two groups: test and a control group. Mean age was (M = 25.90, DS = 7.16), men (N = 41% or 51.3%) and women (N = 39% or 48%). Results: Results show that there were no differences in the CCT, Hyperopic (M = 545.21 DS = 52.24), Myopic (M = 547.90 DS = 47.93) and Emmetropic (M = 550.75 DS = 41.29). After measuring of the longitudinal axis and analyzing the data by means of Anova test, it appeared to be a significant difference between the analyzed groups, Hyperopic (M = 21.99, DS = 1.27), Myopics (M = 23.21, DS = 1.24), Emmetropic (M = 22.36, DS = 0.81). Results also revealed that there is correlation between the CCT and IOP, where increase CCT decreases IOP and vice versa (r = -0.26, p = 0.01). Conclusion: The results have shown that CCT is thinner in myopic but does not show correlation with hypermetropic and emmetropic. While during the measurement of central corneal thickness and eye tension it is found that there is a negative correlation between them. Keratometry has a negative correlation with CCT. While there was no correlation between CCT and age. Given the role of CCT in interpreting IOP values, it is recommended to perform a systematic CCT measurement in routine clinical practice, which would assist in the diagnosis of ocular hypertension.

Both of the long-term fidelity and cell viability of three-dimensional(3D)-bioprinted constructs are essential to precise soft tissue ***,the shrinking/swelling behavior of hydrogels brings about inadequate long-term fidelity of constructs,and bioinks containing excessive polymer are detrimental to cell ***,we obtained a facile hydrogel by introducing 1%aldehyde hyaluronic acid(AHA)and 0.375%N-carboxymethyl chitosan(CMC),two polysaccharides with strong water absorption and water retention capacity,into classic gelatin(GEL,5%)–alginate(ALG,1%)*** GEL–ALG/CMC/AHA bioink possesses weak temperature dependence due to the Schiff base linkage of CMC/AHA and electrostatic interaction of CMC/*** fabricated integrated constructs through traditional printing at room temperature and in vivo simulation printing at *** printed cell-laden constructs can maintain subaqueous fidelity for 30 days after being reinforced by 3%calcium chloride for only 20 *** cytometry results showed that the cell viability was 91.3861.55%on day 29,and the cells in the proliferation plateau at this time still maintained their dynamic renewal with a DNA replication rate of 6.0661.24%.This work provides a convenient and practical bioink option for 3D bioprinting in precise soft tissue repair.

Myelin ultrastructure of sciatic nerve in rat experimental autoimmune neuritis model and its correlation with associated protein expression

Objective:To explore the relationship of peripheral nerve ultrastructure and its associated protein expression in experimental autoimmune neuritis(EAN).Methods:EAN was established in Lewis rats using an emulsified mixture of P0 peptide 180-199,Mycobacterium tuberculosis,and incomplete Freund’s *** given saline solution were used as a control *** nerve ultrastructure and immunofluorescence histopathology were measured at the neuromuscular severity peak on day 18 ***-specific protein markers were used for immunofluorescence histopathology staining to characterize sciatic nerve cells:CD3(T cell),Iba-1(microglia),S100(myelin),and neurofilament 200(axon).Results:The results showed that swelling of the myelin lamellae,vesicular disorganization,separation of the myelin lamellae,and an attenuation or disappearance ofthe axon were observed by transmission electron microscopy in the EAN ***3 and Iba-1 increased significantly in the structures characterized by separation or swelling of the myelin lamellae,and increased slightly in the structures characterized by vesicular of the myelin lamellae,S100 decreased in the structures characterized by vesicular disorganization or separation of the myelin *** neurofilament 200 decreased in the structures characterized by separation of the myelin ***,we found that Iba1 were positive in the myelin sheath,and overlapped with S100,which significantly indicated that Schwann cells may play as macrophage-like cells during the disease progression of *** findings may be a significant supplement for the knowledge of EAN model,and may offer a novel sight on the treatment of GBS.

TISSUE FACTOR PATHWAY INHIBITOR-2 AS A PROGNOSTIC FACTOR IN PANCREATIC CARCINOMA

Objective To establish the correlation between tissue factor pathway inhibitor 2 (TFPI-2) and the progression of pancreatic carcinoma(PC) after detecting the expression level of TFPI-2 in PC,and to evaluate the value of TFPI-2 as prognostic index in *** Expression levels of TFPI-2 in 10 normal and 25 cancerous/juxta-cancerous pancreas were testified with Western blot and RTPCR analyses *** density of TFPI-2 in each group was analyzed with HPIAS image analyzer and compared with *** correlation between the expression level of TFPI-2 and malignancy was tested with Spearman rank ***-specific survival curves were calculated according to Kaplan Meier algorithm,and log rank test was used to compare survival ***,Cox regression analysis was applied to determine the single contribution of each covariate on survival *** The expression level of TFPI-2 decreased along with progression of PC with significant difference among groups (P <0.05),and there was a significantly negative correlation between TFPI-2 protein and progression (r= -ft 816,P <0.001).Among the 13 studied variables,such as the expression level of TFPI-2 protein, tumor stage,portal vein resection,lymph node metastasis,only lymph node metastasis was a predictor of ***,when we analyzed the survival without considering lymph node metastasis,a stepwise Cox analysis showed that expression level of TFPI-2 protein and combined organ resection were significantly associated to *** The data showed that there was strongly correlation between the expression level of TFPI-2 and the progression and survival of PC,which suggested that TFPI-2 could be a newly prognostic factor and a novel approach for gene therapy for PC.

Short and long term corneal biomechanical analysis after overnight orthokeratology

AIM: To investigate the short and long term corneal biomechanical changes after overnight orthokeratology(OK) and compare them with those occurring in subjects not wearing contact ***: Retrospective case control study enrolling 54 subjects that were divided into three groups 18 subjects each: control group(CG), short term(15 nights) OK(STOK) group, and long term(more than 1 y of OK wear) OK(LTOK) group. Corneal biomechanics were characterized using the Cor Vis? ST system(Oculus), recording parameters such as time [first/second applanation time(AT1, AT2)], speed [velocity of corneal apex at the first/second applanation time(AV1, AV2)], and amplitude of deformation(AD1, AD2) in the first and second corneal flattening, corneal stiffness(SPA1), biomechanically corrected intraocular pressure(b IOP) and corneal(CBI) and tomographic biomechanical indices(TBI).RESULTS: Significantly lower AD1 and standard deviate on of Ambrosio’s relational average thickness related to the horizontal profile(ARTh) values were found in the OK groups compared to CG(P<0.05). Likewise, significantly higher values of CBI were found in STOK and LTOK groups compared to CG(P<0.01). No significant differences between groups were found in integrated radius index(P=0.24), strain stress index(P=0.22), tomographic biomechanical index(P=0.91) and corneal stif fness parameter(SPA1, P=0.97). Significant inverse correlations were found between corneal thickness and CBI in STOK(r=-0.90, P<0.01) and LTOK groups(r=-0.71, P<0.01).CONCLUSION: OK does not seem to alter significantly the corneal biomechanical properties, but special care should be taken when analyzing biomechanical parameters influenced by corneal thickness such as amplitude of deformation, ARTh or CBI, because they change significantly after treatment but mainly due to the reduction and pachymetric progression induced by the corneal molding secondary to OK treatment.

Value of serum procalcitonin content in severe acute pancreatitis for evaluating the infection degree and intestinal mucosal barrier function

Objective: To explore the value of serum procalcitonin content in severe acute pancreatitis for evaluating the infection degree and intestinal mucosal barrier function. Methods: A total of 68 patients with severe acute pancreatitis who were treated in our hospital between January 2015 and September 2017 were selected as pancreatitis group, and 50 healthy volunteers who underwent physical examination in this hospital during the same period were selected as normal control group. The differences in serum levels of PCT, inflammatory factors and intestinal mucosal barrier function indexes were compared between the two groups, and Pearson test was used to evaluate the correlation between PCT content and severe acute pancreatitis. Results: Serum PCT content of pancreatitis group was higher than that of control group;serum IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α contents were higher than those of control group;serum D-Lactate, DAO and Endotoxin contents were higher than those of control group. Pearson test showed that the serum PCT content of patients with severe acute pancreatitis was directly correlated with the degree of infection and intestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction. Conclusion:Serum PCT content abnormally increases in severe acute pancreatitis, and the specific content is directly correlated with the degree of infection and intestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction.
