Efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture for insomnia:A systematic review and meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the mechanisms behind the effects of acupuncture in Traditional Chinese Medicine,we delved into the adenosine triphosphate/peripheral purinergic P2X receptor 3(ATP/P2X3)receptor signaling system as an indicator of the body's energy state,commonly referred to as"Qi".METHODS:The tail-flick test was utilized to explore the impact of acupuncture on pain tolerance threshold(PTT)in mice,while also assessing adenosine(ADO)levels and adenylate energy charge(EC)at Zusanli(ST36).The study further investigated the dose-dependent effects of acupuncture on PTT and ADO levels at Zusanli(ST36).To shed light on the underlying mechanisms of acupuncture's effects,the study examined the impact of ATP,a P2X3 receptor antagonist,and adenosine disodium on PTT following acupuncture ***:acupuncture at Zusanli(ST36)led to significant improvements in PTT in mice,with the most effective interventions being twirling for 2 min and needle retention for 28 *** interventions also resulted in significant increases in ATP *** effects of acupuncture were further augmented by administration of different doses of ATP at Zusanli(ST36),and pretreatment with a P2X3 receptor antagonist decreased *** EC peaked at 30 min after intraperitoneal injection of ATP,and pretreatment with various doses of *** 30 min prior to acupuncture increased PTT in a dose-dependent ***,pretreatment with an *** intramuscular injection of adenosine disodium enhanced the effects of ***:This research provides compelling evidence that ATP is involved in the regulation of PTT through acupuncture,revealing new avenues for achieving enhanced clinical outcomes.

Recent studies have demonstrated that neuroplasticity,such as synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis,exists throughout the normal lifespan but declines with age and is significantly impaired in individuals with Alzheimer’s ***,promoting neuroplasticity may represent an effective strategy with which Alzheimer’s disease can be *** to their significant ability to self-renew,differentiate,and migrate,neural stem cells play an essential role in reversing synaptic and neuronal damage,reducing the pathology of Alzheimer’s disease,including amyloid-β,tau protein,and neuroinflammation,and secreting neurotrophic factors and growth factors that are related to *** events can promote synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis to repair the microenvironment of the mammalian ***,neural stem cells are considered to represent a potential regenerative therapy with which to improve Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative *** this review,we discuss how neural stem cells regulate neuroplasticity and optimize their effects to enhance their potential for treating Alzheimer’s disease in the clinic.

Development and validation of a novel non-invasive test for diagnosing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in Chinese children

With the exploding prevalence of obesity,many children are at risk of developing nonalcoholic fatty liver *** anthropometric and laboratory parameters,our study aimed to develop a model to quantitatively evaluate liver fat content(LFC)in children with *** A well-characterized cohort of 181 children between 5 and 16 years of age were recruited to the study in the Endocrinology Department as the derivation *** external validation cohort comprised 77 *** assessment of liver fat content was performed using proton magnetic resonance *** and laboratory metrics were measured in all subjects.B-ultrasound examination was carried out in the external validation *** Kruskal-Wallis test,Spearman bivariate correlation analyses,univariable linear regressions and multivariable linear regression were used to build the optimal predictive *** The model was based on indicators including alanine aminotransferase,homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance,triglycerides,waist circumference and Tanner *** adjusted R^(2)of the model was 0.589,which presented high sensitivity and specificity both in internal[sensitivity of 0.824,specificity of 0.900,area under curve(AUC)of 0.900 with a 95%confidence interval:0.783–1.000]and external validation(sensitivity of 0.918 and specificity of 0.821,AUC of 0.901 with a 95%confidence interval:0.818–0.984).Conclusions Our model based on five clinical indicators was simple,non-invasive,and inexpensive;it had high sensitivity and specificity in predicting LFC in ***,it may be useful for identifying children with obesity who are at risk for developing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Cuprotosis,a new type of cell death,provides great opportunities for the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma,as nanocarriers of copper ions can induce cuprotosis and immunogenic ***,we studied an editor that enables production of a nanoparticle“storm”in oral squamous cell carcinoma,maximizing the toxic effect of these particles and reprogramming the tumor microenvironment;as a result,T cells and natural killer(NK)cells can infiltrate the tumor microenvironment to activate an antitumor immune *** this basis,the editor can be combined with optical therapy to improve patient *** this study,the metal ratio was regulated in response to the nanocarrier of acid response ***,in the presence of a specific copper ion content,the nanocarrier could change the permeability of the tumor cell *** on these results,the nanoparticles were cracked in an acidic environment and then released copper ***,the nanoparticles contributed to cuprotosis and immunogenic *** addition,the editor could inhibit murine oral cancer 1(MOC1)tumors in C57BL/6 without *** rate of tumor growth inhibition was as high as approximately 80%.This strategy provides a new idea for ***,it can improve the interaction between immunotherapy and the copper-induced death of oral squamous cell *** all,this study will provide a new opportunity for the effective treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Incidence and Mortality of Cancers in Female Genital Organs—China,2022

Introduction:This study presented the incidence and mortality rates of cancers affecting the female genital organs in China,along with their trends spanning from 2010 to ***:700 population-based cancer registries provided relevant cancer incidence and mortality data for the year *** these,106 registries had continuous monitoring data suitable for trend analysis from 2010 to *** focused specifically on cancers affecting female genital organs(ICD10=C51-C54,C56)and projected their incidences and mortalities in China for 2022 based on data from 2018 and the trends observed from 2010 to ***-standardized incidence rate(ASIR)and mortality rate(ASMR)were calculated using Segi’s world standard ***:In 2022,there were an estimated 296,300 new cases and 104,900 deaths from female cancers in *** for vulva(C51),vagina(C52),cervix uteri(C53),corpus uteri(C54),and ovary(C56)were 0.32,0.23,13.83,6.84,and 5.68 per 100,000 *** for corpus uteri and ovary cancers were higher in urban *** for vulva,vagina,cervix,corpus uteri,and ovary cancers were 0.14,0.08,4.54,1.05,and 2.64 per 100,000 population,*** for ovarian cancer was higher in urban *** and ASMRs for most female genital organ cancers increased from 2010 to 2018,although the rate of increase for vulvar and cervical cancers in rural areas has slowed ***:Tailored cancer prevention and control programs specific to each region are necessary to address the growing disease burden.

A Wnt10a-Notch signaling axis controls Hertwig’s epithelial root sheath cell behaviors during root furcation patterning

Human with bi-allelic WNT10A mutations and epithelial Wnt10a knockout mice present enlarged pulp chamber and apical displacement of the root furcation of multi-rooted teeth,known as taurodontism;thus,indicating the critical role of Wnt10a in tooth root ***,the endogenous mechanism by which epithelial Wnt10a regulates Hertwig’s epithelial root sheath(HERS)cellular behaviors and contributes to root furcation patterning remains *** this study,we found that HERS in the presumptive root furcating region failed to elongate at an appropriate horizontal level in K14-Cre;Wnt10a^(fl/fl)mice from post-natal day 0.5(PN0.5)to *** assays and immunofluorescent staining of cyclin D1 revealed significantly decreased proliferation activity of inner enamel epithelial(IEE)cells of HERS in K14-Cre;Wnt10a^(fl/fl)mice at PN2.5 and *** staining of E-Cadherin and acetyl-α-Tubulin demonstrated that the IEE cells of HERS tended to divide perpendicularly to the horizontal plane,which impaired the horizontal extension of HERS in the presumptive root furcating region of K14-Cre;Wnt10a^(fl/fl)***-seq and immunofluorescence showed that the expressions of Jag1 and Notch2 were downregulated in IEE cells of HERS in K14-Cre;Wnt10a^(fl/fl)***,after activation of Notch signaling in K14-Cre;Wnt10a^(fl/fl)molars by Notch2 adenovirus and kidney capsule grafts,the root furcation defect was partially *** together,our study demonstrates that an epithelial Wnt10a-Notch signaling axis is crucial for modulating HERS cell proper proliferation and horizontal-oriented division during tooth root furcation morphogenesis.

Accurate prediction of biliary atresia with an integrated model using MMP-7 levels and bile acids

Background Biliary atresia(BA)is a rare fatal liver disease in children,and the aim of this study was to develop a method to diagnose BA *** We determined serum levels of matrix metalloproteinase-7(MMP-7),the results of 13 liver tests,and the levels of 20 bile acids,and integrated computational models were constructed to diagnose *** Our findings demonstrated that MMP-7 expression levels,as well as the results of four liver tests and levels of ten bile acids,were significantly different between 86 BA and 59 non-BA patients(P<0.05).The computational prediction model revealed that MMP-7 levels alone had a higher predictive accuracy[area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC)=0.966,95%confidence interval(CI):0.942,0.989]than liver test results and bile acid *** AUC was 0.890(95%CI 0.837,0.943)for liver test results and 0.825(95%CI 0.758,0.892)for bile acid ***,bile levels had a higher contribution to enhancing the predictive accuracy of MMP-7 levels(AUC=0.976,95%CI 0.953,1.000)than liver test *** AUC was 0.983(95%CI 0.962,1.000)for MMP-7 levels combined with liver test results and bile acid *** addition,we found that MMP-7 levels were highly correlated with gamma-glutamyl transferase levels and the liver fibrosis *** The innovative integrated models based on a large number of indicators provide a noninvasive and cost-effective approach for accurately diagnosing BA in children.
