We read the article entitled“The presence of NAFLD in nonobese subjects increased the risk of metabolic abnormalities than obese subjects without NAFLD:A population-based cross-sectional study”by Hu et al.(1),which was published in the latest issue of Hepatobiliary surgery Nutrition,with great *** the authors described,due to rapid urbanization and sedentary lifestyles,the prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)has *** this population-based,cross-sectional health survey study,in which the data were obtained from community health centers,the investigators reported that the prevalence of NAFLD in shanghai,China grew from 15%in 2005 to 32.7%in 2017(1).To gain a better understanding of the prevalence of metabolic features in relation to NAFLD status,gender,and age,the authors quantified the risks of having different metabolic conditions between the following 4 groups:(I)the non-obese NAFLD group;(II)the non-obese non-NAFLD group;(III)the obese non-NAFLD group;and(IV)the obese NAFLD group(1).

Cell surface protein engineering facilitated by accumulation of information on genome and protein structure involves heterologous production and modifica- tion of cell surface proteins using genetic engineering, and is important for the development of high-performance whole-cell catalysts. In this field, cell surface display is a major technology by exposing target proteins, such as enzymes, on the cell surface using a cartier protein. The target proteins are fused to the carrier proteins that transport and tether them to the cell surface, as well as to a secretion signal. This paper reviews cell surface display systems for prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells from the perspective of carrier proteins, which determine the number of displayed molecules, and the localization, size, and direction （N- or C-terminal anchoring） of the passengers. We also discuss advanced methods for displaying multiple enzymes and a new method for the immobilization of whole-cell catalysts using adhesive surface proteins.

Usefulness of the Japanese version of Rapid Dementia screening Test for mild cognitive impairment in older patients with cardiovascular disease:a cross-sectional study

BACKGROUND Cognitive decline is common among older patients with cardiovascular disease(CVD) and can decrease their self-management abilities. However, the instruments for identifying mild cognitive impairment(MCI) are not always feasible in clinical practice. Therefore, this study evaluated whether MCI could be detected using the Japanese version of the Rapid Dementia screening Test(RDsT-J), which is a simple screening tool for identifying cognitive *** This retrospective single-center study included patients who were ≥ 65 years old and hospitalized because of *** with a pre-hospitalization diagnosis of dementia were excluded. Each patient's cognitive function had been measured at discharge using the RDsT-J and the Japanese version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment(Mo CA-J), which is a standard tool for MCI screening. The correlation between the two scores was evaluated using spearman's rank correlation coefficient. Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) analysis was also to evaluate whether the RDsT-J could identify MCI, which was defined as a Mo CA-J score of ≤ 25 *** The study included 78 patients(mean age: 77.2 ± 8.9 years). The RDsT-J and Mo CA-J scores were strongly correlated(r = 0.835, P sis revealed that an RDsT-J score of ≤ 9 points provided 75.4% sensitivity and 95.2% specificity for identifying MCI, with an area under the curve of 0.899(95% CI: 0.835-0.964). The same cut-off value was identified when excluding patients with a high probability of dementia(RDsT-J score of ≤ 4 points).CONCLUsIONs The RDsT-J may be a simple and effective tool for identifying MCI in older patients with CVD.

A molecular orbital approach to materials design has recently made great progress. This approach is based onthe electronic structure calculations by the DV-Xα cluster method. In this paper recent progress in this approachis reviewed. In particular, it is stressed that New PHACOMP approach is useful for predicting the formation oftopologically close-packed (TCP) phases (e.g., σ phase andμ phase ) in nickel based superalloys. Compared to thecurrent PHACOMP, New PHACOMP provides a better tool for designing those alloys which are free from such TCPprecipitates at service temperatures. In addition, the d-electrons concept is shown for alloy design and development.

In this study,older male drivers’stress while driving in straight links and while proceeding through intersections is *** area network(CAN),self-reported stress(sRs),and physiological data was collected in 22.4 km-long experimental trips among older and young ***,this study finds that older drivers reported much less stress than young ***,principal components(PCs)of the physiological data demonstrate that older drivers might underrate their driving stress in entire trips,except regarding turning at ***,following other vehicles reduced older drivers’driving stress because preceding vehicles might help them control driving speed,detect the path,and prevent road *** contrast,the similar condition increased the stress level of young *** results of random effects regression models confirm that age was the significant impact factor on sRs and physiological *** examining whether the stress at intersections could affect their driving behaviors,significant difference between two age groups was found neither in turning time nor in the driving *** study also confirms that physical and mental changes with aging can negatively affect older adults’*** the relationships among stress,speed,and accidents,we suggest the provision of more driver assistance systems,training,and education and improving intersection design for older drivers.

The Nadanhada terrane, a Jurassic disrupted terrane in Heilongjiang Province of China, is principallycomposed of Permo-Carboniferous limestone and greenstone, Triassic bedded chert and middle Jurassicsiliceous shale, all enclosed within younger (presumably Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous) clastics. Palaeon-tological and lithological characteristics and structural features of these formations are entirely identical tothose of the Mino terrane of the Japanese Islands. Prior to opening of the sea of Japan, these terranesformed a single superterrane together with the Western sikhote-Alin terrane. Tectono-stratigraphic terranesvery similar to the Nadanhada and Mino terranes are also found in the Ryukyu arc, the Philippines andprobably in Borneo. All these terranes constituted a belt of accretionary complexes during Late Jurassicand / or Early Cretaceous time along the eastern continental margin of Asia after completion of the Triassiccollage of the Chinese continent.

Delayed rectifier K+ current (IK) is the major outward current responsible for ventricular repolarization. Two components of IK (IKr and IKs) have been identified in many mammalian species including humans. IKr plays a pivotal role in normal ventricular repolarization. A prolongation of action potential duration (APD) under a variety of conditions would favor the activation of IKs so that to prevent excessive repolarization delay causing early afterdepolarization. The pore-forming α subunits of IKr and IKs are composed of HERG (KCNH2) and KvLQT1 (KCNQ1), respectively. KvLQT1 is associated with a function-altering β subunit, minK to form IKs. HERG may be associated with minK (KCNE1) and/or minK-related protein (MiRP1) to form IKr, but the issue remains to be established. IKs is enhanced, whereas IKr is usually attenuated by β-adrenergic stimulation via cyclic adenosine 3’,5’- monophosphate (cAMP)/protein kinase A-dependent pathways. There exist regional differences in the density of IKr and IKs transmurally (endo-epicardial) and along the apico-basal axis, contributing to the spatial heterogeneity of ventricular repolarization. A decrease of IKr or IKs by mutations in either HERG, KvLQT1, or KCNE family results in inherited long QT syndrome (LQTs) with high risk for Torsades de pointes (TdP)-type polymorphic ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation. As to the pharmacological treatment and prevention of ventricular tachyarrhythmias, selectively block of IKs is expected to be more beneficial than selectively block of IKr in terms of homogeneous prolongation of refractoriness at high heart rates especially in diseased hearts including myocardial ischemia.

Although auxin and brassinosteroid （BR） synergistically control various plant responses, the molecular mechanism underlying the auxin-BR crosstalk is not wen understood. We previously identified sMOs1, an auxin-regulated APETALA2-type transcription factor, as the causal gene of the small organ size 1 （smosl） mutant that is characterized by a decreased final size of various organs in rice. In this study, we identified another smos mutant, smos2, which shows the phenotype indistinguishable from smosl. sMOs2 was identical to the previously reported DWARF AND LOWoTILLERING （DLT）, which encodes a GRAs protein involved in BR signaling. sMOs1 and sMOs2/DLT physically interact to cooperatively enhance transcriptional transactivation activity in yeast and in rice nuclei. Consistently, the expression of OsPHI-1, a direct target of sMOs1, is upregulated only when sMOs1 and sMOs2/DLT proteins are both present in rice ceils. Taken together, our results suggest that sMOs1 and sMOs2/DLT form a keystone complex on auxin-BR signaling crosstalk in rice.

Nanometer-sized metal clusters were prepared inside single crystalline MgO films by vacuum co-deposition of metals and MgO. The atomic structure was studied by high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM) and nm-area electron diffraction. The size of the clusters is ranging from 1 nm to 3 nm without those larger than 5 nm, and most of them have definite epitaxial orientations with the MgO matrix films. The character of the composite films is very much useful for the studies of various kinds of physical properties with anisotroPy. The physical properties such as electric transport, magnetic, optical absorption, sintering and catalytic ones were thus measured on the same samples analyzed by HREM by using high sensitivity apparatus with interest of clarifying the retationship between the atomic structure and physical properties
