Objective:Omicron,a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)variant,is responsible for numerous infections in *** study investigates the association between the use of Seven-Flavor Herb Tea(SFHT)and the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection to develop precise and differentiated strategies for control of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Methods:This case-control study was conducted at shelter hospitals and quarantine hotels in China.A total of 5348 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients were enrolled between April 1 and May 31,2022,while 2190 uninfected individuals served as healthy *** questionnaires were used to collect data on demographics,underlying diseases,vaccination status,and use of *** were propensity-score-matched using 1:1 nearest-neighbor matching of the logit of the propensity ***,a conditional logistic regression model was used for data ***:Overall,7538 eligible subjects were recruited,with an average age of[45.54±16.94]*** age of COVID-19 patients was significantly higher than that of uninfected individuals([48.25±17.48]years vs[38.92±13.41]years;t=22.437,P<0.001).A total of 2190 COVID-19 cases were matched with uninfected individuals at a 1:1 *** use of SFHT(odds ratio=0.753,95%confidence interval:0.692,0.820)was associated with a lower risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to untreated ***:Our findings suggest that taking SFHT reduces the risk of SARS-CoV-2 *** is a useful study in the larger picture of COVID-19 management,but data from large-sample multi-center,randomized clinical trial are warranted to confirm the finding.

Dynamic expression of cerebral cortex and hippocampal glutamate transporters in a rat model of chest compression-induced global cerebral ischemia

The present study established a rat model of global cerebral ischemia induced by chest compression for six minutes to dynamically observe expressional changes of three glutamate transporters in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus. After 24 hours of ischemia, expression of glutamate transporter-1 significantly decreased in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus, which was accompanied by neuronal necrosis. At 7 days post-ischemia, expression of excitatory amino acid carrier 1 decreased in the hippocampal CA1 region and cortex, and was accompanied by apoptosis Expression of glutamate-aspartate transporter remained unchanged at 6 hours 7 days after ischemia. These results suggested that glutamate transporter levels were altered at different periods of cerebral ischemia.

Clinicians’prescription preferences for treating patients with Alzheimer’s disease in Shanghai

Background:China has more cases of Alzheimer’s disease(AD)than any other country in the *** training to recognize and manage dementia is in its early stage,it is important to study clinicians’current prescription preferences for treating patients with ***:This study surveyed neurologists,psychiatrists,and general physicians(GPs)in Shanghai who had outpatients with AD,using a questionnaire asking about their prescription preferences for these ***:Among the 148 clinicians in the study,26.4%were psychiatrists,44.6%were neurologists,and 29.1%were *** groups did not differ significantly in age,gender,or their monthly cases of new patients with mild or moderate AD(P>0.05).Most clinicians prescribed Cholinesterase inhibitors(ChEIs),including Huperzine A,but there were significant group-differences in prescribing specific ChEIs(P0.05),and all three groups prescribed piracetam,ergot,and ginkgo biloba *** three groups also tended to treat AD patients with a combination of antidepressants and anxiolytics,although psychiatrists were significantly more likely than neurologists to combine antipsychotics with other drugs(P<0.05).Conclusion:Clinicians in Shanghai prescribed low doses of ChEIs and Memantine for patients with AD.A relatively high proportion also prescribed cognitive enhancers,which lack evidence-based support of their use,and *** is a need for more training about treating patients with AD and for clinicians to standardize their clinical practice.

Objective: The immune system is involved in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia; here, we aimed to explore the relationship of cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA4) with ***: CTLA4 gene structure was first analyzed, and then rs231779, rs733618, rs231775 and rs3087243 were selected as tag single nucleotide polymorphisms for the linkage disequilibrium blocks inCTLA4 in the Chinese Han population to study expression quantitative trait loci ofCTLA4 gene in normal brain tissue. Additionally, membraneCTLA4 (mCTLA4) and solubleCTLA4 (sCTLA4) mRNA expression levels were evaluated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from 65 first-episode schizophrenia patients and 61 healthy controls. This study was approved by the Bioethics committee of corresponding research institutes (approval No. 20150016) on March 6, 2015 and the principles of theDeclaration of ***: After applying Bonferroni correction to theP values, only the minor C allele of rs733618 was significantly associated with increased expression of totalCTLA4 (PBonf.= 0.019), but notmCTLA4 (PBonf. = 0.115), in the hippocampus. ThesCTLA4 expression was significantly decreased in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of schizophrenia patients compared with healthy controls, whilemCTLA4 was ***: These results suggest that the soluble form ofCTLA4 may be associated with schizophrenia and that lowersCTLA4 expression may increase the risk of developing schizophrenia.

A Public health Model and Framework to Mitigate the Impact of Orphans and Vulnerable Children Due to HIV/AIDS in Cameroon

UNICEF, UNAIDS and USAID developed a global strategic framework to guide responses to care and protect orphans and other vulnerable children in the context of HIV/AIDS. In the developing world, about 132 million people have lost one or both parents due to the AIDS pandemic and 25 million children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS in 2010. The HIV prevalence in Cameroon is estimated at 5.1%. As of 2010, there were 304,000 deaths due to AIDS in Cameroon. Out of 1,200,000 orphans and vulnerable children in Cameroon in 2010, 300,000 were AIDS orphans. The HIV/AIDS burden impacts child survival, growth and development in the traditional African setting. With so many orphans in the population, along with many vulnerable children, strategies must be developed to respond more effectively to their critical needs. This study provides a model for OVC care and support in Cameroon. The model was developed out of extensive work using a participatory approach involving traditional, administrative and health stakeholders on OVC in Yaounde I and Yaounde VI Councils, Nanga Eboko health district, Isangelle, Ekondo Titi, and Bafaka-Balue communities in Cameroon. Consultancy services with PLAN Cameroon, the Pan African Institute for Development-West Africa coupled with facilitation of many training workshops on OVC with Save the orphans Foundation, the Ministry of Social affairs, and the Ministry of Public health and working with the National AIDS Control committee. The essential components of a holistic framework for the care of OVC have been identified. A public health model for the care of OVC and a mechanism for their identification and a referral system for testing OVC for HIV are proposed. Through this model, a mechanism for the effective holistic care of OVC and collaboration is enhanced.
