Correlation of work function and stacking fault energy through Kelvin probe force microscopy and nanohardness in diluteα-magnesium

Electronic interactions of the Group 2A elements with magnesium have been studied through the dilute solid solutions in binary Mg-Ca,Mg-Sr and Mg-Ba *** investigation incorporated the difference in the‘Work Function'(ΔWF)measured via Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy(KPFM),as a property directly affected by interatomic bond types,*** electronic structure,nanoindentation measurements,and Stacking Fault Energy values reported in the *** was shown that the nano-hardness of the solid-solutionα-Mg phase changed in the order of Mg-Ca>Mg-Sr>***,it was shown,by also considering the nano-hardness levels,that SFE of a solid-solution is closely correlated with its‘Work Function'***-hardness measurements on the eutectics andΔWF difference between eutectic phases enabled an assessment of the relative bond strength and the pertinent electronic structures of the eutectics in the three *** withΔWF and at least qualitative verification of those computed SFE values with some experimental measurement techniques were considered important as those computational methods are based on zero Kelvin degree,relatively simple atomic models and a number of *** asserted by this investigation,if the results of measurement techniques can be qualitatively correlated with those of the computational methods,it can be possible to evaluate the electronic structures in alloys,starting from binary systems,going to ternary and then multi-elemental *** investigation has shown that such a qualitative correlation is *** all,the SFE values are not treated as absolute values but rather become essential in comparative investigations when assessing the influences of alloying elements at a fundamental level,that is,free electron density *** study indicated that the principles of‘electronic metallurgy'in developing multi-elemental alloy systems can be followed via practical experimental methods,i.e.ΔWF measurements using KPF

Spectral-based Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis for Fethiye,mugla

Fethiye is an important region located in the eastern part of the Mediterranean *** region which is the most active part of the south-western Anatolia extensional tectonic regime,has been effected by earthquakes,submarine landslides and tsunamis throughout the history due to the existence of the complex active plate boundary *** active area has been exposed to ground motion that had the potential to damage vulnerable ***,a detailed assessment of seismic hazard is necessary for the prevention of potential *** this context,probabilistic seismic hazard analysis is performed by R-CRISIS-18.3 using the refined parameters computed from Seismic Hazard Harmonization for Europe(SHARE)*** distribution of spectral acceleration at T=0.2 s and T=1.0 s for the earthquake levels that corresponds to the average return period of 72,475 and 2475 years is *** curves for the central region of Fethiye district are *** results are discussed and compared with the values obtained from the Revision of Turkish Seismic Hazard Map Project(UDAP-C-13-06).These local results of probabilistic seismic hazard analysis will provide the basis for the preparation of seismic risk maps as future work.

Effects of obstructive sleep apnea on retinal microvasculature

AIM:To detect retinal microvascular variations in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome ***:This prospective,observational case-control study included healthy controls and patients with mild,moderate,and severe obstructive sleep apnea *** parameters,foveal avascular area,and flow areas in macula-centered,6.00×6.00 mm2 scan size optical coherence tomography angiography images were ***:The control group had the highest whole image,parafoveal,and perifoveal vessel density among the groups in both superficial and the deep capillary plexus(all P<0.05).Rapid eye movement sleep apnoea-hypopnoea index was reversely correlated with whole(Rho=-0.195,P=0.034),parafoveal(Rho=-0.242,P=0.008),perifoveal(Rho=-0.187,P=0.045)vessel density in the superficial capillary plexus,and whole(Rho=-0.186,P=0.046),parafoveal(Rho=-0.260,P=0.004),perifoveal(Rho=-0.189,P=0.043)vessel density in the deep capillary plexus,though the mean and non-rapid eye movement sleep apnoeahypopnoea index related with only parafoveal vessel density in the superficial capillary plexus(Rho=-0.213,P=0.020;Rho=-0.191,P=0.038)and the deep capillary plexus(Rho=-0.254,P=0.005;Rho=-0.194,P=0.035).CONCLUSION:This study shows decreased vessel density and its reverse correlation with the apnoea-hypopnoea index in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

The Importance of Marmaris Tourism Industry on Development and the Causes That Influence the Russian Tourists Coming to Marmaris

Turkey, thanks to its natural and cultural tourism resources, is an international tourism destination characterized by intense mobility. The purpose of this study, to determine the contribution of the tourism sector in the country＇s economy and Russian tourist profile, was examined and investigated. Survey data collection techniques were used in the study. National and international researches were supported by literature. In this study, it was aimed to determine the role and the importance of Marmaris in the development of tourism in economy. It was also aimed to determine the cause of Russian tourists preferring Marmaris. The 12 questions in the questionnaire are to determine the demographic and travel characteristics, four questions are to determine the resources of accommodation and information of Russian tourists, and the questionnaire was completed with a question which was asked to determine the reason of preferring Marmaris, It was graded with the five-point Likert scale. The results of the study show the profile of Russian tourists who prefer Marmaris. It was examined that they have come up with all-inclusive system, they have two-week holiday term, they gather information through travel agencies, and Marmaris has an intensive revisit frequency. Marmaris is expressed as a great holiday destination by Russian tourists. Accordingly, Marmaris is popular among Russian tourists as a tourist destination and is considered to be quite suitable for the holidays.

Late Pleistocene Calcretes from Central Anatolia(Lakes Eymir and Mogan, G?lba?? Basin): Comparison to Quaternary Calcretes from Turkey

This study is the first to report the radiocarbon ages, mineralogical, morphological, geochemical and stable isotope compositions of calcretes from Neogene sediments around lakes Eymir and Mogan in the G？lba？？ Basin of Central Anatolia. Morphologically different forms of calcretes in the G？lba？？ Basin include powdery, nodular, fracture infill, laminar and hardpan types. Calcite is the dominant mineral of calcrete compositions; the diagnostic features of dessication cracks, random fractures, Mn O linings and dense sparitic infillings are observed. Chemical analyses show arid conditions with mean annual precipitation of 〈50 mm. δ13C compositions of the calcretes range from-6.77‰ to-9.32‰ PDB, typical for most pedogenic calcretes, reflecting the development under seasonally arid climates and C3-dominated vegetation cover. δ18O values are between-5.57‰ and-7.80‰ PDB, indicating the formation from meteoric water in a vadose zone environment. The results suggest that the Middle Pleistocene was arider and warmer, favouring the formation of palygorskite in association with the different forms of calcrete occurrences, whereas the Late Pleistocene was dryer and cooler, supporting the development of calcretes.

Anisotropy effect on strengths of metamorphic rocks

This paper aims to study the effect of anisotropy on strengths of several metamorphic rocks of southern(Cine) submassif of Menderes metamorphic massif in southwest Turkey. Four different metamorphic rocks including foliated phyllite, schist, gneiss and marble(calcschist) were selected and *** surveys were made along lines for each rock and evaluated with DIPS program. L-type Schmidt hammer was applied in the directions parallel and perpendicular to foliation during the field study. Several hand samples and rock blocks were collected during the field study for measurements of dry and saturated densities, dry and saturated unit weights and porosity, and for petrographic analysis and strength determination in laboratory. L-and N-type Schmidt hammers were applied in the directions perpendicular(anisotropy angle of 0°) and parallel(anisotropy angle of 90) to the foliation on selected blocks of phyllite, schist, gneiss and marble(calcschist). The phyllite and schist have higher porosity and lower density values than the other rocks. However, coarse crystalline gneiss and marble(calcschist) have higher rebound values and strengths, and they are classified as strong-very strong rocks. Generally, the rebound values in the direction perpendicular to the foliation are slightly higher than that in the direction parallel to foliation. Rebound values of N-type Schmidt hammer are higher than the L-type values except for phyllite. Sometimes, the rebound values of laboratory and field applications gave different results. This may result from variable local conditions such as minerals differentiation,discontinuities, water content, weathering degree and thickness of foliated structure.

Interest Rate Volatility Regimes in Selected Asian Countries:A Univariate Markov Switching Analysis

Business cycle dynamics are determined by relatively large volatilities in output,consumption,and investment,which leads to cyclical fluctuations in interest *** the Markov switching model,we model the nominal interest rate movements to explain the volatility regime shifts in a set of selected emerging Asian *** estimated results provide significant evidence of regime-dependent means,variances,and probabilities in both stable and volatile regimes in selected countries,confirming the existence of two distinct regimes in nominal interest rate *** addition,the smoothed probability results of switching autoregressive model show that the model is capable of capturing the two regimes for the corresponding nominal interest rate ***,the results reveal that the stables regimes have higher durations than the volatile *** study also shows the advantage of Markov switching models over conventional regression models,allowing the identification of different regimes for the cyclical behavior of interest rates.

Thermal properties of pressureless melt infiltrated AlN-Si-Al composites

Thermal properties of AlN-Si-Al composites produced by pressureless melt infiltration of Al/Al alloys into porous a-Si3N4 preforms were investigated in a temperature range of 50-300 °C. SEM and TEM investigations revealed that the grain size of AlN particles was less than 1 μm. In spite of sub-micron grain size, composites showed relatively high thermal conductivity （TC）, 55-107 W/（m·K）. The thermal expansion coefficient （CTE） of the composite produced with commercial Al source, which has the highest TC of 107 W/（m·K）, was 6.5×10-6 K-1. Despite the high CTE of Al （23.6×10-6 K-1）, composites revealed significantly low CTE through the formation of Si and AlN phases during the infiltration process.
