Analysis of temperature time series based on Hilbert-Huang Transform

In this paper, with consideration of the nonlinear and non-stationary properties of the temperature time series, we employ the Hilbert-Huang Transform, based on the empirical mode decomposition（EMD）, to analyze the temperature time series from 1959 to 2012 in the Fengxian district of shanghai, obtained from a certain monitoring station. The oscillating mode is drawn from the data, and its characteristics of the time series are investigated. The results show that the intrinsic modes of 1, 2 and 6 represent the periodic properties of 1 year, 2.5 years, and 27 years. The mean temperature shows periodic variations, but the main trend of this fluctuation is the rising of the temperature in the recent 50 years. The analysis of the reconstructed modes with the wave pattern shows that the variations are quite large from 1963 to 1964, from 1977 to 1982 and from 2003 to 2006, which indicates that the temperature rises and falls dramatically in these periods. The volatility from 1993 to 1994 is far more dramatic than in other periods. And the volatility is the most remarkable in recent 50 years. The log-linear plots of the mean time scales T and M show that each mode associated with a time scale almost twice as large as the time scale of the preceding mode. The Hilbert spectrum shows that the energy is concentrated in the range of low frequency from 0.05 to 0.1 Hz, and a very small amount of energy is distributed in the range of higher frequency over 0.1 Hz. In conclusion, the HHT is better than other traditional signal analysis methods in processing the nonlinear signals to obtain the periodic variation and volatility＇s properties of different time scales.

shanghai experienced the longest rainy days in 2018/2019 winter since 1988. The physical cause of such an unusual climate condition was investigated through the diagnosis of observational data. From a seasonal perspective, a long persistent rainy winter was often associated with an El Ni?o condition in the equatorial Pacific. This abnormal oceanic condition induces a remote teleconnection pattern with pronounced low-level southerly anomalies over East *** wind anomalies transported moisture from tropical oceans and caused persistent rainfall in East Asia. Meanwhile, the local rainfall time series exhibited a strong quasi-biweekly oscillation (QBWO). Three persistent rainy events were identified in the 2018/2019 winter and they all occurred during the active phase of the QBWO. The first two events were associated with a low pressure anomaly west of shanghai. Southerly anomalies associated with the low pressure system advected high mean moisture into central eastern China, leading to the persistent rainfall *** third event was associated with a high pressure anomaly in lower troposphere to the east of shanghai, which induced anomalous southerlies to its west, favoring the occurrence of rainfall in shanghai. The result suggests the importance of high-frequency variability in affecting seasonal rainfall anomalies.

The daily outgoing longwave radiation(OLR)field in boreal summer shows significant power spectrum peaks on quasi-biweekly(10–20-day)and intraseasonal(20–80-day)timescales over the Indo–western Pacific warm pool,especially over the South China Sea and Bay of *** quasi-biweekly oscillation(QBWO)originates from offequatorial western North Pacific,and is characterized by a northwest–southeast oriented wave train pattern,propagating *** intraseasonal oscillation(ISO),on the other hand,originates from the equatorial Indian Ocean and propagates eastward and *** the equatorial mode possesses a 20–80-day periodicity while the off-equatorial mode favors a 10–20-day periodicity is investigated through idealized numerical experiments with a 2.5-layer atmospheric *** the off-equatorial region,the model simulates,under a realistic three-dimensional summer mean flow,the most unstable mode that has a wave train pattern with a typical zonal wavelength of 6000 km and a period of 10–20 days,propagating *** is in contrast to the equatorial region,where a Madden–Julian oscillation(MJO)like mode with a planetary(wavenumber-1)zonal scale and a period ranging from 20 to 80 days is *** experiments with different initial conditions indicate that the QBWO is an intrinsic mode of the atmosphere in boreal summer in the off-equatorial Indo–western Pacific region under the summer mean state,while the MJO is the most unstable mode in the equatorial region.

Given extensive and rapid urbanization globally,assessing regional urban thermal effects(UTE)in both canopy and boundary layers under extreme weather/climate conditions is of significant *** population and economic growth in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD)have made it one of the largest city clusters in ***,we explore the three-dimensional(3D)UTE in the YRD using multi-source observations from high-resolution automatic weather stations,radiosondes,and eddy covariance sensors during the record-setting heat wave(HW)of July-August *** is found that the regional canopy layer UTE is up to 0.6-1.2℃,and the nocturnal UTE(0.7-1.6℃)is larger than daytime UTE(0.2-0.5℃)during the *** regional canopy layer UTE is enhanced and expanded northwards,with some rural sites contaminated by the urban influences,especially at *** the boundary layer,the strengthened regional UTE extends vertically to at least 925 hPa(~750 m)during this *** strengthened 3D UTE in the YRD is associated with an enlarged Bowen ratio difference between urban and non-urban *** findings about the 3D UTE are beneficial for better understanding of the thermal environment of large city clusters under HW and for more appropriate adaption and mitigation strategies.

Therapeutic Effect Observation on Combining Electroacupuncture and Tuina for Migraine

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of combining electroacupuncture and local tuina for migraine. Methods: A total of 94 migraine cases were randomly allocated into an observation group and a medication group, 48 cases in each group. Electroacupuncture and local tuina were used for cases in the observation group, whereas oral Flunarizine Hydrochloride capsules were used for cases in the medication group. Then the frequency of attacks, severity of the pain, duration of the headache, and associated symptoms of headache before and after treatment in the two groups were observed and compared. Results: The total effective rate in the observation group was 93.8%, versus 63.0% in the medication group, showing a statistical significant difference(P < 0.05). There were statistical significant differences in frequency of attacks, severity of the pain, duration of the headache and associated symptoms between the two groups(P<0.05). In addition, there were statistical significant differences in relapse rates after 4 and 8 weeks of treatment(P<0.05). Conclusion: Combining electroacupuncture and local tuina can obtain better effect and lower relapse rate than oral Flunarizine Hydrochloride capsules in migraine patients.

Objective:The minhang district of shanghai was selected as the subject and its public health management model was ***:minhang became a pilot location for the implementation of the general practitioner responsibility system(GPRS)in *** then,the management model of public health services in the district has gradually merged with the GPRS through a series of actions:the adjustment of organizations and the coordination mechanism in community public health services,the integration of basic public health services and clinic practice,the establishment of an informationized Internet service platform,comprehensive budgeting management of public health service programs,and performance assessment management of health ***:By the end of 2014,the number of residents who had a contractual relationship with a general practitioner(GP)in minhang had reached 1.4367 million and all of them had family health *** with 2010,both the rate of maternal management and the rate of children management stayed at high level(≥96%),the rate of hypertension management increased(40.73%vs.28.70%),the rate of blood pressure control increased(82.13%vs.77.51%),the incidence of diabetes decreased(21.93%vs.37.85%),the rate of effective control of blood glucose for dia-betic patients increased(82.43%vs.62.77%),and the rate of child health management increased(99.79%vs.91.54%).Conclusion:The GPRS has helped to create a better community health ***-ever,the development of this system is limited by several factors,including the following:the shortage of GPs,most GPs do not have good public health service skills and a correct public health concept,unclear division of different services,and imperfect department coordination.

High-Resolution Projections of Mean and Extreme Precipitation over China by Two Regional Climate Models

In this study, we employ two regional climate models(RCMs or RegCMs), which are RegCM4 and PRECIS(Providing Regional Climates for Impact Studies), with a horizontal grid spacing of 25 km, to simulate the precipitation dynamics across China for the baseline climate of 1981–2010 and two future climates of 2031–2060 and 2061–2090. The global climate model(GCM)—Hadley Centre Global Environment Model version 2-Earth Systems(HadGEM2-ES) is used to drive the two RCMs. The results of baseline simulations show that the two RCMs can correct the obvious underestimation of light rain below 5 mm day^-1 and the overestimation of precipitation above 5 mm day^-1 in Northwest China and the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau, as being produced by the driving GCM. While PRECIS outperforms RegCM4 in simulating annual precipitation and wet days in several sub-regions of Northwest China, its underperformance shows up in eastern China. For extreme precipitation, the two RCMs provide a more accurate simulation of continuous wet days(CWD) with reduced biases and more realistic spatial patterns compared to their driving GCM. For other extreme precipitation indices, the RCM simulations show limited benefit except for an improved performance in some localized regions. The future projections of the two RCMs show an increase in the annual precipitation amount and the intensity of extreme precipitation events in most regions. Most areas of Southeast China will experience fewer number of wet days, especially in summer, but more precipitation per wet day(≥ 30 mm day^-1). By contrast, number of wet days will increase in the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau and some areas of northern China. The increase in both the maximum precipitation for five consecutive days and the regional extreme precipitation will lead to a higher risk of increased flooding. The findings of this study can facilitate the efforts of climate service institutions and government agencies to improve climate services and to make climate-smart decisions
