New role of α phase in the fracture behavior and fracture toughness of a β-type bio-titanium alloy

The role of α precipitates formed during aging in the fracture toughness and fracture behavior of β-type bio-titanium alloy Ti–29Nb–13Ta–4.6Zr(TNTZ) was studied. Results showed that the fracture toughness of the TNTZ alloy aged at 723 K decreases to the minimum of 72.07–73.19 kJ·m^(-2)when the aging time is extended to 4–8 h and then gradually increases and reaches 144.89 kJ·m^(-2)after 72 h. The decrease in fracture toughness within the aging time of 4–8 h is caused by the large stress concentration at the tip of acicular α precipitates with a high aspect ratio and the preferential crack propagation along the inhomogeneous acicular α precipitates distributed in “V-shape” and “nearly perpendicular shape”. When the aging time is extended to 8–72 h, the precrack tip is uniformly blunted, and the crack is effectively deflected by α precipitates with multi long axis directions, more high homogeneity, low aspect ratio, and large number density. Analysis of the effect of αprecipitates on the fracture behavior suggested that the number of long axis directions of α precipitates is the key controlling factor for the fracture behavior and fracture toughness of the TNTZ alloy aged for different times.

Regional neuromuscular regulation within rectus femoris muscle following three-month limb-loaded walking in older adults

Limb-loaded walking using ankle weights has been widely applied to increase exercise intensity in older *** changes in the activation pattern between proximal(RFP)and distal(RFD)regions of the rectus femoris(RF)muscle is key to clarifying gait deficits in older *** aim of this study was to determine regional neuromuscular regulation within the RF muscle following three-month limb-loaded walking in older *** study participants were 22 healthy older adults(696.3 years)who walked at least 160 min per *** electromyography(EMG)and motion capture were used to measure the neuromuscular activities of RFP and RFD and generate kinematic data on the left lower extremity on walking for 240 s at the preferred gait speed on a treadmill at pre-and post-intervention,*** rectified values(ARV)of RFP and RFD were normalized by maximum values of ARV during a gait cycle within ten consecutive gait *** ARV of RFP was greater than RFD at 30%–40%and 70%–90%of the gait cycle and hip joint flexion at 0%–100%,and the walking speed and swing timing at post-were greater than at pre-intervention(psignificant differences were noted in the RFP to RFD activity ratio(RFP/RFD ratio)between pre-and post-intervention,and there was no correlation between the RFP activity level and hip flexion angle in the swing phase(p>0.05).The activity of RFP compared with RFD and hip joint flexion were increased following limb-loaded walking intervention in older adults.

In the central nervous system,the A6 noradrenaline(NA)and the B3 serotonin(5-HT)cell groups are well-recognized players in the descending antinociceptive system,while other NA/5-HT cell groups are not well characterized.A5/A7 NA and B25-HT cells project to the spinal horn and form descending *** recorded G-Ca MP6 green fluorescence signal intensities in the A5/A7 NA and the B25-HT cell groups of awake mice in response to acute tail pinch stimuli,acute heat stimuli,and in the context of a non-noxious control test,using fiber photometry with a calcium imaging *** first introduced G-Ca MP6 in the A5/A7 NA or B25-HT neuronal soma,using transgenic mice carrying the tetracycline-controlled transactivator transgene under the control of either a dopamineβ-hydroxylase or a tryptophan hydroxylase-2 promoters and by the site-specific injection of adeno-associated virus(AAV-Tet O(3 G)-G-Ca MP6).After confirming the specific expression patterns of G-Ca MP6,we recorded G-Ca MP6 green fluorescence signals in these sites in awake mice in response to acute nociceptive stimuli.G-Ca MP6 fluorescence intensity in the A5,A7,and B2 cell groups was rapidly increased in response to acute nociceptive stimuli and soon after,it returned to baseline fluorescence *** was not observed in the non-noxious control *** results indicate that acute nociceptive stimuli rapidly increase the activities of A5/A7 NA or B25-HT neurons but the non-noxious stimuli do *** present study suggests that A5/A7 NA or B25-HT neurons play important roles in nociceptive processing in the central nervous *** suggest that A5/A7/B2 neurons may be new therapeutic *** performed procedures were approved by the Institutional Animal Use Committee of Kagoshima university(MD17105)on February 22,2018.

It is well known that fabric of sand may significantly affect mechanical behaviors and liquefaction resistance of *** optical techniques are currently utilized to visualize the fabric,especially the distribution of the long axis of soil ***,none of these methods provides an ideal solution in laboratory tests and in situ *** this study,anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility(AMs)was first proposed as a convenient and efficient way to evaluate the liquefaction of clean *** first,investigations with scanning electron microscopy(sEM)and AMs were simultaneously conducted on two groups of soil specimens with different initial fabrics to verify the feasibility of the AMs ***,80 in situ samples were collected to analyze the feature of liquefied and non-liquefied sand layers through AMs *** is clearly known from the test results that the natural sedimentary fabric was destroyed during liquefaction and the fabric anisotropy was greatly changed after *** feasibility of evaluating soil fabric using the AMs survey was verified by the laboratory ***,the applicability of AMs in detecting liquefied layer in situ was confirmed for the first time.

Anisotropic alumina ceramics with isotropic optical properties

Excellent mechanical and isotropic optical properties are achieved simultaneously from fully dense polycrystalline advanced alumina ceramics with a hexagonal crystal structure,which are optically anisotropic.A small amount(240 ppm)of ZrO_(2) additive is used to synthesize the transparent alumina ceramics with an average grain size of 0.7µm,and locally detected optical distortion(birefringence)is extremely minimized,less than 20 nm/*** transmittance(86%)of the alumina ceramics(thickness=0.3 mm)in ultraviolet(UV)to infrared(IR)regions is similar to that of commercial c-axis sapphire single crystals produced by Czochralski(CZ)method,while the extinction ratio in the visible wavelength area is over 25 *** glass and the c-axis sapphire single crystals,the alumina ceramics can clearly display texts and images on liquid crystal display(LCD)screens.A grain boundary phase of nano-sized Al_(2)O_(3)-ZrO_(2) composition(amorphous)is formed at the grain boundary of the advanced alumina ceramics,which enhances four-point bending strength and fracture toughness(KIC)simultaneously to 921 MPa and 6.8 MPa·m^(0.5),respectively,and hence the mechanical properties are superior to those of the sapphire single crystals.

User-centric data sharing is essential to encourage citizens'active participation in the digital *** key to smart cities,a form of the digital economy,is the promotion of public use of citizen ***,it is not easy to utilize data without citizens’*** this study,we took a technological approach to these *** access(UMA)is a well-known framework for delegating resource access rights to others on the *** UMA,authorization mechanisms are designed to be centralized so that resource owners can centrally manage access rights for various resources stored in different ***,the lack of transparency in the authorization mechanism is a barrier to its implementation in large-scale systems such as smart *** this study,we developed a blockchain-based cross-domain authorization architecture that enables a resource-sharing ecosystem in which organizations that wish to utilize data can freely trade with each *** proposed architecture solves the transparency problem that conventional authorization systems have had by designing the authorization mechanism on blockchain *** implemented the proposed architecture as smart contracts and evaluated its processing *** resultant time required for delegating access rights and accessing resources was less than 500 ***,we found that the fluctuation in the processing time overhead was *** on these results,we concluded that performance degradation with the proposed architecture is minor.

Free Energy Change of Micelle Formation for sodium Dodecyl sulfate from a Dispersed state in solution to Complete Micelles along Its Aggregation Pathways Evaluated by Chemical species Model Combined with Molecular Dynamics Calculations

surfactant molecules, when dispersed in solution, have been shown to spontaneously form aggregates. Our previous studies on molecular dynamics(MD) calculations have shown that ionic sodium dodecyl sulfate molecules quickly aggregated even when the aggregation number is small. The aggregation rate, however, decreased for larger aggregation numbers. In addition, studies have shown that micelle formation was not completed even after a 100 ns-long MD run(Chem. Phys. Lett. 2016, 646, 36). Herein, we analyze the free energy change of micelle formation based on chemical species model combined with molecular dynamics calculations. First, the free energy landscape of the aggregation, ?G_(i+j)^+, where two aggregates with sizes i and j associate to form the(i + j)-mer, was investigated using the free energy of micelle formation of the i-mer, G_i^+, which was obtained through MD calculations. The calculated ?G_(i+j)^+ was negative for all the aggregations where the sum of Ds ions in the two aggregates was 60 or less. From the viewpoint of chemical equilibrium, aggregation to the stable micelle is desired. Further, the free energy profile along possible aggregation pathways was investigated, starting from small aggregates and ending with the complete thermodynamically stable micelles in solution. The free energy profiles, G(l, k), of the aggregates at l-th aggregation path and k-th state were evaluated by the formation free energy ∑_in_i( l,k)G_i^+ and the free energy of mixing ∑_in_i( l,k)k_BTln( n_i( l,k)/n( l,k)), where ni(l, k) is the number of i-mer in the system at the l-th i aggregation path and k-th state, with n(l,k)= ∑_n_i( l,k). All the aggregation pathways were obtained from the initial i state of 12 pentamers to the stable micelle with i = 60. All the calculated G(l, k) values monotonically decreased with increasing k.
