Solvent extraction of neodymium(Ⅲ) from acidic nitrate medium using Cyanex 921 in kerosene

The extraction of neodymium（III） from acidic nitrate medium was investigated using Cyanex 921 as extractant in kerosene. The metal concentration in the aqueous phase before and after extraction was determined spectrophotometrically by Arsenazo III method. The complete equilibration was achieved in 15 rain. The effects of shaking time, nitric acid concentration, nitrate concentration, extractant concen- tration, and temperature on the extraction were studied. The extraction of nd（III） was found to increase very slowly with increase in concen- tration of HNO3 in the range of 0.001-3.008 mol/L and then decreased when 0.01 mol/L HNO3 was used. The percentage of extraction was increased with increase in nitrate concentration from 0.01M）.45 mol/L and then decreased when nitrate concentration increased to 0.5 mol/L. Quantitative extraction of nd（III）（98%） was obtained from the aqueous phase containing 0.001 mol/L HNO3 and 0.1 mol/L KNO3 using 0.5 mol/L Cyanex 921. On the basis of slope analysis, the extracted complex in the organic phase was proposed to be nd（NO3）3.2Cyanex 921. The extraction of nd（III） was found to increase with increase in concentration of metal ion in the range of 0.0014）.05 mol/L from 0.001 mol/L HNO3 and 0.1 mol/L KNO3 with 0.1 mol/L Cyanex 921. The percentage of extraction of neodymium was found to decrease with in- crease in temperature. From temperature variation studies, the negative value of AH indicated the extraction reaction to be exothermic and the negative value of AS indicated the formation of a stable complex, Almost 100% nd（III） was recovered from the fully loaded organic phase using 0.002 mol/L H2SO4 and 0.01 mol/L HCl.

All attempts to prepare light lanthanide dicyclopeutadienyt chloride failed,due to the disproportionation reaction. The crystal complex of [（η5-C5H5）***4H8]2 was successfully prepared by the reaction of ndCl3·2C4H8O with cyclopentadienyl sodium （molar ratio 1:1.8）in tetrahydrofuran at room temperatureThe composition of the title compound was determined by the methods of elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy and photoelectron spectroscopy. The crystal structure of [（η5-C5H5）2ndCl·OC4H8]2 was determined from single crystal X-ray diffraction. Data were collected at-60℃ under dry nitrogen *** complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c,with Z=2. Lattice parameters are: a=8.201（3）, b=21.589（6）,c=8.596（3）,β=109.10（3）°.The structure was solved by Patterson and Fourier techniques and refined by least-squares to a final conventional R=0.0636 for 1680 reflections. Electric characteristics of nd_2O_3 doped BaTiO_3 ceramics

nd2O3 doped BaTiO3ceramics（the additive content was respectively 0.001, 0.002, 0.003, 0.005, 0.01 molar ratio）were prepared by Sol-Gel method to study their dielectric characteristics and electric conductivities through X-ray photoelectron spectrum （XPS）. The results showed that the dielectric characteristics of nd2O3 doped BaTiO3 ceramics were improved by doping. When nd2O3 content was 0.003 mol, the results were even better, the dielectric constant was increased, the dielectric loss was decreased, the Curie-temperature （Tc） was 110 ℃, and the frequency characteristic was also good. The resistivity of nd2O3 doped BaTiO3 ceramics was lower than that of pure BaTiO3 ceramics, when nd2O3 content was 0.001 mol,the resistivity was （2.364×）108 Ω·m, the smallest. The grain resistance of nd2O3 doped BaTiO3 ceramics exhibited NTC effect, but the grain boundary resistance showed PTC effect, and the grain boundary resistance was larger than that of the grain resistance, so the PTC effect originated from the grain boundary. The analysis of the element binding energy through X-ray photoelectron spectrum were indicated that the quantivalence of Ba2+and Ti4+in nd2O3 doped BaTiO3 ceramics was variable, and resulted in the improvement of the conductibility of BaTiO3 ceramics.

Syntheses and Characterization of Homochiral Three- dimensional Lanthanide-organic Frameworks Based on Ln_4O_4 Clusters and L-Aspartic Acid

Four isostructural lanthanide compounds formulated as {[Ln4（μ3-OH）4（L-asp）3- （H2O）10]（ClO4）5·10H2O}n （Ln=nd （1）, Sm （2）, Eu （3）, Gd （4）; asp=aspartic acid） were synthe- sized by a conventional solution reaction. Their structures were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses （EA）. It reveals that they crystallize in the chiral P212121 space group. Their structures feature a homochiral three-dimensional （3D） lan- thanide-organic framework, which contains a cubic [Ln4（μ3-OH）4]8＋ cluster sub-building unit （SBU）. Additionally, the photoluminescence property of Eu compound was investigated in the solid-state at room temperature.

Abnormal aggregation of amyloid proteins is the key pathological event occurring in different Neurodegenerative diseases（nd）.Numerous evidences have shown that the structural diversity,so-called polymorphism,is decisive to the amyloid pathology and is closely associated with the onset,progression,and phenotype of *** how could one protein form so many stable structures?In this talk,I will introduce our recent studies on amyloid aggregation of α-synuclein（α-syn） which is closely associated with Parkinson’s disease（PD）.Our works reveal that different factors including familial mutations,post-translational modifications,and noncovalent cofactor may induce the formation of amyloid fibrils with a high variety of different structures with different neurotoxicity.I will further discuss how different fibril structures determine their distinct pathology under disease conditions.

Effects of thickness and annealing condition on magnetic properties and thermal stabilities of Ta/nd/ndFeB/nd/Ta sandwiched films

Ta/nd/ndFeB/nd/Ta sandwiched films are deposited by magnetron sputtering on Si（100） substrates,and subsequently annealed in vacuum at different temperatures for different *** is found that both the thickness of ndFeB and nd layer and the annealing condition can affect the magnetic properties of Ta/nd/ndFeB/nd/Ta ***,the thickness and annealing temperature show the relevant behaviors that can affect the magnetic properties of the *** high coercivity of 24.1 kOe（1 Oe = 79.5775 A/m） and remanence ratio（remanent magnetization/saturation magnetization）of 0.94 can be obtained in a Ta/nd（250 nm）/ndFeB（600 nm）/nd（250 nm）/Ta film annealed for 3 min at 1023 *** addition,the thermal stability of the film is also linked to the thickness of ndFeB and nd layer and the annealing temperature as *** excellent thermal stability can be achieved in a Ta/nd（250 nm）/ndFeB（600 nm）/nd（250 nm）/Ta film annealed at1023 K.

Synthesis and Characterization of Eu_4(PMA)_3(phen)_(0.75)·7H_2O Ternary Luminescent Complex

Eu(Ⅲ)-Pyromellitic acid[PMA]-1, 10-phenanthroline (phen) ternary luminescent complex was prepared in ethanol and water mixed solvent. The elemental analysis, inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES) fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) indicates that its chemical constitution is Eu4( PMA)3( phen)0.75·7H2O. TG-DTA curves indicated that the complex is heat stable at the temperature of 430℃. The XRD patterns showed that the complex is a new crystal different from the two ligands' structures. SEM image indicates that the complex is in block shape and disperses well. Photoluminescence (PL) analysis indicates that the complex emits Eu3+ characteristic luminescence under ultraviolet excitation.

Systematic study of nd^(3+) on structural properties of ZnO nanocomposite for biomedical applications; in-vitro biocompatibility,bioactivity, photoluminescence and antioxidant properties

Owing to the inconformity in ionic radius between nd^(3+) and Zn^(2+), the successful incorporation of nd^(3+) ion into the ZnO nanocrystals still remains a great challenge. In the present study various doping ratios containing 1 wt%, 5 wt%, 7 wt% and 10 wt% of nd^(3+) doped ZnO nanoparticles(nd/ZnO NPs) were synthesized in which a bio-layer caped the NPs. SEM/EDX analysis was performed on the ZnO and nd/ZnO NPs. In addition, the as-synthesized NPs were characterized using X-ray diffraction(XRD), dynamic light scattering(DLS), differential reflectance spectroscopy(DRS) and photoluminescence(PL) *** average size of nd(5 wt%)/ZnO NPs was in the range of 6.22 and 15 e18 nm based on XRD and SEM techniques, respectively. The measured band gap values for pure ZnO and nd/ZnO NCs with doping ratios of 1 wt%, 5 wt%, 7 wt% and 9 wt% were equal to 3.46, 3.26, 3.05, 3.25 and 3.29, respectively. After inhalation, nanoparticles first interact with lung surfactant system and accordingly their toxic effects will appear on lungs cells such as A549 cell line. The effect of nd/ZnO NPs to interact by human A549 cell line was evaluated by means of cell viability test. According to cell viability test the concentrations of 0.3 and 0.5 mg/mL of nd/ZnO NPs induce a low toxicity. The present study shows that these toxic effects of nd/ZnO NPs can be rectified by capping its surface via the addition of a bio-layer around particles in order to prevent them from interacting A549 cell line.
