In December 2013, a new round of Ebola virus disease （EVD） first occurred in a remote countryside of Guinea and then spread in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria of West Africa. EVD, caused by Ebolavirus and previously known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is an acute infectious disease with fatality rates up to 90%. As of August 22, 2014, the number of suspected and confirmed cases was 2615, causing 1427 deaths[I]. On August 8, 2014, World Health Organization announced the current outbreak in West Africa as an international public health emergency. The global epidemic tendency remains ambiguous to date. In recent years, China closely collaborates with West Africa in labor, business, overseas education, and also sends aid medical team there. Thus, the risk of importing the disease cannot be ignored. We conduct this literature review of epidemiology, pathogen, prophylaxis, and treatment to provide evidence for controlling the risk and carrying out effective interventions.

Molecular Characterization of Full-length Genome of Japanese Encephalitis Virus Genotype V Isolated from Tibet, China

Objective To determine the molecular characterization of full-length genome of Japanese encephalitis virus （JEV） genotype V. Methods The full-length nucleotide sequences of JEV strains isolated from different locations and sources were used in sequence and phylogenetic analysis. Results The full-length genome of genotypes V JEV, XZ0934, and Muar strain were composed of 10 983 and 10 988 nucleotides respectively and shared a lower level of identity with JEV genotypes I-IV, ranging from 78.4% （G I, KV1899） to 79.7% （G III, JaGAr01）, for the nucleotide sequences, and from 90.0%（G I, KV1899） to 91.8%（G III, JaGAr01） for the amino acid sequences. The open reading frame （ORF） of JEV genotype V spanned nucleotides 96 to 10 397 and encoded 3 433 amino acids. Interestingly, a comparison with JEV genotype I-IV revealed that 3 nucleotides （encoded with a serine residue） were inserted in the NS4A gene of JEV genotype V, and the insertion of nucleotides was also found in downstream of the ORF stop codon in 3’-untranslated region. Moreover, numerous amino acid mutations were observed in 3 functional domains of the E gene of JEV genotype V. Conclusion The molecular characterization of JEV genotype V is significantly different from that of the known genotypes I-IV. The mutations located in the coding region and the non-coding region may be molecular markers of JEV genotype V and warrant further studies to determine their effects on biology and immunogenicity of genotype V strains.

This study reports the frst death caused by a novel avian infuenza A(H7N9)virus in Zhejiang Province,*** patient had chronic hepatitis B and history of exposure to *** patient initially complained of diarrhea and infuenza-like symptoms on March 7 and 14 *** disease progressed to severe pneumonia,sustained hypoxia,and coagulation *** patient died on March 27 because of respiratory failure,multiple organ failure,and disseminated intravascular coagulation without oseltamivir *** H7N9 virus from Zhejiang is highly similar to isolates obtained from Shanghai,Jiangsu,Anhui,*** of hemagglutinin,neuramidinase,and matrix genes indicated that the isolates share the same avian origin,have low virulence,and are sensitive to oseltamivir,but are resistant to *** the isolate that caused the fatality exhibited substitution of Q226I in the HA gene,which indicates a potentially enhanced human *** secondary transmission rate was 1.6%(2/125).Only two health workers presented with infuenza-like symptoms,and they subsequently tested negative for H7N9 *** conclusion,underlying disease,late diagnosis,and untimely antiviral treatment are possible high-risk factors for infections and death caused by the lowpathogenicity avian infuenza A(H7N9).Person-to-person transmission of the H7N9 virus was not detected among close contacts,but such transmission should be investigated in the *** and enhancing surveillance will help in the early discovery and diagnosis of suspected cases,which will reduce the number of severe cases and deaths.

Influenza-like illness(ILI)is an acute respiratory infection caused by various ***,the epidemiologic characteristics of ILI pathogens in Jiangsu province are *** better understand the ILI etiology,the characteristics of the pathogens from nasopharyngeal swab samples of patients with ILI collected from 2012 to 2016 in 6 hospitals in Jiangsu province were *** pathogens,including influenza virus,respiratory syncytial virus(RSV),rhinovirus(HRV),adenovirus(ADV),herpes simplex virus(HSV),human coronavirus(hCoV),Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae,were detected by real-time *** least one pathogen was identified in 1334 of the patients(40.23%).Among viruses,HRV,influenza A virus(Flu A),ADV and RSV were the most frequently *** was the only pathogen that was distributed evenly in different years and regions(P>0.05).The etiological distribution varied in different age *** pneumoniae was the most common pathogen in co-infections with a co-detection rate of 64.57%(319/494).The spectrum of etiologies could help to estimate disease burden and provide guidance for vaccination.

Objective Antimicrobial resistance(AMR)has become a global concern and is especially severe in *** effectively and reliably provide AMR data,we developed a new high-throughput real-time PCR assay based on microfluidic dynamic technology,and screened multiple AMR genes in broiler fecal *** A high-throughput real-time PCR system with an new designed integrated fluidic circuit assay were performed AMR gene detection.A total of 273 broiler fecal samples collected from two geographically separated farms were screened AMR *** The new assay with limits of detection ranging from 40.9 to 8,000 copies/*** sensitivity rate,specificity rate,positive predictive value,negative predictive value and correct indices were 99.30%,98.08%,95.31%,99.79%,and 0.9755,*** this assay,we demonstrate that AMR genes are widely spread,with positive detection rates ranging from 0 to 97.07%in 273 broiler fecal *** CTX-M,bla TEM,mcr-1,fex A,cfr,optr A,and int I1 showed over 80%*** dissemination of AMR genes was distinct between the two *** We successfully established a new high-throughput real-time PCR assay applicable to AMR gene surveillance from fecal *** widespread existence of AMR genes detected in broiler farms highlights the current and severe problem of AMR.

Background This study aimed to explore the imaging characteristics,diversity and changing trend in CT scans of pediatric patients infected with Delta-variant strain by studying imaging features of children infected with Delta and comparing the results to those of children with original *** A retrospective,comparative analysis of initial chest CT manifestations between 63 pediatric patients infected with Delta variant in 2021 and 23 pediatric patients with COVID-19 in 2020 was *** imaging features were *** addition,the changing trend in imaging features of COVID-19 Delta-variant cases were explored by evaluating the initial and follow-up CT *** Among 63 children with Delta-variant COVID-19 in 2021,34(53.9%)showed positive chest CT presentation;and their CT score(1.10±1.41)was signifcantly lower than that in 2020(2.56±3.5)(P=0.0073).Lesion distribution:lung lesions of Delta cases appear mainly in the lower lungs on both *** children had single lobe involvement(18 cases,52.9%),14(41.2%)in the right lung alone,and 14(41.2%)in both lungs.A majority of Delta cases displayed initially ground glass(23 cases,67.6%)and nodular shadows(13 cases,38.2%)in the frst CT scan,with few extrapulmonary *** 34 children with abnormal chest CT for the frst time have a total of 92 chest CT *** children showed a statistically signifcant diference between the 0-3 day group and the 4-7 day group(P=0.0392)and a signifcant diference between the 4-7 day group and the more than 8 days group(P=0.0003).Conclusions The early manifestations of COVID-19 in children with abnormal imaging are mostly small subpleural nodular ground glass *** changes on the Delta-variant COVID-19 chest CT were milder than the original *** lesions reached a peak on CT in 4-7 days and quickly improved and absorbed after a *** CT re-examination can achieve a good prognosis.

The first indigenous incidence of Mpox(previously known as monkeypox)within Chinese mainland was documented in May 2023,with subsequent local and imported cases identified.A comprehensive understanding of the Mpox virus’s(MPXV)characteristics within Beijing remains *** this study,84 MPXV genomes from 82 local incidents and two imported instances,detected between May and July 2023,were *** MPXV strains fell within lineage C.1 of the West African clade,displaying limited genetic heterogeneity,encompassing 76–87 nucleotide substitutions and holding nucleotide identities between 99.996%and 100%.Phylogenetic exploration indicated that all genomes exhibited high homology to those presently prevalent in neighboring East Asian and Southeast Asian ***-six distinct haplotypes were identified among the strains,with 36.90%of genomes corresponding to four common haplotypes,suggesting repeated cross-regional introductions and restrained distribution via recurrent local *** findings elucidate the genetic diversity and phylogenesis of MPXVs during their nascent transmission within Beijing and provide vital information to enhance future Mpox containment strategies.
