Importance of bird traits for seed dispersal patterns of co-fruiting trees in a patchy forest

Habitat fragmentation is globally one of the most important drivers of change in *** dispersal by birds is crucial for tree regeneration in remnant patchy forests,yet how bird traits affect seed dispersal pattern is still poorly *** studied the extent to which bird traits affect seed-removal networks and whether these traits affect seed deposition and seedling recruitment for 3 co-fruiting tree species(Taxus chinensis,Cinnamomum bodinieri and Machilus thunbergii)in a patchy forest.A total of 17,18 and 10 bird species were recorded foraging for seeds of ***,*** and ***,*** of bird visitation increased with tail length,wing length and body ***,bird body length,bill length,body weight and wing length were important in the strength of the seed removal *** foraging,6 bird species exhibited different patterns of microhabitat utilization and their perching frequency increased with bird weight and tarsus *** a consequence,frequency of habitat use,bird length and tarsus length were important in determining the number of deposited *** seedling recruitment,seedling number increased with bird tarsus length and weight,but decreased with wing ***,our results showed that various bird traits not only affected seed removal,but also influenced the subsequent processes of seed deposition and seedling distribution in a patchy *** results thus highlight the importance of large-bodied birds for plant recruitment and point out the need to prioritize the protection and conservation of these birds in remnant patchy forests.

Seed dispersal by wintering ducks in a coastal wetland of eastern China

Duck species are important vectors for seed dispersal of many plants,contributing significantly to the regeneration of wetland plant ***,research on the temporal changes in diet and the dynamics and differences of seed dispersal among different duck species is still *** this study,we analyzed the diversity of duck community and the diversity of seeds in the feces of different duck species from December to February for 2022–23 and 2023–24 in the coastal wetland of Dafeng,eastern Jiangsu Province,China.A total of 13 duck species were recorded in the four habitats,of which Spot-billed Ducks(Anas zonorhyncha)and Mallards(***)were the most *** diversity and abundance of ducks vary across different habitats,and tidal flat supports the greatest diversity and abundance of *** collected fecal samples from Spot-billed Ducks,Gadwalls(Mareca strepera),Mallards,and Eurasian Teals(***)in the tidal flat,from which seeds belonging to 7 families,13 genera and 15 different plant species were *** were significant differences in seed dispersal among the four duck species,which varied with the *** and Common Teals showed more significant diversity in seed dispersal,with their feces containing a greater variety of plant seeds,which is related to their broader dietary range and ecological ***,the seasonal variation in the number of seeds per feces reflected the availability of seeds in the habitat and the response of ducks to environmental changes,while variations in seed intake among different duck species may be associated with inter-annual weather condition *** results of this study will provide a new perspective for understanding the mechanisms of bird-mediated seed dispersal in coastal wetland and offer preliminary insights for the seed dispersal by Asian ducks.

Small-Signal Analysis of Performance Characterization of Chaotic Masking Decoding in Injected Semiconductor Lasers

Performance characterization of chaotic masking encoding and decoding is studied in synchronization injected semiconductor lasers under condition of injected-feedback. The modulation response function of chaotic masking encoding and its response factor are theoretically deduced and analysed by small-signal analysis. It is numerically demonstrated that there are peak values between 1.52 GHz and 3.18 GHz when the injection coefficient is between 0.2 and 0.8. The chaotic synchronization error equation is theoretically deduced and its root is given by small- signal analysis under condition of chaotic masking encoding. The chaotic decoding formula is also theoretically demonstrated. There are the least dale values of synchronization errors between the modulation frequencies of 0.79GHz and 1.91 GHz when the injection coefficient is between 0.1 and 0.8 in numerical simulation. The numerical result is well consistent with the theoretical demonstration.

Parenting of Immigrant Chinese Families in Western Countries:A Systematic Review

Increasing numbers of studies have been done on parenting in Chinese immigrant families due to the growing population of Chinese immigrants in Western *** paper systematically reviews 35 peer-reviewed journal articles relevant to parenting in Chinese immigrant families,categorizing them into descriptive studies,simple explanatory studies,and dialectical and dynamic studies,and identifying their major findings and *** finds that descriptive studies tend to describe parenting as a collection of static characteristics,and simple explanatory studies are likely to define parenting as an independent factor mechanically related to other *** these two types of studies are barely able to reveal the real essence of parenting in immigrant Chinese *** solve the limitations of descriptive studies and simple explanatory studies,this paper argues for conducting dynamic and dialectical studies,which conceptualize parenting as a dynamic process dialectically related to cultural differences and other processes.

Enhanced circular dichroism based on the dual-chiral metamaterial in terahertz regime

The obvious circular dichroism（CD） and optical activity can be obtained based on the chiral metamaterial due to the plasmon-enhanced effect, which is very attractive for future compact devices with enhanced capabilities of light manipulation. In this paper, we propose a dual-chiral metamaterial composed of bilayer asymmetric split ring resonators（ASRR）that are in mirror-symmetry shape. It is demonstrated that the CD can get enhancement in the terahertz regime. Moreover,the CD can be further improved by modulating the asymmetry of ASRR. The enhanced CD effect in the terahertz regime has great potential applications in sensing, biomedical imaging, and molecular recognition.

Interfacial atomic configuration between dual-metal active species and nitrogen-carbon substrates is of great importance for improving the intrinsic activity of catalysts toward oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).Thus,from the atomic-scale engineering we develop a high intrinsic activity ORR catalyst in terms of incorporating atomically dispersed dual Fe centers(single Fe atoms and ultra-small Fe atomic clusters)into bamboo-like N-doped carbon *** from atomically dispersed dual-Fe centers on the atomic interface of Fe-Nx/carbon nanotubes,the fabricated dual Fe centers catalyst exhibits an extremely high ORR activity(E_(onset)=1.006 V;E_(1/2)=0.90 V),beyond state-of-the-art Pt/***,this catalyst also shows a superior kinetic current density of 19.690 mA·cm^(−2),which is 7 times that of state-of-the-art Pt/***,based on the excellent catalyst,the primary Zn-air battery reveals a high power density up to 137 mW·cm^(−2) and sufficient potential cycling stability(at least 25 h).Undoubtedly,given the unique structure–activity relationship of dual-Fe active species and metal-nitrogen-carbon substrates,the catalyst will show great prospects in highly efficient electrochemical energy conversion devices.

Unsupervised feature selection based on Markov blanket and particle swarm optimization

Feature selection plays an important role in data mining and recognition, especially in the large scale text, image and biological data. Specifically, the class label information is unavailable to guide the selection of minimal feature subset in unsupervised feature selection, which is challenging and interesting. An unsupervised feature selection based on Markov blanket and particle swarm optimization is proposed named as UFSMB-PSO. The proposed method seeks to find the high-quality feature subset through multi-particles' cooperation of particle swarm optimization without using any learning algorithms. Moreover, the features' relevance will be computed based on an information metric of relevance gain, which provides an information theoretical foundation for finding the minimization of the redundancy between features. Our results on several benchmark datasets demonstrate that UFSMB-PSO can achieve significant improvement over state of the art unsupervised methods. © 1990-2011 Beijing Institute of Aerospace Information.

We investigate the chiral edge states-induced Josephson current–phase relation in a graphene-based Josephson junction modulated by the off-resonant circularly polarized light and the staggered sublattice *** solving the Bogoliubov–de Gennes equation,a φ_(0) Josephson junction is induced in the coaction of the off-resonant circularly polarized light and the staggered sublattice potential,which arises from the fact that the center of-mass wave vector of Cooper pair becomes finite and the opposite center of-mass wave vector to compensate is lacking in the nonsuperconducting ***,when the direction of polarization of light is changed,-φ_(0) to φ_(0) transition generates,which generalizes the concept of traditional 0–π*** findings provide a purely optical way to manipulate a phase-controllable Josephson device and guidelines for future experiments to confirm the presence of graphene-based φ_(0)Josephson junction.
