Epidemiological status of malaria in Iran,2011-2014

Objective:To demonstrate malaria situation analysis,stratification and planning for an endemic area in southern ***:Data on health system,population,meteorological parameters, malaria cases,anopheline vectors,and control activities during 2005-2007 was obtained from Minab Health Center,Minab Meteorological Station and published documents about malaria elements in the study area.A datasheet was created in excel 2003 for ***:There were 644 health staff working in Minab District including 99 health staff in malaria control *** health facilities are distributed as follow:1 hospital with 96 beds,23 health centers including private centers(10 in Minab city and 13 in rural area of Minab District) and 119 health houses in rural areas of Minab *** stephensi was the dominant species in Minab District,however,Anopheles dthali,Anopheles superpictus,Anopheles fluviatilis,Anopheles multicolor,Anopheles pulcherrimus and Anopheles turkhudi can also be found in the area. Anopheles stephensi was reported susceptible to malathion,propoxur,primphos-methyl,lambdacyhalothrin permethrin and deltamethrin,and resistant to DDT and dieldrin in the *** the study period a total of 10 665 positive cases were reported,mainly due to local transmission (99.6%).Plasmodium vivax was the main causative agent followed by Plasmodium falciparum. Bio-ecology of malaria vectors in an endemic area,Southeast of Iran

Objective:To determine some bio-ecological aspects of malaria vectors in Jask County,where is targeted for malaria elimination in the national ***:Mosquitoes were collected monthly during 2013-2014 using different collection ***,ELISA test was used to detect the human blood index of *** susceptibility status of Anopheles stephensi was evaluated against the diagnostic dosages of seven WHO recommended ***:A total of 3 650 female and 4 736 Anopheles larvae were collected including Anopheles stephensi,Anopheles culicifacies s.l.,Anopheles *** fluviatilis s.l.,Anopheles moghulensis and Anopheles turkhodi *** stephensi was the dominant collected species on human baits and indoors with high rate of unfed and gravid specimens in internal and external window *** blood index was calculated as 14.3%for this *** was also found to be resistant to DDT and ***:The collected species had a wide range of habitats,and resting *** regarding to the presence of most important malaria vectors in *** of the disease may be so complicated;as based on the weather condition it can be transmitted during the whole year,except for cold *** this strong potential of transmission,existing population movements in the area may lead to imported cases of malaria and local outbreak(s).So,more specific studies on malaria vectors in high risk areas of Jask County are recommended.

Assessment of morbidity due to Schistosoma japonicum infection in China

This paper presents a historical assessment of morbidity due to the Schistosoma japonicum infection in *** to the socio-economic situation,which did not allow for a control program to be implemented until the early 1950s,morbidity was serious and mortality was high before *** on a few investigations and published papers,it can be said that the disease caused millions of deaths,and destroyed numerous families and *** the 1950s,there has been a national control program,intensive control and prevention work has been carried out,and consequently the disease is being *** present,both the prevalence and the morbidity of the disease have been decreasing *** morbidity of the three phases of the disease is outlined in this *** higher morbidity is seen in the acute and advanced phases of the *** four major forms of advanced schistosomiasis i.e.,ascites,megalosplenia,dwarfism,and colonic tumoroid proliferation,are outlined with their characteristic clinical presentations;their proportions are different during various periods of the national control *** schistosomiasis and the relationship between the *** infection and colorectal cancer are also ***-transmission schistosomiasis is briefly discussed(which can happen even if the disease reaches the criteria of elimination,and the infection and transmission have stopped,but yet it still develops).The problem of mammalian reservoir hosts of *** makes the epidemiology and control of schistosomiasis in China even more complicated and arduous,and the control progress in animal reservoirs is briefly presented.

Background:Artemisinin-based combination treatments(ACTs)are the first-line treatments of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in many endemic areas but there are few evaluation of their efficacy in anaemic malarious ***:Therapeutic efficacy of 3-day regimens of artesunate-amodiaquine and artemether-lumefantrine was evaluated in 437 anaemic and 909 non-anaemic malarious children following treatment during a seven-year period(2008-2014).Patterns of temporal changes in haematocrit were classified based on haematocrit values<30%and≥30%.Kinetics of the disposition of the deficit in haematocrit from 30%following treatment were evaluated using a non-compartment ***:PCR-corrected parasitological efficacy 28 days after start of treatment was significantly higher in artesunateamodiaquine-compared to artemether-lumefantrine-treated children[97%(95%CI:92.8-100)versus 96.4%(95%CI:91.3-99.4),P=0.02],but it was similar in non-anaemic and anaemic *** in haematocrit/1000 asexual parasites cleared from peripheral blood was significantly greater at lower compared to higher parasitaemias(P<0.0001),and in non-anaemic compared to anaemic children(P=0.007).In anaemic children at presentation,mean anaemia recovery time(AnRT)was 15.4 days(95%CI:13.3-17.4)and it did not change over the *** in haematocrit deficits from 30%were monoexponential with mean estimated half-time of 1.4 days(95%CI:1.2-1.6).Anaemia half-time(t_(1/2anaemia))correlated positively with AnRT in the same patients(r=0.69,P<0.0001).Bland-Altman analysis of 10 multiples of t_(1/2anaemia) and AnRT showed narrow limit of agreement with insignificant bias(P=0.07)suggesting both can be used interchangeably in the same ***:Artesunate-amodiaquine and artemether-lumefantrine remain efficacious treatments of uncomplicated *** infections in non-anaemic and anaemic Nigerian children in the last 7 years of adoption as first-line *** ACTs may also
