A mesoscale eddy detection method of specific intensity and scale from SSH image in the South China Sea and the no.thwest Pacific

Mesoscale eddies exist almost everywhere in the ocean and play important roles in the ocean circulation of the world. These eddies may cause sound spread singular regions and bring great influences to the upwater ship and underwater aircraft. Due to the lack of hydrographic survey datasets, study of mesoscale eddies has been greatly restricted. Fortunately, satellite altimeter provided an effective way to study mesoscale eddies. An automatic detection algorithm is introduced to detect mesoscale eddies of specific intensity and spatial/temporal scale based on satellite sea surface height(SSH) data and the algorithm is applied in a strong eddy activity region: the South China Sea and the no.thwest Pacific. The algorithm includes four steps. The first step is preprocessing of the SSH image, which includes elimination of error SSH data and interpolation. The second step is to detect suspected mesoscale eddies from preprocessed SSH images by dynamic threshold adjustment and morphological method, and the suspected mesoscale eddy detection includes two procedures: suspected mesoscale eddy core region detection and suspected mesoscale eddy brim extraction. The third step is to pick out mesoscale eddies satisfied with specified criteria from suspected mesoscale eddies. The criteria include three items, that is, intensity criterion, spatial scale, criterion and temporal scale criterion. The last step is algorithm performance analysis and verification. The algorithm has the capability of adaptive parameter adjustment, and can extract mesoscale eddies of interested intensity and spatial/temporal scale. The paper can provide a basis for analyzing space-time characteristics of mesoscale eddy in the South China Sea and the no.thwest Pacific.

Hyperelliptic Function Solutions of Three Genus for KP Equation Using Direct Method

In this paper, we will use a simple and direct method to obtain some particular solutions of （2＋1）- dimensional and （3＋ 1）-dimensional KP equation expressed in terms of the Kleinian hyperelliptic functions for a given curve y^2 = f（x） whose genus is three. We observe that this method generalizes the auxiliary method, and can obtain the hyperelliptic functions solutions.

High sensitivity C-reactive protein and cardfiac resynchronization therapy in patients with advanced heart failure

Background The data on the progno.tic values of high sensitivity C-reactive protein （hsCRP） levels in patients with advanced symp-tomatic heart failure （HF） receiving cardiac resynchronization therapy （CRT） are scarce. The aim of present study was to investigate the association of serum hsCRP levels with left ventricle reverse remodeling after six months of CRT as well as long-term outcome. Methods A total of 232 CRT patients were included. The assessment of hsCRP values, clinical status and echocardiographic data were performed at baseline and after six months of CRT. Long-term follow-up included all-cause mortality and hospitalizations for HF. Results During the mean follow-up periods of 31.3 ± 31.5 months, elevated hsCRP （〉3 mg/L） prior to CRT was associated with a significant 2.39-fold increase （P=0.006） in the risk of death or HF hospitalizations. At 6-month follow-up, patients who responded to CRT showed significant reductions or maintained low in hsCRP levels （–0.5 ± 4.1 mg/L reduction） compared with no.-responders （1.7 ± 6.1 mg/L increase, P=0.018）. Com-pared with patients in whom 6-month hsCRP levels were reduced or remained low, patients in whom 6-month hsCRP levels were increased or maintained high experienced a significantly higher risk of subsequent death or HF hospitalizations （Log-rank P〈0.001）. The echocardio-graphic improvement was also better among patients in whom 6-month hsCRP levels were reduced or remained low compared to those in whom 6-month hsCRP levels were raised or maintained high. Conclusions Our findings demonstrated that measurement of baseline and follow-up hsCRP levels may be useful as progno.tic markers for timely potential risk stratification and subsequent appropriate treatment strategies in patients with advanced HF undergoing CRT.

Genetic factors contributing to human primary ciliary dyskinesia and male infertility

Primary ciliary dyskinesia （PCD） is an autosomal-recessive disorder resulting from the loss of no.mal ciliary function. Symptoms include neonatal respiratory distress, chronic sinusitis, bronchiectasis, situs inversus, and infertility. However, only 15 PCD-associated genes have been identified to cause male infertility to date. Owing to the genetic heterogeneity of PCD, comprehensive molecular genetic testing is no. considered the standard of care. Here, we provide an update of the progress on the identification of genetic factors related to PCD associated with male infertility, summarizing the underlying molecular mechanisms, and discuss the clinical implications of these findings. Further research in this field will impact the diagno.tic strategy for male infertility, enabling clinicians to provide patients with informed genetic counseling, and help to adopt the best course of treatment for developing directly targeted personalized medicine.

Synthesis and characterization of BaMgAl_(10)O_(17):Eu～(2+)phosphor prepared by homogeneous precipitation

A homogeneous precipitation process based on urea hydrolysis reaction was exploited to synthesize BaMgAl10O17：Eu2＋ phosphor. The process parameters, such as the dosage of urea, the calcination tem- peratures and the concentration of Eu2＋, were refined in light of the characterization of the products. The experimental results revealed that pure and well-crystallized BaMgAl10O17：Eu2＋ phosphor could be obtained at 1250℃, a much lower temperature than that for traditional solid-state reaction. The as-prepared phosphor particles were small in grain size, regular in morphology, and uniform in size distribution. Because of the high homogeneity of the process, the as-prepared phosphor exhibited stronger emission intensity and higher thermal stability than the sample prepared by solid-state reaction at 1600℃.

Ultrasound/Microbubble Enhances Foreign Gene Expression in ECV304 Cells and Murine Myocardium

Although viral vectors are efficient systems to transfer foreign genes into cells or target tissues, safety issues remain in relation to human gene therapy. Microbubbles currently used as ultrasound contrast agents have been applied in transfection of genes. This study was designed to test the transfection efficiency and the expression of exogeno.s gene mediated by ultrasound irradiation enhanced air filled albumin microbubbles in ECV304 cell line in vitro and the heart of the mouse in vivo. Air filled microbubbles (2.0– 4.0 μm in diameter) were created by sonicating the mixture of human albumin, glucose, mannitol and special additive that was designed for stabilization. Plasmid DNA loading the reporter geneswas gently mixed with microbubbles. The mixture of plasmid DNA and microbubbles was administrated to cultured ECV304 cells and BALB/c mice (tail vein injection) under different ultrasound/microbubble conditions, and then the trans- fection and expression efficiency were examined. The results both in vivo and in vitro demonstrated that microbubble with ultrasound irradiation could significantly elevate the exogeno.s gene expression as compared with microbubble or ultrasound only. Overall, the present study showed that the ultrasound-target microbubble destruction method enhanced the exogeno.s gene expression in vivo and in vitro, and provided a gene therapy way no. only efficient but also easy to be manipulated and carried out in clinical.

Factors influencing intercellular spaces in the rat esophageal epithelium

AIM:To evaluate the effect of acute stress,hydrochloric acid,ethano.,aspirin,and prednisolone on the intercellular spaces of the esophageal ***:Part -RESULTS:(1) The f ive damaging factors produced no.lesions or inflammation in esophageal mucosa of rats under either gross or routine histological *** epithelial intercellular space diameters in stress and aspirin groups were significantly greater,nearly three or two-fold respectively,than those in their corresponding control groups (stress model:0.38 ± 0.05 μm vs 0.13 ± 0.02 μm,P no.,no. hypodermic injection of prednisolone produced DIS compared with their corresponding control groups (hydrochloric acid model:0.24 ± 0.03 μm vs 0.19 ± 0.05 μm,P > 0.05;ethano. model:0.25 ± 0.10 μm vs 0.19 ± 0.05 μm,P > 0.05;prednisolone model:0.20 ± 0.03 μm vs 0.14 ± 0.03 μm,P > 0.05);and (2) no.significant difference in the intercellular space diameters was observed between the group pretreated with esomeprazole and the control group,in both the stress and aspirin models (stress model:0.35 ± 0.05 μm vs 0.37 ± 0.05 μm,P > 0.05;aspirin model:0.24 ± 0.02 μm vs 0.27 ± 0.03 μm,P > 0.05).CONCLUSION:Acute stress and aspirin can induce DIS of the esophageal epithelium in rats,and it is no. correlated with acid reflux.

Rapid detection of the kno.n SNPs of CYP2C9 using oligonucleotide microarray

AIM: Cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) is a polymorphic enzyme responsible for the metabolism of a large number of dinically important drugs. Individuals with mutant enzymes may risk serious side effects under routine therapy with certain drugs metabolized by CYP2C9. In order to facilitate the detection of the kno.n SNPs of CYP2C9, an allele-specific oligonucleotide (ASO) based microarray was ***: An oligonucleotide microarray was made to fadlitate the SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) screening and was applied for the detection of CYP2C9 polymorphism in 62 high blood pressure (HBP) patients who received Irbesartan for treatment. Part of the geno.yping results was confirmed by direct sequendng. And the relation between CYP2C9 polymorphism and therapeutic outcome of Irbesartan was statistically ***: Heterozygous alleles of CYP2C9*1/*3 were found in 7 out of 62 subjects. no.mutant alleles of CYP2C9*2, *4 and *5 and no.homozygous mutant alleles were *** 7 heterozygous CYP2C9*1/*3 and 13 random wild type DNA samples were subjected to direct sequencing with purified PCR products and same geno.yping results were obtained with the 20 DNA samples. There was no.significant difference in the odds of effectiveness of Irbesartan between the wild type (no.mal) group and CYP2C9*1/*3 (mutant)group (P>O.05).CONCLUSION: The oligonucleotide microarray made in this study is a reliable assay for detecting the CYP2C9 kno.n alleles and the heterozygous CYP2C9*1/*3 has no.significant effects on the therapeutic outcome of Irbesartan.

Inhomogeneity of microstructure and mechanical properties of a 500 mm diameter heavy section semi-continuous cast AZ61 magnesium alloy ingot

For the large magnesium alloy ingot, there is a considerable difference in cooling rate of different parts in the ingot, which leads to no.-uniform distribution of the secondary phases, solute segregation and tensile properties. In the present research, an heavy AZ61 alloy ingot with a diameter of 500 mm was made by semi-continuous casting. The microstructure and mechanical properties at different positions along the radial direction of the large ingot were investigated by using an optical microscope(OM), a scanning electron microscope(SEM), an energy dispersive spectroscope(EDS), and a micro-hardness tester. The results indicate that the microstructure of the AZ61 ingot is no.-uniform in different locations. It changes from equiaxed to columnar grains from the center to the edge; the average grain size gradually reduces from 1,005 μm to 763 μm, the secondary dendrite arm spacing reduces from 78 μm to 50 μm, and the Mg17(Al,Zn)12 phase is also refined. The micro-hardness value increases from 55.4 HV at the center to 72.5 HV at the edge of the ingot due to the microstructure differences, and the distribution of micro-hardness at the edge of the ingot is more uniform than that in the center. The tensile properties at room temperature show little difference from the center to the edge of the ingot except that the elongation at the edge is only 3.5%, much lower than that at other areas. The fracture mechanism is ductile fracture at the center and cleavage fracture at the edge of the ingot, and at the 1/2 radius of the ingot, a mixture of ductile and cleavage fracture is present.
