BACKGROUND Echinococcosis is prevalent in 9 provinces in Western and Northern china.An epidemiological survey of echinococcosis in 2012 and 2016 showed cases of echinococcosis in Yunnan Province.AIM To understand the spatial distribution and epidemiological characteristics of echinococcosis in Yunnan for the prevention and control of echinococcosis and to reduce the risk of infection in Yunnan Province.METHODS Based on the china Information System for Disease Control and Prevention(CISDCP),echinococcosis cases reported from 36 hospitals and 34 Centers for Disease Control were investigated and epidemiologically analyzed from 2021 to 2022.The exclusion criteria included suspected cases,same case only counted once and cases not from Yunnan.A total of 705 cases were investigated,of which 397 cases were suitable for statistical analysis.In these 397 cases,epidemiological investigation was tracked in 187 cases.All data were inputted using double entry in the Excel database,with error correction by double-entry comparison.The data on echinococcosis cases in Yunnan Province were analyzed by ArcGIS 10.1 software to generate a density map of echinococcosis distribution.All statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS 17.0,including the chi-square test,linear regression test and logistic univariate and multivariate regression analyses.RESULTS A total of 397 cases were found in 89 counties in Yunnan Province.The number of cases in the top three prefectures were Dali(38.1%),Diqing(10.1%),and Kunming(8.3%),and the top five counties were Jianchuan(9.1%),Shangri La(8.3%),Eryuan(7.6%),Heqing(6.9%),and Dali Districts(5.0%).There were significant differences between the different areas.The case reporting rate by CISDCP(33.8%)was low;the first case was reported by CISDCP in 2002,and the highest number of cases was 50(2017).Confirmed and clinical cases accounted for 62.5%and 37.5%,respectively.However,90.9%of the cases of hydatid disease were reported by the hospital system,and only 9.1%of the cases of hydatid disease were found in

Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression in Assessing Dengue Fever Spread Factors in Yunnan Border Regions

Objective This study employs the Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression(GTWR)model to assess the impact of meteorological elements and imported cases on dengue fever outbreaks,emphasizing the spatial-temporal variability of these factors in border regions.Methods We conducted a descriptive analysis of dengue fever’s temporal-spatial distribution in Yunnan border areas.Utilizing annual data from 2013 to 2019,with each county in the Yunnan border serving as a spatial unit,we constructed a GTWR model to investigate the determinants of dengue fever and their spatio-temporal heterogeneity in this region.Results The GTWR model,proving more effective than Ordinary Least Squares(OLS)analysis,identified significant spatial and temporal heterogeneity in factors influencing dengue fever’s spread along the Yunnan border.Notably,the GTWR model revealed a substantial variation in the relationship between indigenous dengue fever incidence,meteorological variables,and imported cases across different counties.Conclusion In the Yunnan border areas,local dengue incidence is affected by temperature,humidity,precipitation,wind speed,and imported cases,with these factors’influence exhibiting notable spatial and temporal variation.

Background Schistosoma japonicum is a parasitic flatworm that causes human schistosomiasis,which is a signif-cant cause of morbidity in china,the Philippines and Indonesia.Oncomelania hupensis(Gastropoda:Pomatiopsidae)is the unique intermediate host of S.japonicum.A complete genome sequence of O.hupensis will enable the funda-mental understanding of snail biology as well as its co-evolution with the S.japonicum parasite.Assembling a high-quality reference genome of O.hupehensis will provide data for further research on the snail biology and controlling the spread of S.japonicum.Methods The draft genome was de novo assembly using the long-read sequencing technology(PacBio Sequel I)and corrected with llumina sequencing data.Then,using Hi-C sequencing data,the genome was assembled at the chromosomal level.CAFE was used to do analysis of contraction and expansion of the gene family and CodeML module in PAML was used for positive selection analysis in protein coding sequences.Results A total length of 1.46 Gb high-quality O.hupensis genome with 17 unique full-length chromosomes(2n=34)of the individual including a contig N50 of 1.35 Mb and a scaffold N50 of 75.08 Mb.Additionally,95.03%of these con-tig sequences were anchored in 17 chromosomes.After scanning the assembled genome,a total of 30,604 protein-coding genes were predicted.Among them,86.67%were functionally annotated.Further phylogenetic analysis revealed that O.hupensis was separated from a common ancestor of Pomacea canaliculata and Bellamya purificata approximately 170 million years ago.Comparing the genome of O.hupensis with its most recent common ancestor,it showed 266 significantly expanded and 58 significantly contracted gene families(P<0.05).Functional enrichment of the expanded gene families indicated that they were mainly involved with intracellular,DNA-mediated transposi-tion,DNA integration and transposase activity.Conclusions Integrated use of multiple sequencing technologies,we have successfully constructed the genome at the chromosomal-level of O

The Current State and Progress of Mpox Vaccine Research

On July 23,2022,the World Health Organization(WHO)declared the monkeypox(mpox)outbreak a“Public Health Emergency of International Concern.”Since 2022,outbreaks of mpox in many countries around the world have primarily resulted in fatalities among immunocompromised individuals,such as untreated HIV/AIDS patients.Since the eradication of smallpox was declared by the WHO in 1980,the global vaccination against smallpox has been gradually discontinued.china also stopped routine smallpox vaccination in 1981.The protective effect of the smallpox vaccine has decreased over time due to aging and declining immunity in those who were vaccinated.For individuals,timely vaccination against smallpox is an effective means of protection against mpox.However,due to safety concerns with the smallpox vaccine and the limitations of current mpox vaccines,there is no vaccine that is safe,effective,and has low side effects applied in clinical settings.This article provides a comprehensive review of the development of mpox virus(MPXV)vaccines,their application in special populations,and the current state of vaccine research,considering the etiology,transmission,and prevention of the MPXV.Vaccination,as an effective method of epidemic prevention,can provide long-term immune protection and effectively reduce the severity of infection.However,as there is no licensed specific MPXV vaccine available globally,the vaccines currently used for mpox prevention are mostly smallpox vaccines.These smallpox vaccines can offer some degree of protection against mpox by activating cross-protection in the body.

Comparative Study on the Immunogenicity and Efficacy of Different Post-exposure Intramuscular Rabies Vaccination Regimens in china

Objective This study aimed to compare the current Essen rabies post-exposure immunization schedule(0-3-7-14-28)in china and the simple 4-dose schedule(0-3-7-14)newly recommended by the World Health Organization in terms of their safety,efficacy,and protection.Methods Mice were vaccinated according to different immunization schedules,and blood was collected for detection of rabies virus neutralizing antibodies(RVNAs)on days 14,21,28,35,and 120after the first immunization.Additionally,different groups of mice were injected with lethal doses of the CVS-11 virus on day 0,subjected to different rabies immunization schedules,and assessed for morbidity and death status.In a clinical trial,185 rabies-exposed individuals were selected for post-exposure vaccination according to the Essen schedule,and blood was collected for RVNAs detection on days 28and 42 after the first immunization.Results A statistically significant difference in RVNAs between mice in the Essen and 0-3-7-14 schedule groups was observed on the 35th day(P0.05)in RVNAs levels at any time point.The post-exposure immune protective test showed that the survival rate of mice in the control group was 20%,whereas that in the immunization groups was 40%.In the clinical trial,the RVNAs positive conversion rates on days 28(14 days after 4 doses)and 42(14 days after 5 doses)were both 100%,and no significant difference in RVNAs levels was observed(P>0.05).Conclusion The simple 4-dose schedule can produce sufficient RVNAs levels,with no significant effect of a delayed fourth vaccine dose(14–28 d)on the immunization potential.
