To enhance the fruity flavour of pear wine by coculturing Saccharomyces yeasts with non-Saccharomyces,the coculture patterns were optimised based on the effect of different strains on the physicochemical properties and metabolites,and the interaction relationship in the coculture fermentation was also *** results showed that total volatiles of *** were higher than those of ***,especially esters,acids and *** contents of total volatiles and esters were enhanced by sequential *** effect of coculturing *** Y4 with *** Y7 or Pichia *** better than that of coculturing with them with *** Y1,enhancing the contents of phenylethanol,acetate and ethyl ***,the esters(mainly ethyl esters)content was increased by 53.30%,and the acids content was decreased by 32.82%when *** Y4 was cocultured with *** Y7 by sequential inoculation compared with *** Y4 single *** coculture increased theα-diversity of the fungal community and changed the correlation network between the *** analysis showed that Torulaspora was closely correlated to ethyl hexanoate,ethyl decanoate and ethyl 9-decenoate,while Saccharomyces was associated with hexanoic acid and octanoic ***2 prediction revealed that Torulaspora may utilize the fatty acids produced by Saccharomyces to synthesize fatty acid ethyl esters.

Important Aspects of Controlling Sulfur Dioxide in brewing

This paper discusses the relative importance of sulfur dioxide (SO2) to brewers because there are implications to beer quality, consumer health, and legal requirements. Overviews are provided on what SO2 is, its sources in beer, what quality parameters are impacted by SO2,what health implications are known, and labeling requirements. An overview of methodologies for measuring SO2 is given to educate brewers on the advantages and disadvantages of different methods with the aim to enlighten brewers to adopt a method that can be incorporated into their quality assurance program. Finally, an overview of published papers is summarized, along with general trouble-shooting guidelines for brewers to further their knowledge on controlling this critical yeast metabolite in their beers.

High-sensitivity phase imaging eddy current magneto-optical system for carbon fiber reinforced polymers detection

This paper proposed a high-sensitivity phase imaging eddy current magneto-optical (PI-ECMO) system for carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) defect detection. In contrast to other eddy current-based detection systems, the proposed system employs a fixed position excitation coil while enabling the detection point to move within the detection region. This configuration effectively mitigates the interference caused by the lift-off effect, which is commonly observed in systems with moving excitation coils. Correspondingly, the relationship between the defect characteristics (orientation and position) and the surface vertical magnetic field distribution (amplitude and phase) is studied in detail by theoretical analysis and numerical simulations. Experiments conducted on woven CFRP plates demonstrate that the designed PI-ECMO system is capable of effectively detecting both surface and internal cracks, as well as impact defects. The excitation current is significantly reduced compared with traditional eddy current magneto-optical (ECMO) systems.

Premature yeast flocculation(PYF)during beer fermentation is an undesired event by which yeast flocculate too early and heavily before the wort nutrition is *** PYF can be a major financial detriment to brewers,the conditions that trigger it and the chemical composition of PYF are poorly *** chromatography-mass spectrometry results from this study indicated that purified malt PYF factor consisted of numerous polysaccharides;however,no protein was *** concentrations of PYF promoted further yeast flocculation,which in turn decreased the rate of fermentation and increased acetaldehyde content of the *** factors were found to be derived primarily from malt husks and factors such as microbial content of the water used for germination,mixing malts with different PYF values,and presence of tannic acid were all found to influence the rate of yeast *** from this study may be beneficial in developing PYF prevention and control measures that can be applied to future brewing strategies.

Antithrombotic Effects of Different Strains of Lactic Acid Bacteria

Objective: The aim of the present study was to assess the antithrombotic properties of different strains of orally available antithrombotic lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Research Methods & Procedures: Antithrombotic activity, antiplatelet reactivity and/or thrombolytic activity, were measured in seven strains of LAB and LAB cell-free-extracts (LAB filtrates) using the shear-induced platelet reactivity/thrombolytic activity, The Global Thrombosis Test (GTT), with non-anticoagulated rat blood in vitro. Subsequently, the most potent antithrombotic strains identified in vitro were assessed in vivo after oral administration in mouse carotid arteries using a helium-neon laser-induced thrombosis model. Result: Five strains out of seven LAB (Lactobacillus paracasei KW 3100, Lactobacillus fermentum NBRC 3961, Lactobacillus pentosus JCM 8333, Leuconostoc oeni Elios 1, Pediococcus pentosaceus NK-2) promoted significant endogenous thrombolysis in vitro. In addition, one strain (Lactobacillus fermentum NBRC 3961) significantly inhibited shear-induced platelet re-activity. Three antithrombotic strains, Lactobacillus fermentum NBRC 3961, Leuconostoc oeni Elios 1, and Lactobacillus pentosus JCM 8333, were further assessed in vivo. The results demonstrated that filtrates, and the cells per se of these LAB, modulated antiplatelet activity and/or thrombolytic activity, and that the antithrombotic mechanisms were mainly influenced by protein content (60% - 70% of dry matter). Conclusion: The findings suggested that some strains of lactic acid bacteria could usefully provide the basis for the production of oral antithrombotic probiotics.

Design of TRIP Steel With High Welding and Galvanizing Performance in Light of Thermodynamics and Kinetics

A new type of transformation induced plasticity （TRIP） steel with not only high strength and high ductility but also superior welding and galvanizing properties was designed and developed recently. Low carbon and low silicon content were preliminarily selected with the aim of meeting the requirements of superior quality in both welding and galvanizing. Phosphorus was chosen as one of the alloying elements, because it could reduce carbon activity in cementite and increase the stability of austenite. In addition, the possibility of phosphorus segregating at grain boundary was also discussed by thermodynamics as well as kinetics. Phase diagram was estimated at high temperature and the composition of the steel was then selected in the hyperperitectic range to avoid problems, which might occur in sheet steel continuous casting. Phase diagram in the *** temperature was estimated for the steel to obtain the starting temperature of fast cooling. For understanding the minimum rate of fast cooling, pearlite growth kinetics was calculated with self-developed diffusion coefficients of elements in grain boundary. Overaging temperature was determined through the calculation of To temperature by both equilibrium and para-equilibrium assumptions, which was different from the current determination, which is only based on an equilibrium estimation.

The plant steroid hormones, brassinosteroids （BRs）, and their precursors, phytosterols, play major roles in plant growth, development, and stress tolerance. Here, we review the impressive progress made during recent years in elucidating the components of the sterol and BR metabolic and signaling pathways, and in understanding their mecha- nism of action in both model plants and crops, such as Arabidopsis and rice. We also discuss emerging insights into the regulations of these pathways, their interactions with other hormonal pathways and multiple environmental signals, and the putative nature of sterols as signaling molecules.

Safety and efficacy of pemetrexed in gynecologic cancers: A systematic literature review

Gynecologic cancers represent a significant problem worldwide. Advanced, recurrent gynecologic cancers are often refractory to chemo-therapy, so new treatment regimens are needed. Pemetrexed is a third-generation, multi-targeted antifolate that has been approved for use in non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma in both the United States and European Union. This paper reviews the safety and efficacy of pemetrexed in gynecologic cancers, which were defined as maligancies of the ovaries (including fallopian tubes and primary peritoneum), uterine endometrium, and uterine cervix. A search of English-language literature via PubMed and American Society of Clinical Oncology proceedings was performed from database inception to June 2012. Thirteen clinical trials involving the use of pemetrexed (alone and in combination with other agents) in gynecologic cancers were identified. These were phase I and phase II trials;there were 9 studies in ovarian cancer, 1 study in endometrial cancer, and 3 studies in cervical cancer. Pemetrexed with vitamin supplementation was tolerable in all clinical trials and had activity in ovarian and cervical cancers. Therefore, it may be reasonable to further explore the use of pemetrexed in ovarian and cervical malignancies.

Foxtail millet(Setaria italica),which was domesticatedfromthewild speciesgreenfoxtail(Setaria viridis),isa richsource of phytonutrientsfor *** evaluate how breeding changed themetabolome offoxtail millet grains,we generated and analyzed the datasets encompassing the genomes,transcriptomes,metabolomes,and anti-inflammatory indices from 398 foxtail millet *** identified hundreds of common variants that influence numerous secondary *** observed tremendous differences in natural variations of the metabolites and their underlying genetic architectures between distinct sub-groups of foxtail ***,we found that the selection of the gene alleles associated with yellow grains led to altered profiles of metabolites such as carotenoids and endogenous *** CRiSPR-mediated genome editing wevalidated the function of PHYTOENE SYNTHASE1(PSY1)gene in affecting milletgrain colorand ***,our in vitro cell inflammation assays showed that 83 metabolites in millet grains have anti-inflammatory *** together,ourmulti-omics study illustrates how the breeding history of foxtail millet has shaped its metabolite *** datasets we generated in this study also provide important resources for further understanding how millet grain quality is affected by different metabolites,laying the foundations for future millet genetic research and metabolome-assisted improvement.
