Virus-related cancer is cancer where viral infection leads to the malignant transformation of the host's infected cells. Seven viruses (e.g., human papillomavirus (HPV), Epstein–Barr virus (EBV), Kaposi's sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV), Hepatitis B virus (HBV), Hepatitis C virus (HCV), Human T-lymphotropic virus (HTLV), and Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCV)) that infect humans have been identified as an oncogene and have been associated with several human malignancies. Recently, growing attention has been attracted to exploring the pathogenesis of virus-related cancers. One of the most mysterious molecules involved in carcinogenesis and progression of virus-related cancers is circular RNAs (circRNA). These emerging non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), due to the absence of 5′ and 3′ ends, have high stability than linear RNAs and are found in some species across the eukaryotic organisms. Compelling evidence has revealed that viruses also encode a repertoire of circRNAs, as well as dysregulation of these viral circRNAs play a critical role in the pathogenesis and progression of different types of virus-related cancers. Therefore, understanding the exact role and function of the virally encoded circRNAs with virus-associated cancers will open a new road for increasing our knowledge about the RNA world. Hence, in this review, we will focus on emerging roles of virus-encoded circRNAs in multiple cancers, including cervical cancer, gastric cancer, Merkel cell carcinoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Kaposi cancer, and liver cancer.

12 hours after cerebral ischemia is the optimal time for bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell transplantation

Cell therapy using stem cell transplantation against cerebral ischemia has been reported. However, it remains controversial regarding the optimal time for cell transplantation and the transplantation route. Rat models of cerebral ischemia were established by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. At 1, 12 hours, 1, 3, 5 and 7 days after cerebral ischemia, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were injected via the tail vein. At 28 days after cerebral ischemia, rat neurological function was evaluated using a 6-point grading scale and the pathological change of ischemic cerebral tissue was observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining. Under the fluorescence microscope, the migration of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells was examined by PKH labeling. Caspase-3 activity was measured using spectrophotometry. The optimal neurological function recovery, lowest degree of ischemic cerebral damage, greatest number of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells migrating to peri-ischemic area, and lowest caspase-3 activity in the ischemic cerebral tissue were observed in rats that underwent bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell transplantation at 12 hours after cerebral ischemia. These findings suggest that 12 hours after cerebral ischemia is the optimal time for tail vein injection of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell transplantation against cerebral ischemia, and the strongest neuroprotective effect of this cell therapy appears at this time.

Using Network Pharmacology to Explore Therapeutic Effect of Polygonum capitatum on Renal Calculus in Rats

[Objectives]To explore the therapeutic effect of Polygonum capitatum on renal calculus in rats based on network pharmacology.[Methods]Through the preliminary construction of ***-urolithiasis disease target network,explore the active components,action pathway and action target of ***-urolithiasis treatment,and use 1%ethylene glycol+2%ammonium chloride to induce SD rat kidney calcium oxalate stone model to verify the efficacy of ***-urolithiasis treatment.[Results]Through the network pharmacological prediction,it is found that the important active components in *** were quercetin,gallic acid,rutin,silybin,catechin,kaempferol and so on;potential active targets include INS,CAT,IL-6,MOCOS,*** results also suggest that forkhead transcription factor signaling pathway(FoxO signaling pathway),tumor necrosis factor signaling pathway(TNF signaling pathway)and hypoxia-inducible factor signaling pathway(HIF-1 signaling pathway)are the core *** results of biochemical indicators in animal experiment showed that the contents of serum urea nitrogen(BUN),creatinine(Cr)and malondialdehyde(MDA)in renal tissue in the treatment group(200,500 mg/kg)were significantly lower than those in the model group,while the content of superoxide dismutase(SOD)was significantly higher than that in the model *** addition,the kidney tissue H&E staining sections showed that *** alcohol extract administration group rats kidney calcium oxalate crystals were significantly reduced compared with the model group,the degree of renal tubular lumen expansion was lighter than the model group,suggesting that *** alcohol extract has the effect of improving renal calculus in rats.[Conclusions]This study provides a theoretical reference for the deep development of *** in the treatment of renal calculus.

Fever assessment in children under five: Are we following the guidelines?

Do Endocrinopathies Differ in Most Prevalent Hemoglobinopathy of Middle East:Beta-thalassemia?

Determination of 4-nonylphenol and 4-tert-octylphenol compounds in various types of wastewater and their removal rates in different treatment processes in nine wastewater treatment plants of Iran

Alkylphenols(APs), considered as xenoestrogenic compounds, mainly exist as 4-nonylphenol(4-NP) and 4-tertoctylphenol(4-t-OP) in environments. The high stability and accumulation of APs in aquatic systems have caused endocrine disruption. In this study we measured APs in the wastewater influent and effluent samples, from the urban, rural, livestock, commercial and hospital wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs) in Iran. Dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction(DLLME) combined with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC–MS) was used for the extraction and determination of 4-NP and 4-t-OP. In these treatment plants, various processes such as activated sludge, aerated lagoon, moving bed biofilm reactor and activated sludge along with wetland were applied. The highest concentration of 4-NP and 4-t-OP was observed in commercial and livestock sewages. The activated sludge along with wetland and then the MBBR process showed the highest removal rates of pollutants. The rates of biodegradability and accumulation in sludge were determined and also the specific adsorption coefficient Kdand the organic carbon–water partition coefficient kOCof the sludge for APs were calculated.
