BACKgROUND: Emergency medical service system (EMSS) in China is becoming more important. However, studies on mortality of emergency departments (EDs) patients in tertiary hospitals and on the trends in mortality of ED patients all over China are stagnant. The objective of this study was to quantify and describe the trends in mortality of ED patients in China. METHODS: Nine tertiary teaching hospitals were selected from tertiary teaching hospitals in different regions. The annual numbers of ED visits and deaths of these hospitals in 2004, 2009 and 2014 were recorded and analyzed. Chi-square test was used to compare the mortality of the EDs’ visits. Moreover, data on the mortality of ED patients in China from 2005 to 2015 were summarized and analyzed from the China Health and Family Planning Statistical Yearbooks (2006–2016). RESULTS: From 2004 to 2014, the overall annual mortalities in EDs increased among the tertiary hospitals (Pgions of China all decreased. In addition, the average mortality of EDs patients in northern China was obviously higher than that in southern China (Pg the past decade, which may be partly caused by some critical challenges faced by China’s EMSS, such as overcrowding and long length of stay in EDs of tertiary hospitals.

The aging population is an important issue around the world especially in developed *** med-ical advances have substantially extended life span,the same cannot be said for the duration of health *** are seeing in-creasing numbers of elderly people who are frail and/or have multiple chronic conditions;all of these can affect the quality of life of the elderly population as well as increase the burden on the healthcare *** is mechanistically related to common medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus,ischemic heart disease,cognitive decline,and frailty.A recently accepted concept termed‘Accelerated Biological Aging’can be diagnosed when a person’s biological age—as measured by biomarkers of DNA methylation—is older than their corresponding chronological ***,a conditionally essential amino acid,has received much attention in the past few years.A substantial number of animal studies have provided a strong scientific foundation sug-gesting that this amino acid can improve cellular and metabolic health,including blood glucose control,so much that it has been labelled one of the‘longevity amino acids’.In this review article,we propose the rationale that an adequately powered random-ized-controlled-trial(RCT)is needed to confirm whether taurine can meaningfully improve metabolic and microbiome health,and biological *** trial should incorporate certain elements in order to provide the much-needed evidence to guide doctors,and also the community at large,to determine whether this promising and inexpensive amino acid is useful in improving human metabolic health.

Background:Some COVID-19 patients deteriorate to severe cases with relatively higher case-fatality rates,which increases the medical *** necessitates identification of patients at risk of severe *** assessment plays a crucial role in identifying patients at risk of severe *** study is to assess the effectiveness of SUPER score as a predictor of severe COVID-19 ***:We consecutively enrolled COVID-19 patients admitted to a comprehensive medical center in Wuhan,China,and recorded clinical characteristics and laboratory *** SUPER score was calculated using pa-rameters including oxygen saturation,urine volume,pulse,emotional state,and respiratory *** addition,the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC),specificity,and sensitivity of the SUPER score for the diagnosis of severe COVID-19 were calculated and compared with the National Early Warning Score 2(NEWS2).Results:The SUPER score at admission,with a threshold of 4,exhibited good predictive performance for early identification of severe COVID-19 cases,yielding an AUC of 0.985(95%confidence interval[CI]0.897-1.000),sensitivity of 1.00(95%CI 0.715-1.000),and specificity of 0.92(95%CI 0.775-0.982),similar to NEWS2(AUC 0.984;95%CI 0.895-1.000,sensitivity 0.91;95%CI 0.587-0.998,specificity 0.97;95%CI 0.858-0.999).Com-pared with patients with a SUPER scoregh-risk group exhibited lower lymphocyte counts,interleukin-2,interleukin-4 and higher fibrinogen,C-reactive protein,aspartate aminotransferase,and lactate dehydrogenase ***:In conclusion,the SUPER score demonstrated equivalent accuracy to the NEWS2 score in predicting severe *** application in prognostic assessment therefore offers an effective early warning system for critical management and facilitating efficient allocation of health resources.

Background:Anticoagulants are promising regimens for treating coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).However,whether prophylactic or intermediate-to-therapeutic dosage is optimal remains under active ***:We comprehensively searched PubMed,Embase,Scopus,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,ClinicalTrials,and MedRxiv databases on April 26,*** independent researchers conducted literature selection and data extraction separately according to predetermined ***,this is the first meta-analysis on COVID-19,taking serious consideration regarding the dosage overlap between the 2 comparison groups of prophylactic anticoagulation(PA)and intermediate-to-therapeutic anticoagulation(I-TA).Results:We included 11 randomized controlled trials(RCTs)and 36 cohort studies with 27,051 COVID-19 *** analyzing all the RCTs,there was no significant difference in mortality between the PA and I-TA groups,which was further confirmed by trial sequential analysis(TSA)(odds ratio[OR]:0.93;95%confidence interval[CI]:0.71–1.22;P=0.61;TSA adjusted CI:0.71–1.26).The rate of major bleeding was remarkably higher in the I-TA group than in the PA group,despite adjusting for TSA(OR:1.73;95%CI:1.15–2.60;P=0.009;TSA adjusted CI:1.09–2.58).RCTs have supported the beneficial effect of I-TA in reducing thrombotic *** including all studies,mortality in the I-TA group was significantly higher than in the PA group(OR:1.38;95%CI:1.15–1.66;P=0.0005).The rate of major bleeding was similar to the analysis from RCTs(OR:2.24;95%CI:1.86–2.69;Pgimen *** addition,in both critical and noncritical subgroups,I-TA failed to reduce mortality but increased major bleeding rate compared with PA,as shown in meta-analysis of all studies,as well as RCTs ***-regression of all studies suggested that there was no relationship between the treatment effect and the overall risk of mortality or maj

BACKgROUND Toxic epidermal necrolysis(TEN)is often associated with skin wounds affecting large *** of this type of wound is difficult because of pressure,infection and other *** can increase the length of hospital stay and result in wound sepsis and even *** SUMMARY A 49-year-old woman developed a skin lesion covering 80%of the total body surface area after using a kind of Chinese medicinal ointment on a burn wound on her back;she developed life-threatening wound sepsis and septic ***-resistant Staphylococcus aureus,carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii,carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other bacteria were cultured from wound tissue,deep venous catheter and blood *** cilastatin sodium,tigecycline and teicoplanin were used for anti-infection ***,the patient was transferred to the burn department because of severe wound *** the burn intensive care unit,pain-free dressing changes and autologous scalp skin grafting were performed to heal the wound in addition to reasonable and effective antibacterial treatment according to microbial susceptibility test *** three operations within 2 wk,the wound healed and sepsis *** TEN patients with large areas of skin injury may develop wound infection and life-threatening wound *** scalp skin grafting may be beneficial for rapid wound healing and reducing the risk of sepsis in TEN patients,and it leaves no scar at the donor site.

Chuna Therapy for Musculoskeletal pain:A Systematic Review of Randomized Clinical Trials in Korean Literature

Objective： To evaluate the effectiveness of Chuna for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain as reported in Korean literature. Methods： We conducted an electronic literature search using seven Korean databases and manually searched six traditional Korean medicine journals. Risk of bias was assessed with the Cochrane criteria. Results： Six randomized controlled trials （RCTs） were included in the study. Compared with standard care, three RCTs suggested favorable effects of Chuna on neck pain due to a hypolordotic cervical spine, low back pain caused by traffic accidents, and low back pain. In contrast, compared with standard care, three RCTs failed to show positive effects on temporomandibular joint disorder, mandibular movement, and neck pain caused by traffic accidents. Conclusions： Currently, the evidence of the effectiveness of Chuna for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain is not convincing. Further rigorously designed trials are warranted to determine its effectiveness.
