The status of coinfection during the national outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)Omicron BA.5.2 or BF.7 in China in the winter of 2022,which is suspected to contribute substantially to the overloaded severe cases,needs to be *** analyzed the coinfection status of 385 severe patients infected with the Omicron variant in Guangzhou using metagenomic *** found that 317(82.3%)patients were coinfected with at least one additional pathogen(s),including bacteria(58.7%),fungi(27.1%)and viruses(73.5%).Pseudomonas aeruginosa(***)(24.2%),Staphylococcus aureus(***)(14.0%),andKlebsiella pneumoniae(***)(13.4%)ranked as the top three coinfected *** fumigatus(***)(39.5%),Pneumocystis jirovecii(***)(24.4%)andCanidia albicans(***)(22.1%)were the top three coinfected ***-Barr virus(EBV)(63.1%),Human herpesvirus 7(HHV-7)(34.8%),and Herpes simplex virus 1(HSV-1)(32.6%)were the top three coinfected *** note,the detection of multiple coinfections of potential pathogenic bacteria,fungi,and viruses,despite lacking consistent patterns,highlighted a complicated synergistic contribution to disease *** study presents the most comprehensive spectrum of bacterial,fungal,and viral coinfections in Omicron-associated severe coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),implying that the coinfection of conditional pathogens might synergistically deteriorate the Omicron infection outcomes.

In response to problems of poor sampling quality,low sensitivity,and high demand for medical personnel regarding the current severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)oropharyngeal(OP)swab sampling used in China,we aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance and acceptability of saliva-based nucleic acid amplification tests(NAATs)in *** results showed that,using nasopharyngeal(NP)swab results as the gold standard,the overall sensitivities for saliva specimens and OP swabs were 93.3%and 85.0%,the specificities were 92.6%and 93.8%,*** results of an acceptability survey showed that the scores for saliva,OP,and NP samples were 9.46±1.69,8.11±2.42,and 4.58±3.82 out of 10,respectively,with significant differences among the three groups(P<0.05).With higher sensitivity,comparable specificity,and strong public preference,saliva-based NAATs represent a convenient and effective method for detecting SARS-CoV-2 in future epidemics.

Dear Editor,Unlike previous outbreaks of the mpox(previously known as monkeypox),which were localized in Africa and resulted in small numbers of infections due to limited human-to-human transmission,the current outbreak beginning in May 2022,has spread rapidly primarily through human-to-human transmission in non-endemic countries(Gong et al.,2022).As of 27 Sep 2023,115 countries and regions have reported cases of mpox to the World Health Organization(WHO),bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 90,618 including 125 *** the number of new cases has decreased in most WHO regions in the second half of 2022,the curves reveal a long outbreak tail in different subregions of the *** worrying,106 mpox cases were reported in the mainland of China in June 2023.

A Heterozygous Phospholamban Variant(p.R14del)Leads to Left Ventricular Involvement and Heart Failure Phenotypes in Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy

This study aimed to determine the prevalence and clinical features of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy(ARVC)caused by pathogenic mutations in the Phospholamban(PLN)*** study included 170 patients who had a confrmed diagnosis of ARVC and underwent PLN genetic screening using next-generation *** fndings of this study provide valuable insights into the association between PLN mutations and ARVC,which can aid in the development of more efective diagnostic and treatment strategies for ARVC *** of the patients evaluated,six had a rare pathogenic mutation in PLN with the same p.R14del *** screening revealed that heterozygous carriers of p.R14del exhibited a defnite ARVC *** clinical studies,individuals with the p.R14del mutation experienced a similar rate of malignant arrhythmia events as those with classic desmosome *** adjusting for covariates,individuals with PLN mutations had a two point one seven times greater likelihood of experiencing transplant-related risks compared to those who did not possess PLN mutations(95%CI 1.08–6.82,p=0.035).The accumulation of left ventricular fat and fbers is a pathological marker for ARVC patients with p.R14del *** a cohort of 170 Chinese ARVC patients,three point fve percent of probands had the PLN pathogenic variant(p.R14del)and all were *** data shows that PLN-related ARVC patients are at high risk for ventricular arrhythmias and heart failure,which requires clinical diferentiation from classic ***,carrying the p.R14del mutation can be an independent prognostic risk factor in ARVC patients.

BACKGROUND Cognitive dysfunction is the main manifestation of central *** cognitive impairments tend to be overlooked in patients with diabetes mellitus(DM),there is a growing body of evidence linking DM to cognitive *** is closely related to neurological abnormalities,while often disregarded in clinical *** in cerebral neurotransmitter levels are associated with a variety of neurological abnormalities and may be closely related to blood glucose control in patients with type 2 DM(T2DM).AIM To evaluate the concentrations of cerebral neurotransmitters in T2DM patients exhibiting different hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c)*** A total of 130 T2DM patients were enrolled at the Department of Endocrinology of Shanghai East *** participants were divided into four groups according to their HbA1c levels using the interquartile method,namely Q1(<7.875%),Q2(7.875%-9.050%),Q3(9.050%-11.200%)and Q4(≥11.200%).Clinical data were collected and measured,including age,height,weight,neck/waist/hip circumferences,blood pressure,comorbidities,duration of DM,and biochemical ***,neurotransmitters in the left hippocampus and left brainstem area were detected by proton magnetic resonance *** The HbA1c level was significantly associated with urinary microalbumin(mALB),triglyceride,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR),and beta cell function(HOMA-β),N-acetylaspartate/creatine(NAA/Cr),and NAA/choline(NAA/Cho).Spearman correlation analysis showed that mALB,LDL-C,HOMA-IR and NAA/Cr in the left brainstem area were positively correlated with the level of HbA1c(P<0.05),whereas HOMA-βwas negatively correlated with the HbA1c level(P<0.05).Ordered multiple logistic regression analysis showed that NAA/Cho[Odds ratio(OR):1.608,95%confidence interval(95%CI):1.004-2.578,P<0.05],LDL-C(OR:1.627,95%CI:1.119-2.370,P<0.05),and HOMA-IR(OR:1.107,95%CI:1.031-
