Submillimeter interferometry has the potential to image supermassive black holes on event horizon scales,providing tests of the theory of general relativity and increasing our understanding of black hole accretion *** Event Horizon Telescope(EHT) performs these observations from the ground,and its main imaging targets are Sagittarius A~* in the Galactic Center and the black hole at the center of the M87 ***,the EHT is fundamentally limited in its performance by atmospheric effects and sparse terrestrial(u,v)-coverage(Fourier sampling of the image).The scientific interest in quantitative studies of the horizon size and shape of these black holes has motivated studies into using space interferometry which is free of these *** resolution considerations and interstellar scattering effects push the desired observing frequency to bands above 500 *** paper presents the requirements for meeting these science goals,describes the concept of interferometry from Polar or Equatorial Medium Earth Orbits(PECMEO) which we dub the Event Horizon Imager(EHI),and utilizes suitable space technology *** this concept,two or three satellites orbit at slightly different orbital radii,resulting in a dense and uniform spiral-shaped(u,v)-coverage over *** local oscillator signals are shared via an inter-satellite link,and the data streams are correlated on-board before final processing on the ***-satellite metrology and satellite positioning are extensively employed to facilitate the knowledge of the instrument position vector,and its time *** European space heritage usable for both the front ends and the antenna technology of such an instrument is *** and future sensors for the required inter-satellite metrology are *** performance estimates and simulation results are given.

Kinetics of the gas-phase reactions of•OH radicals with a series of fluoroesters were studied for the first time at 298±3 K and atmospheric *** rate coefficients were determined by in situ FTIR spectroscopy in nitrogen and GC-FID in air to monitor the decay of reactants and *** following coefficient values(in 10^(−12)cm^(3)/(molecule•sec))were obtained for ethyl fluoroacetate(EFA),ethyl 4,4,4-trifluorobutyrate(ETB),and butyl fluoroacetate(BFA),respectively:k_(1)(EFA+OH)=1.15±0.25 by FTIR and 1.34±0.23 by GC-FID;k_(2)(ETB+OH)=1.61±0.36 by FTIR and 2.02±0.30 by GC-FID;k_(3)(BFA+OH)=2.24±0.37 by *** trends were developed and correlated with the number of CH_(3)and F substituents in the fluoroester,and structure-activity relationships(SARs)calculations were *** addition,the tropospheric lifetimes of EFA,ETB,and BFA upon degradation by OH radicals were calculated to be 9,6,and 5 days,respectively,indicating that these fluorinated compounds could have a possible regional effect from the emission *** small photochemical ozone creation potentials of 9,7,and 19 were estimated for EFA,ETB,and BFA,*** GlobalWarming Potentials(GWPs)for EFA,ETB,and BFA were calculated for different time *** a 20-year time horizon,the GWPs were 1.393,0.063,and 0.062,*** the case of a 100-year time horizon,the GWPs were 0.379,0.017,and 0.017,and for a 500-year time horizon,the GWPs were 0.108,0.005,and 0.005 for EFA,ETB,and BFA.

Eventual Leader Election with Weak Assumptions on Initial Knowledge,Communication Reliability,and Synchrony

This paper considers the eventual leader election problem in asynchronous message-passing systems where an arbitrary number t of processes can crash（t〈n,where n is the total number of processes）.It considers weak assumptions both on the initial knowledge of the processes and on the network *** precisely,initially,a process knows only its identity and the fact that the process identities are different and totally ordered（it knows neither n nor t）.Two eventual leader election protocols and a lower bound are *** first protocol assumes that a process also knows a lower bound α on the number of processes that do not *** protocol requires the following behavioral properties from the underlying network：the graph made up of the correct processes and fair lossy links is strongly connected,and there is a correct process connected to（n〈f）-α other correct processes（where f is the actual number of crashes in the considered run） through eventually timely paths（paths made up of correct processes and eventually timely links）.This protocol is not communication-efficient in the sense that each correct process has to send messages *** second protocol is communication-efficient：after some time,only the final common leader has to send messages *** protocol does not require the processes to know α,but requires stronger properties from the underlying network：each pair of correct processes has to be connected by fair lossy links（one in each direction）,and there is a correct process whose n〈f-1 output links to the rest of correct processes have to be eventually timely.A matching lower bound result shows that any eventual leader election protocol must have runs with this number of eventually timely links,even if all processes know all the processes *** addition to being communication-efficient,the second protocol has another noteworthy efficiency property,namely,be the run finite or infinite,all the local variables and message fields have

The Darwin plant, also known as the Venus flytrap, Dionaea muscipula, has fascinated people since Darwin＇s time. The plant lives in nutrient-poor habitats but has been able to overcome the limitations of its surroundings by evolving a carnivorous lifestyle, particularly by modifying its leaves into active traps to catch animals. When flies, ants, or other small animals touch mechano-sensitive hairs protruding from the inner surface of the bi-lobed trap, it shuts within a fraction of a second.

Narrow band imaging and white light endoscopy in the characterization of a polypectomy scar:A single-blind observational study

AIM To assess the incremental benefit of narrow band imaging(NBI) and white light endoscopy(WLE), randomizing the initial technique for the detection of residual neoplasia at the polypectomy scar after an endoscopic piecemeal mucosal resection(EPMR).METHODS We conducted an observational study in an academic center to assess the incremental benefit of NBI and WLE randomly applied 1:1(NBI-WLE or WLE-NBI) in the follow-up of a post-EPMR scar by the same *** A total of 112 EPMR scars were included. The median baseline polyp size was 20 mm(interquartile range: 14-30). At first review, NBI and WLE showed good sensitivity(85.0% vs 78.9%), specificity(77.1% vs 84.2%) and overall accuracy(80.0% vs 82.5%). NBI after WLE(WLE-NBI group) improved accuracy, but this difference was not statistically significant [area under the curve(AUC): 86.8% vs 81.6%, P = 0.15]. WLE after NBI(NBI-WLE group) did not improve accuracy(AUC: 81.4% vs 81.1%, P = 0.9). Overall, recurrence was found in 39/112(34.8%) *** Although no statistically significant differences were found between the two techniques at the first postEPMR assessment, the use of NBI after WLE may improve residual neoplasia detection. Nevertheless, biopsy is still required in the first scar review.

ZEITLUPE is required for shade avoidance in the wild tobacco Nicotiana attenuata^FA

Being shaded is a common environmental stress for plants, especial y for densely planted crops. Shade de-creases red: far-red (R:FR) ratios that inactivate phyto-chrome B (PHYB) and subsequently release phytochrome interaction factors (PIFs). Shaded plants display elongated hypocotyls, internodes, and petioles, hyponastic leaves, early flowering and are inhibited in branching: traits col ectively cal ed the shade avoidance syndrome (SAS). ZEITLUPE (ZTL) is a circadian clock component and blue light photoreceptor, which is also involved in floral rhythms and plant defense in Nicotiana attenuata. ztl mutants are hypersensitive to red light and ZTL physical y interacts with PHYB, suggesting the involvement of ZTL in R:FR light signaling. Here, we show that N. attenuata ZTL-silenced plants display a phenotype op-posite to that of the SAS under normal light. After simulated shade, the normal y induced transcript levels of the SAS mar-ker gene, ATHB2 are attenuated in ZTL-silenced plants. The auxin signaling pathway, known to be involved in SAS, was also significantly attenuated. Furthermore, NaZTL directly in-teracts with NaPHYBs, and regulates the transcript levels of PHYBs, PIF3a, PIF7 and PIF8 under shade. Our results suggest that ZTL may regulate PHYB- and the auxin-mediated sig-naling pathway, which functions in the SAS of N. attenuata.
