The introduction of automatic intersection management (AIM) promises higher traffic flows and air quality by increasing the effective capacity of the intersection. Unfortunately, automatic control is only possible in a fully autonomous environment without legacy vehicles and vulnerable road users like cyclists and pedestrians. In this paper we introduce hybrid intersection management: a concept which makes it possible to gain the benefits from autonomous vehicles in the situation with mixed traffic. A new message protocol, the individual Space & Time message (iSPaT), is introduced to effectively send instructions to autonomous vehicles. The iSPaT message is also used to guide autonomous vehicles safely over the intersection in a “woven” manner. The development of hybrid intersection management can be started today, and shifts towards automatic control when the amount of autonomous vehicles increases.

For 193-nm lithography, water proves to be a suitable immersion fluid. ArF immersion offers the potential to extend conventional optical lithography to the 45-nm node and potentially to the 32-nm node. Additionally, with existing lenses, the immersion option offers the potential to increase the focus window with 50% and more, depending on actual NA and feature type. In this paper we discuss the results on imaging and overlay obtained with immersion. Using a 0.75 NA ArF projection lens,we have built a proto-type immersion scanner using TWINSCANTM technology. First experimental data on imaging demonstrated a large gain of depth of focus (DoF),while maintaining image contrast at high scan speed. For first pilot production with immersion, a 0.85 NA ArF lens will be used. The resolution capabilities of this system will support 65 nm node semiconductor devices with a DOF significantly larger than 0.5 um. Early imaging data of such a system confirms a significant increase in focus window.

We investigate the spatial characteristics of high-order harmonic radiation generated in argon and observe cross-like patterns in the far *** analytical model describing harmonics from an astigmatic driving beam reveals that these patterns result from the order and generation position-dependent divergence of *** small amounts of driving field astigmatism may result in cross-like patterns,coming from the superposition of individual harmonics with spatial profiles elongated in different *** correcting the aberrations using a deformable mirror,we show that fine-tuning the driving wavefront is essential for optimal spatial quality of the harmonics.

barley Fusarium head blight(FHb),caused by species of the Fusarium fungus,is a devastating disease that is reemerging worldwide in recent *** this study,a novel gene,HvORG4,was cloned from barley by using cDNA library and suppression subtractive hybridization(SSH) library *** SSH library and cDNA library were constructed from the Chinese barley cultivar Jing02-461(resistance to FHb) infected by Fusarium graminearum isolate *** the SSH analysis,more than 120 differentially expressed cDNAs were identified and *** of them showed high homology to the AtORG4 gene and was used as a probe to screen the cDNA library of *** positive clones were identified and one of them contained a full-length cDNA,which was named *** analysis showed that HvORG4 encoded a deduced basic protein of 197 amino *** blotting analysis showed that HvORG4 was constitutively expressed in root and stalk,not in leaf or spike,and strongly induced in barley spikelets in response to infection with *** isolate *** homology and expression profile suggest that the HvORG4 might function as a transcription factor,playing an important role in signal transduction pathway for defense against FHb in barley.

No association between brain size and male sexual behavior in the guppy

Animal behavior is remarkably variable at all taxonomic levels. Over the last decades, research on animal behavior has focused on understanding ultimate processes. Yet, it has progressively become more evident that to fully understand beha- vioral variation, ultimate explanations need to be complemented with proximate ones. In particular, the mechanisms generating variation in sexual behavior remain an open question. variation in aspects of brain morphology has been suggested as a plausible mechanism underlying this variation. However, our knowledge of this potential association is based almost exclusively on com- parative analyses. Experimental studies are needed to establish causality and bridge the gap between micro- and macroevolutio- nary mechanisms concerning the link between brain and sexual behavior. We used male guppies that had been artificially selected for large or small relative brain size to study this association. We paired males with females and scored the full known set of male and female sexual behaviors described in guppies. We found several previously demonstrated associations between male traits, male behavior and female behavior. Females responded more strongly towards males that courted more and males with more orange coloration. Also, larger males and males with less conspicuous coloration attempted more coerced copulations. However, courting, frequency of coerced copulation attempts, total intensity of sexual behavior, and female response did not differ between large- and small-brained males. Our data suggest that relative brain size is an unlikely mechanism underlying variation in sexual behavior of the male guppy. We discuss these findings in the context of the conditions under which relative brain size might affect male sexual behavior .
