The unfolded protein response(UPR)is a cellular stress response pathway activated when the endoplasmic reticulum,a crucial organelle for protein folding and modification,encounters an accumulation of unfolded or misfolded *** UPR aims to restore endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis by enhancing protein folding capacity,reducing protein biosynthesis,and promoting protein *** also plays a pivotal role in coordinating signaling cascades to determine cell fate and function in response to endoplasmic reticulum *** research has highlighted the significance of the UPR not only in maintaining endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis but also in influencing various physiological processes in the nervous ***,we provide an overview of recent findings that underscore the UPR’s involvement in preserving the function and viability of neuronal and myelinating cells under physiological conditions,and highlight the critical role of the UPR in brain development,memory storage,retinal cone development,myelination,and maintenance of myelin thickness.

Activation of the unfolded protein response in response to endoplasmic reticulum stress preserves cell viability and function under stressful ***,persistent,unresolvable activation of the unfolded protein response can trigger apoptosis to eliminate stressed *** studies show that the unfolded protein response plays an important role in the pathogenesis of various disorders of myelin,including multiples sclerosis,Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease,Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease,vanishing white matter disease,spinal cord injury,tuberous sclerosis complex,and hypoxia-induced perinatal white matter *** this review we summarize the current literature on the unfolded protein response and the evidence for its role in the pathogenesis of myelin disorders.

This paper provides a review of the general experimental methodology of snow-powered flow visualization and super-large-scale particle image velocimetry(SLPIV),the corresponding field deployments and major scientific findings from our work on a 2.5 MW utility-scale wind turbine at the Eolos field *** field measurements were conducted to investigate the incoming flow in the induction zone and the near-wake flows from different *** has been shown that these snow-powered measurements can provide sufficient spatiotemporal resolution and fields of view to characterize both qualitatively and quantitatively the incoming flow,all the major coherent structures generated by the turbine(e.g.,blade,nacelle and tower vortices,etc.)as well as the development and interaction of these structures in the near *** work has further revealed several interesting behaviors of near-wake flows(e.g.,wake contraction,dynamic wake modulation,meandering and deflection of the nacelle wake,etc.),and their connections with constantly-changing inflows and turbine operation,which are uniquely associated with utility-scale *** findings have demonstrated that the near wake flows,though highly complex,can be predicted with substantial statistical confidence using supervisory control and data acquisition(SCADA)and structural response information readily available from current utility-scale *** knowledge can be potentially incorporated into wake development models and turbine controllers for wind farm optimization in the future.

Consider the problem of minimizing the sum of two convex functions,one being smooth and the other *** this paper,we introduce a general class of approximate proximal splitting(APS)methods for solving such minimization *** in the APS class include many well-known algorithms such as the proximal splitting method,the block coordinate descent method(BCD),and the approximate gradient projection methods for smooth convex *** establish the linear convergence of APS methods under a local error bound *** the latter is known to hold for compressive sensing and sparse group LASSO problems,our analysis implies the linear convergence of the BCD method for these problems without strong convexity assumption.

The introduction of flows within sessile droplets is highly effective for many lab-on-a-chip chemical and biomedical ***,generating such flows is difficult due to the typically small droplet ***,we present a simple,non-contact strategy to generate internal flows in sessile droplets for enhancing mixing and mass *** flows are driven by actuating a rigid substrate into oscillation with certain amplitude distributions without relying on the resonance of the droplet *** oscillation characteristics and corresponding flow patterns are documented *** indices and mass transfer coefficients of sessile droplets on the substrate surface are measured using optical and electrochemical *** demonstrate complete mixing within the droplets in 1.35 s and increases in mass transfer rates of more than seven times static *** of concept was conducted with experiments of silver nanoparticle synthesis and with heavy metal ion sensing employing the sessile droplet as a microreactor for synthesis and an electrochemical cell for *** degrees of enhancement of synthesis efficiency and detection sensitivity attributed to the internal flows are experimentally documented.
