Terahertz biotechnology has been increasingly applied in various biomedical fields and has especially shown great potential for application in brain *** this article,we review the development of terahertz biotechnology and its applications in the field of *** evidence indicates promising prospects for the use of terahertz spectroscopy and terahertz imaging techniques in the diagnosis of amyloid disease,cerebrovascular disease,glioma,psychiatric disease,traumatic brain injury,and myelin *** vitro and animal experiments have also demonstrated the potential therapeutic value of terahertz technology in some neuropsychiatric *** the precise underlying mechanism of the interactions between terahertz electromagnetic waves and the biosystem is not yet fully understood,the research progress in this field shows great potential for biomedical noninvasive diagnostic and therapeutic ***,the biosafety of terahertz radiation requires further exploration regarding its two-sided efficacy in practical *** review demonstrates that terahertz biotechnology has the potential to be a promising method in the field of neuropsychiatry based on its unique advantages.

Proton radiotherapy has seen an increasing role in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）. Historically, external beam radiotherapy has played a very limited role in HCC due to a high incidence of toxicity to surrounding normal structures. The ability to deliver a high dose of radiation to the tumor is a key factor in improving outcomes in HCC. Advances in photon radiotherapy have improved dose conformity and allowed dose escalation to the tumor. However, despite these advances there is still a large volume of normal liver that receives a considerable radiation dose during treatment. Proton beams do not have an exit dose along the beam path once they enter the body. The inherent physical attributes of proton radiotherapy offer a way to maximize tumor control via dose escalation while avoiding excessive radiation to the remaining liver, thus increasing biological effectiveness. In this review we discuss the physical attributes and rationale for proton radiotherapy in HCC. We also review recent literature regarding clinical outcomes of using proton radiotherapy for the treatment of I-ICC.

Tracer kinetic modeling in dynamic positron emission tomography （PET） has been widely used to investigate the characteristic distribution patterns or dysfunctions of neuroreceptors in brain diseases. Its practical goal has progressed from regional data quantification to parametric mapping that produces images of kinetic-model parameters by fully exploiting the spatiotemporal information in dynamic PET data. Graphical analysis （GA） is a major parametric mapping technique that is independent on any compartmental model configuration, robust to noise, and computationally efficient. In this paper, we provide an overview of recent advances in the parametric mapping of neuroreceptor binding based on GA methods. The associated basic concepts in tracer kinetic modeling are presented, including commonly-used compartment models and major parameters of interest. Technical details of GA approaches for reversible and irreversible radioligands are described, considering both plasma input and reference tissue input models. Their statistical properties are discussed in view of parametric imaging.

Multi-analyte analysis of cytokines that predict outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated with radiotherapy

AIM To analyze cytokine levels and to identify their association with outcome in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) treated with radiotherapy(RT). METHODS Patients with HCC who were treated with RT were eligible for this prospective study. Blood samples were collected before and after RT, and serum cytokine levels including interleukin(IL)-1, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, and tumor necrosis factor-α were analyzed. RESULTS Between 2008 and 2009, 51 patients were enrolled in this study. Baseline IL-6 level was high in patients with a history of pre-RT treatment. Median survival was 13.9 mo with alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) as a significant factor(P = 0.020). Median failure-free survival(FFS) for infield, outfield-intrahepatic and extrahepatic failures were 23.3, 11.5 and 12.0 mo, respectively. Sex and baseline IL-6 level were associated with infield FFS, and baseline IL-10 level was correlated with outfield-intrahepatic FFS. For extrahepatic FFS, AFP was significant(P =0.034). Patients with a baseline IL-6 level of ≥ 9.7 pg/m L showed worse infield FFS(P = 0.005), and this significance was observed only in treatment-non-na?ve patients(P = 0.022). CONCLUSION In addition to AFP, cytokines seem useful in predicting infield and outfield-intrahepatic failure. Serum cytokines could be useful biomarkers for predicting RT outcome in HCC.

99mTc-3PRGD2 is a new SPECT radiotracer for several tumor imaging with high uptake where integrinαvβ3 is highly *** pilot study was to assess the safety,biodistribution and radiation dosimetry of 9,mTc-3PRGD2 in healthy *** 10 healthy male volunteers were injected with 99mTc-3PRGD2（786.7±55.8 MBq,19.1-24.2 mCi）.Baseline measurements of vital signs,laboratory safety tests and 12-lead electrocardiogram were recorded before and after *** and urine samples were collected and radiation counts were obtained at various time ***-body scans and ROIs of identified organs were used for visual analysis and estimating the radiation *** adverse reactions were found during the study.99mTc-3PRGD2 exhibited a rapid clearance from the blood with less than 45%of the initial dosage at 10 min after injection and gradual increasing radioactivity in urine with（52.9±6）%of original dose at 1440 *** whole-body imaging showed high radioactive accumulation in *** the highest 99mTc-3PRGD2 uptake was found in the kidneys(3.50×10-2 mSv/MBq).The 99mTc-3PRGD2 exhibited good pharmacokinetic properties and little radiation *** study showed that 99mTc-3PRGD2 would be a safe and attractive SPECT agent in clinic applications.

Effect of Electromagnetic Pulse Exposure on Permeability of Blood-testicle Barrier in Mice

Objective To study the effect of electromagnetic pulse （EMP） exposure on the permeability of blood-testicle barrier （BTB） in mice. Methods Adult male BALB/c mice were exposed to EMP at 200 kV/m for 200 pulses with 2 seconds interval. The mice were injected with 2% Evans Blue solution through caudal vein at different time points after exposure, and the permeability of BTB was monitored using a fluorescence microscope. The testis sample for the transmission electron microscopy was prepared at 2 h after EMP exposure. The permeability of BTB in mice was observed by using Evans Blue tracer and lanthanum nitrate tracer. Results After exposure, cloudy Evans Blue was found in the testicle convoluted seminiferous tubule of mice. Lanthanum nitrate was observed not only between testicle spermatogonia near seminiferous tubule wall and sertoli cells, but also between sertoli cells and primary spermatocyte or secondary spermatocyte. In contrast, lanthanum nitrate in control group was only found in the testicle sertoli cells between seminiferous tubule and near seminifdrous tubule wall. Conclusion EMP exposure could increase the permeability of BTB in the mice.
