Most of the orthodontic patients experience pain during treatment and this significantly influences their attitudes and the approach towards treatment. A number of factors that influence pain response include age, gender, personal pain threshold, mood and stress level of the person, cultural differences and types of orthodontic treatment. Pain is a often overlooked subject by orthodontists, it is nevertheless important to understand the source and mechanism of the pain that occurs during treatment, as well as the methods for managing and controlling this pain. This review attempts to overview the mechanism, duration and current management strategies of orthodontic treatment.

Aim To determine the effect of local simvastatin application on the mRNA expression level of transforming growth factor-β1 （TGF-β1）, bone morphogenetic protein-2 （BMP-2） and vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） in the tooth sockets of rat. Methodology Forty-eight male Wistar rats were randomly divided into experimental and control groups （n=24）. Polylactic acid/polyglycolic acid copolymer carriers, with or without simvastatin, were implanted into extraction sockets of right mandibular incisors. The expression of TGF-β1, BMP-2 and VEGF mRNA was determined by in situ hybridization in the tooth extraction socket at five days, one week, two weeks and four weeks after implantation. Results The fusiform stroma cells in the tooth extraction socket began to express TGF-β1, BMP-2 and VEGF mRNA in both experimental and control groups from one week after tooth extraction until the end of experiment. The expression of TGF-131 and BMP-2 mRNA in the experimental group was significantly up-regulated after one, two and four weeks, and expression of VEGF mRNA was significantly increased after one and two weeks compared with that in the control group. Conclusion The findings indicate that local administration of simvastatin can influence alveolar bone remodeling by regulating the expression of a school of growth factors which are crucial to osteogenesis in the tooth extraction socket.

Estrogen deficiency has been proposed as a risk factor for alveolar bone loss, but whether or not estrogen will influcence the bone rebuilting process during orthodontic tooth movement and what the mechanisms involved remain unclear. The paper aims to provide new information that may elucidate the modulatory effect of estrogen on the bone-resorbing cytokines RANKL and its anti-resorptive factor OPG secrected by HPLFs which are already force-stimulated. The expression of OPG mRNA is rising after mechanical loading either with or without stimulated by estrogen before. But HPDL cells exposured to estrogen for 24 h before loaded tend to express more OPG mRNA. Compared with the no-estrogen group, the inhibit trend of RANKL mRNA is much more apparent in with-estrogen group. Moreover, estrogen and mechanic force time-dependently increased OPG expression and attenuated the RANKL expression.

Objective To study the association between the expression of microRNA-155(miRNA-155)in peripheral blood CD4^+T lymphocytes and the level of semrn interferon-7(IFN-7)concentration and the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD).Methods After coronary angiography,252patients with suspected unstable angina pectoris (UAP)were divided into the UAP group (128patients with CAD confirmed by angiography)and the control group (124patients without CAD confirmed by angiography).Fresh peripheral blood was extracted 16-24h before coronary angiography,CD4^+T lymphocytes was tested using immunomagnetic beads,the expression ofmiRNA-155was tested using quantitative PCR and the expression of IFN-7was tested using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).According to the results of angiography,Gensini score of coronary artery lesions was ***,we also analysis the association between the level of miRNA-155in peripheral blood CD4^+T lymphocytes,the level of serum IFN-γand Gensini score of coronary *** The levels ofmiRNA-155(0.49±0.08vs.0.23±0.09)and IFN-7(227.58±26.01vs.141.23±17.89)in the UAP group were significantly higher than that of the control group,the difference was statistically *** level of miRNA-155and IFN-γwere positively correlated with Gensini score of CAD (r =0.534,r =0.713,respectively,all P <0.05).The level of miRNA-155was positively correlated with the level of IFN-γ,(r =0.686,P <0.05).Conclusions The level of miRNA-155in peripheral blood CD4^+T lymphocytes and the level of IFN-γ are closely correlated with the severity of CAD.

Background： Chronic intermittent hypoxia is the most remarkable feature of obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome and it can induce the change of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α （H IF-1α） expression and contractile properties in the genioglossus. To clarify the role of HIF-lot in contractile properties of the genioglossus, this study generated and compared high-throughput RNA-sequencing data from genioglossus between HIF-1α conditional knockout （KO） mice and littermate wild-type （WT） mice. Methods： KO mice were generated with cre-loxP strategy. Gene expression profile analysis was performed using gene enrichment analysis. Gene ontology （GO） and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes （KEGG） pathway analyses of differently expressed messenger RNAs were performed to identify the related pathways and biological lhnctions. Six differentially expressed genes （DEGs） were validated by qualitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Results： A total of 142 （77 upregulated and 65 downregulated） transcripts were found to exhibit statistically significant difference between the HIF-la-KO and WT mice. GO and KEGG analyses indicated that DEGs included genes involved in ＂skeletal muscle cell differentiation,＂＂muscle organ development,＂＂glucose metabolic process,＂＂glycogen biosynthetic and metabolic process,＂ etc. Conclusion： This study might provide evidence that H IF-lot affects the expression of multiple genes involved in the myogenesis, muscle developrnent, and carbohydrate metabolism through transcriptome analysis in conditional HIE-1α-KO mice.

Objective:To evaluate the personality and psychosocial status of adult malocclusion patients through the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ) and the Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90). Methods:The EPQ and the SCL-90 were administered to 348 adult respondents with Angle’s ClassⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲmalocclusion and normal *** and psychosocial traits were analyzed and compared among the ***:Patients in Angle’s ClassⅠ,D andⅢgroups scored lower on the EPQ-E and higher on the EPQ-N than those in the normal occlusion group, whereas patients in the Class II group scored higher on the *** mean scores of ClassⅠ,ⅡandⅢgroups were significantly higher than those of the normal group on somatization, obsessive-compulsiveness,interpersonal sensitivity,depression,anxiety,and paranoid ideation. All SCL-90 scores were significantly positively correlated with *** and neuroticism scores of female respondents were higher than those of male *** impact of education was greatest on the EPQ-P and the EPQ-E of adult personality,whereas the impact of deformity was greatest on the EPQ-N of adult ***:Personality and psychosocial status show differences in adult patients with ClassⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲmalocclusion and normal occlusion and can be influenced by gender,deformity,age and education.

Bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion is one of the most prevalent malocclusion in Asian ***, orthodontic treatment often involves the extraction of four first premolars and demands the least amount of anchorage loss, therefore headgear used to be an unavoid- able fate of these patients. Nowadays, along with the development of implant anchorage, more and more patients have benefited from the implant-aided orthodontic treatment, even escaped from orthognathic surgery. However, for extremely severe cases, orthodontists seem to still have to face the limitation of orthodontic treatment and turn to surgeons for cooperation. In this case, we will see how dramatic changes happened on an adult patient with severe bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion malocclusion after the orthodontic treatment with microscrew implants as the temporary skeletal anchorage with the patient＇s written informed consent,
