Lower extremity injury in female basketball players is related to a large difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod conditions

Background： The majority of injuries reported in female basketball players are ankle sprains and mechanisms leading to injury have been debated. Investigations into muscular imbalances in barefoot versus shod conditions and their relationship with injury severity have not been performed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of wearing athletic shoes on muscular strength and its relationship to lower extremity injuries, specifically female basketball players due to the high incidence of ankle injuries in this population. Methods： During pre-season, 11 female collegiate basketball players underwent inversion and eversion muscle strength testing using an iso- kinetic dynamometer in both a barefoot and shod conditions. The difference between conditions was calculated for inversion and eversion peak torque, time to peak torque as well as eversion-to-inversion peak torque percent strength ratio for both conditions. Lower extremity injuries were documented and ranked in severity. The ranked difference between barefoot and shod conditions for peak torque and time to peak torque as well as percent strength ratio was correlated with injury ranking using a Spearman rho correlation （p） with an a level of 0.05. Results： The ranked differences in barefoot and shod for peak eversion and inversion torque at 120°/s were correlated with their injury ranking. Ranking of the athletes based on the severity of injuries that were sustained during the season was found to have a strong, positive relationship with the difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod （p = 0.78; p = 0.02）. Conclusion： It is possible that a large discrepancy between strength in barefoot and shod conditions can predispose an athlete to injury. Nar- rowing the difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod could decrease propensity to injury. Future work should investigate the effect of restoration of muscular strength during barefoot and shod exercise on injury rates

OBJECTIVE： The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of constraint-induced movement therapy in acute and sub-acute stroke. DATA SOURCES： The key words were stroke, cerebrovascular accident, constraint-induced therapy, forced use, and randomized controlled trial. The databases, including China National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang, Weipu Information Resources System, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, PubMed, Med- line, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, were searched for studies on randomized controlled trials for treating acute or sub-acute stroke published before March 2016. DATA SELECTION： We retrieved relevant randomized controlled trials that compared constraint-induced movement therapy in treatment of acute or sub-acute stroke with traditional rehabilitation therapy （tradi- tional occupational therapy）. Patients were older than 18 years, had disease courses less than 6 months, and were evaluated with at least one upper extremity function scale. Study quality was evaluated, and data that met the criteria were extracted. Stata 11.0 software was used for the meta-analysis. OUTCOME MEASURES： Fugl-meyer motor assessment of the arm, the action research-arm test, a motor activity log for amount of use and quality of movement, the Wolf motor function test, and a modified Bar- thel index. RESULTS： A total of 16 prospective randomized controlled trials （379 patients in the constraint-induced movement-therapy group and 359 in the control group） met inclusion criteria. Analysis showed significant mean differences in favor of constraint-induced movement therapy for the Fugl-meyer motor assessment of the arm （weighted mean difference （WMD） = 10.822; 95% confidence intervals （95% CI）： 7.419-14.226）, the action research-arm test （WMD = 10.718; 95% CI： 5.704-15.733）, the motor activity log for amount of use and quality of movement （WMD = 0.812; 95% CI： 0.331-1.293） and

The effect of combined low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation（LF r TMS） and virtual reality（VR） training in patients after stroke was assessed. In a double-blind randomized controlled trial, 112 patients with hemiplegia after stroke were randomly divided into two groups： experimental and control. In experimental group, the patients received LF r TMS and VR training treatment, and those in control group received sham r TMS and VR training treatment. Participants in both groups received therapy of 6 days per week for 4 weeks. The primary endpoint including the upper limb motor function test of Fugl-meyer assessment（U-FMA） and wolf motor function test（WMFT）, and the secondary endpoint including modified Barthel index（MBI） and 36-item Short Form Health Survey Questionnaire（SF-36） were assessed before and 4 weeks after treatment. Totally, 108 subjects completed the study（55 in experimental group and 53 in control group respectively）. After 4-week treatment, the U-FMA scores [mean difference of 13.2, 95% confidence interval（CI） 3.6 to 22.7, P〈0.01], WMFT scores（mean difference of 2.9, 95% CI 2.7 to 12.3, P〈0.01）, and MBI scores（mean difference 16.1, 95% CI 3.8 to 9.4, P〈0.05） were significantly increased in the experimental group as compared with the control group. The results suggested the combined use of LF r TMS with VR training could effectively improve the upper limb function, the living activity, and the quality of life in patients with hemiplegia following subacute stroke, which may provide a better rehabilitation treatment for subacute stroke.

The potential impacts of climate change on the Great Hungarian Plain based on two regional climate models,REMO and ALADIN,were analyzed using indicators for environmental *** the climate parameters(temperature,precipitation,and wind)will change in the two investigated periods(2021–2050 and 2071–2100),their influences on drought,wind erosion,and inland excess water hazards are modeled by simple predictive *** hazards on arable lands will increasingly affect the productivity of agriculture compared to the reference period(1961–1990).The models predict an increase between 12.3%(REMO)and 20%(ALADIN)in the first period,and between 35.6%(REMO)and 45.2%(ALADIN)in the second *** increase of wind erosion hazards is not as obvious(+15%for the first period in the REMO model).Inland excess water hazards are expected to be slightly reduced(-4 to 0%)by both model predictions in the two periods without showing a clear tendency on *** three indicators together give a first regional picture of potential hazards of climate *** predictive model and data combinations of the regional climate change models and the hazard assessment models provide insights into regional and subregional impacts of climate change and will be useful in planning and land management activities.

Background: Glycogenic hepatopathy(GH) is a disorder associated with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus,most commonly type 1, expressed as right upper quadrant abdominal pain, hepatomegaly and increased liver enzymes. The diagnosis may be difficult, because laboratory and imaging tests are not pathognomonic. Although GH may be suggested based on clinical presentation and imaging studies, the gold standard for diagnosis is a liver biopsy, showing a significant accumulation of glycogen within the hepatocytes. GH may be diagnosed also after elevated liver enzymes in routine blood tests. GH usually regresses after tight glycemic control. Progression to end-stage liver disease has never been reported. This review aims to increase the awareness to this disease, to suggest a pathway for investigation that may reduce the use of unnecessary tests, especially invasive *** sources: A Pub Med database search(up to July 1, 2017) was done with the words "glycogenic hepatopathy", "hepatic glycogenosis", "liver glycogenosis" and "diabetes mellitus-associated glycogen storage hepatopathy". Articles in which diabetes mellitus-associated liver glycogen accumulation was described were included in this ***: A total of 47 articles were found, describing 126 patients with GH. Hepatocellular disturbance was more profound than cholestatic disturbance. No synthetic failure was ***: GH may be diagnosed conservatively, based on corroborating medical history, physical examination, laboratory tests, imaging studies and response to treatment, even without liver biopsy. In case of doubt about the diagnosis or lack of clinical response to treatment, a liver biopsy may be *** is no role for noninvasive tests like fibroscan or fibrotest for the diagnosis of GH or for differentiation of this situation from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Purpose: In this project, we developed novel methods to quantify changes in tumor hypoxia following a mild tempera-ture hyperthermia (MTH) treatment in rat HT29 human colon adenocarcinoma xenograft. Materials and Methods: An exogenous hypoxia marker (IAZGP) was labeled with two radioisotopes of iodine (131I and 123I, respectively) to form two distinct tracers. The two tracers were injected into HT29-bearing nude rats 4-hour before and immediately following 41.5℃, 45-minute mild hyperthermia treatment. The distributions of the two hypoxia tracers were obtained by performing digital autoradiography on tumor sections, and image processing resulted in quantitative information at 50 μm pixel size. Results: Following the hyperthermia treatment, there was a remarkable decrease in hypoxia tracer binding. The average whole tumor hypoxia tracer targeted fraction in five animals changed from 30.3% ± 9.7% to 13.0% ± 5.3% after the hyperthermia treatment (P = 0.001). Detailed pixelby-pixel analysis of the image data revealed a decline in hypoxia tracer uptake after hyperthermia in most regions. However, there was concomitant emergence of some new regions of hypoxia identified by increased tracer uptake. In the control group, the overall hypoxia tracer targeted fraction remained almost constant, with some hypoxic tracer redistribution (putative acute hypoxia) observed. Conclusion: Reoxygenation occurred in the rat HT29 xenograft following MTH treatment. This was evident with preponderance of decreased hypoxia specific tracer uptake on tumor sections. Our methodology might be a useful tool in hypoxia study.

BACKGROUND： The pain of knee joint in the paralyzed leg of hemiplegic patients after stroke will affect the training of standing and walking, and delay the proceeding of rehabilitation. OBJECTIVE： To investigate the effective method for relieving pain of knee osteoarthritis and improving the function of lower limbs in hemiplegic patients after stroke. DESIGN： A randomized controlled study. SETTING： department of Rehabilitation and physical Medicine, Anhui Provincial Corps Hospital, Chinese People＇s Armed Police Forces. PARTICIPANTS： Twenty-eight hemiplegic patients after stroke with knee osteoarthritis were selected from the department of Rehabilitation and physical Medicine, Anhui Provincial Corps Hospital, Chinese People＇s Armed Police Forces from January 2003 to December 2006, including 11 males and 17 females, aged 47 - 77 years, they all conformed to the diagnostic criteria of stroke set by the Fourth National Academic Meeting for Cerebrovascular Disease in 1995, as well as the diagnostic standards of knee osteoarthritis. Informed consents were obtained from all the patients and their relatives. METHODS： The 28 patients were randomly divided into treatment group （n =14） and control group （n -14）. All patients had received facilitative technique training, such as normal motor pattern exercising and knee joint control exercising after hospitalization, besides, the patients in the treatment group received an extra complex therapy of electro-acupuncture therapy, physical therapy and exercise therapy, once a day, and 10 days as a course. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： The evaluation and effectiveness of the visual analogue scale （VAS） and Fugl-meyer Assessment （FMA） score of lower limbs function before and after therapy in the two groups. The physical-mechanical,chemical,and durability characteristics of alkali-activated materials(AAMs)have been widely ***,a critical gap in the literature is the lack of a comprehensive overview of recently published literature regarding the life cycle assessment(LCA)of these *** study aims to fill that gap by conducting a systematic literature review of globally published literature on the *** paper consolidates knowledge by searching different databases,focusing on LCA studies that used AAMs as pastes,mortars,concretes,bricks,and rammed earth/soil *** selected articles were reviewed and categorized based on precursors,alkaline activators,functional units,system boundaries,life cycle inventory databases,allocation,impact methodologies,and software ***,this paper also critically analyzes the key challenges of LCA for *** major challenges were identified as selecting a functional unit,subjectivity in boundary systems,and data *** work concludes that AAMs show substantial advantages in global warming potential compared to ordinary Portland cement-based materials;however,the average of other categories such as marine ecotoxicity and ozone layer depletion has been reported to be higher than for the reference samples.
