Hexavalent chromium and its compounds are prevalent pollutants,especially in the work environment,pose a significant risk for multisystem toxicity and *** it is known that chromium accumulation in the liver can cause damage,the dose-response relationship between blood chromium(Cr)and liver injury,as well as the possible potential toxic mechanisms involved,remains poorly *** address this,we conducted a follow-up study of 590 visits from 305 participants to investigate the associations of blood Cr with biomarkers for liver injury,including serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),total bilirubin(TBIL),and direct bilirubin(DBIL),and to evaluate the mediating effects of systemic ***(PLT)and the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)were utilized as biomarkers of systemic *** the linear mixed-effects analyses,each 1-unit increase in blood Cr level was associated with estimated effect percentage increases of 0.82%(0.11%,1.53%)in TBIL,1.67%(0.06%,3.28%)in DBIL,0.73%(0.04%,1.43%)in ALT and 2.08%(0.29%,3.87%)in AST,***,PLT mediated 10.04%,11.35%,and 10.77%increases in TBIL,DBIL,and ALT levels induced by chromate,*** addition,PLR mediated 8.26%and 15.58%of the association between blood Cr and TBIL or *** findings shed light on the mechanisms underlying blood Cr-induced liver injury,which is partly due to worsening systemic inflammation.

control of dust in underground coal mines is critical for mitigating both safety and health *** decades,the national institute of occupational Safety and health(NIOSH)has led research to evaluate the effectiveness of various dust control technologies in coal *** studies have included the evaluation of auxiliary scrubbers to reduce respirable dust downstream of active mining and the use of canopy air curtains(CACs)to reduce respirable dust in key operator *** detailed dust characterization was not a focus of such studies,this is a growing area of *** preserved filter samples from three previous NIOSH studies,the current work aims to explore the effect of two different scrubbers(one wet and one dry)and a roof bolter CAC on respirable dust composition and particle size *** this,the preserved filter samples were analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis and/or scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive *** indicate that dust composition was not appreciably affected by either scrubber or the ***,the wet scrubber and CAC appeared to decrease the overall particle size *** an effect of the dry scrubber was not consistently observed,but this is probably related to the particular sampling location downstream of the scrubber which allowed for significant mixing of the scrubber exhaust and other return *** from the insights gained with respect to the three specific dust control case studies revisited here,this work demonstrates the value of preserved dust samples for follow-up investigation more broadly.

Background:Physiological and biochemical processes across tissues of the body are regulated in response to the high demands of intense physical activity in several occupations,such as firefighting,law enforcement,military,and sports.A better understanding of such processes can ultimately help improve human performance and prevent illnesses in the work ***:To study regulatory processes in intense physical activity simulating real-life conditions,we performed a multi-omics analysis of 3 biofluids(blood plasma,urine,and saliva)collected from 11 wildland firefighters before and after a 45 min,intense exercise *** profiles ***-exercise were compared by Student’s t-test followed by pathway analysis and comparison between the different omics ***:Our multi-omics analysis identified and quantified 3835 proteins,730 lipids and 182 metabolites combining the 3 different types of *** blood plasma analysis revealed signatures of tissue damage and acute repair response accompanied by enhanced carbon metabolism to meet energy *** urine analysis showed a strong,concomitant regulation of 6 out of 8 identified proteins from the renin-angiotensin system supporting increased excretion of catabolites,reabsorption of nutrients and maintenance of fluid *** saliva,we observed a decrease in 3 pro-inflammatory cytokines and an increase in 8 antimicrobial peptides.A systematic literature review identified 6 papers that support an altered susceptibility to respiratory ***:This study shows simultaneous regulatory signatures in biofluids indicative of homeostatic maintenance during intense physical activity with possible effects on increased infection susceptibility,suggesting that caution against respiratory diseases could benefit workers on highly physical demanding jobs.

Objective:To explore the reduction effect for the indoor ^(222)Rn(Rn)by Fresh Air Ventilation(FAV)system,a novel commercial ventilation device in ***:The indoor concentrations of Rn and its decay products(RnD)in three residential rooms,two in Beijing and one in Hefei city,Anhui province,before and after FAVS functioned were measured using an active continuous *** air exchange rate was monitored by measuring CO_(2) concentration using the tracer gas ***:In the three rooms,the FAVS reduced the Rn concentrations from(162±80)Bq/m^(3) to(63±22)Bq/m^(3) and decreased the RnD concentrations from(64±35)Bq/m^(3) to(13±6)Bq/m^(3) on average,a decrease of(59±25)% in the Rn concentrations and a drop of(77±18)%in the RnD *** dose conversion factors of Rn and RnD,FAVS decreased the exposure dose by(76±20)%.Besides,FAVS increased the air exchange rates from 0.17 h^(-1) to 0.56 h^(-1) on ***:FAVS can effectively reduce indoor Rn and RnD concentrations by improving the air exchange,serving as a valuable supplement to existing radon mitigation methods,especially in extreme climates.

Prevalence of Cannabis Use around the World:A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis,2000-2024

This study aims to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis on the global prevalence of cannabis use to inform drug prevention strategies,policy-making,and resource *** study initially screened 177,843 studies published between January 1,2000,and January 15,2024,using peer-reviewed databases including Web of Science,PubMed,Scopus,Embase,and Cochrane ***,595 studies were identified for data extraction,and 39 of these were selected as country-representative *** among the selected studies was assessed using the chi-squared test and I2 statistic,while sensitivity analysis was conducted to evaluate the robustness of the *** prevalence of cannabis use varied between 0.42%and 43.90%across 33 European countries,1.40%to 38.12%across 15 North and South American countries,0.30%to 19.10%across 16 Asian countries,and 1.30%to 48.70%across 18 Oceania and African *** pooled prevalence of cannabis use was 12.0%[95%confidence interval(CI):10.0,14.3]in countries where cannabis is legalized,compared to 5.4%(95%CI:4.3,6.9)in non-legalized *** findings indicate that the prevalence of cannabis use has disproportionately increased in most countries with the implementation of medical or recreational cannabis legalization policies and relevant geographic *** efforts are needed to monitor newly cannabis-legalized countries and prevent initial use.
