Abstract At present, descriptions of Cleantioides emarginata Kwon ＆ K/m, 1992 have been limited to the type locality of Pusan, In this study, we discovered this species in the Changjiang （Yangtze） River estuary, China. This represents an extension of the known geographical range of C. emarginata. In addition, we present information of a colour pattern not previously described, along with details on the estuarine habitat of the species.

Aims The tropical conservatism hypothesis(TCH)links environmental tolerance,diversification,dispersal and evolutionary history in explaining why warm,wet tropical regions harbor more species than colder,drier *** TCH is considered as a dominant explanation for broad-scale patterns of species richness across the globe,such as the latitudinal diversity *** its core,the TCH predicts a positive relationship between clade age and ***,I test this prediction using a data set of angiosperm tree assemblages from *** I assembled an altitudinal gradient of 15 communities of angio-sperm trees.I calculated the mean family age(MFA)of tree species for each community.I used ordinary regression analysis and spatial autoregression analysis to determine the relationships of species richness and MFA with elevation,temperature and precipitation.I used correlation analysis to assess relationships between paired *** Findings MFA is negatively correlated with tree species richness,and increases with elevation and decreases with temperature for the alti-tudinal *** remains significantly increasing with decreas-ing temperature along the altitudinal gradient after accounting for spatial autocorrelation in a species-ordination *** negative relationship between clade age and temperature along the altitudi-nal gradient in Malesia is contrary to the TCH.

The phylogenetic position of hyoliths has long been unsettled, with recent discoveries of a tentaculate feeding apparatus(‘lophophore’) and fleshy apical extensions from the shell(‘pedicle’) suggesting a lophophorate affinity. Here, we describe the first soft parts associated with the feeding apparatus of an orthothecid hyolith, Triplicatella opimus from the Chengjiang biota of South China. The tuft-like arrangement of the tentacles of T. opimus differs from that of hyolithids, suggesting they collected food directly from the substrate. A reassessment of the feeding organ in hyolithids indicates that it does not represent a lophophore and our analysis of the apical structures associated with some orthothecids show that these represent crushed portions of the shell and are not comparable to the brachiopod pedicle. The new information suggests that hyoliths are more likely to be basal members of the lophotrochozoans rather than lophophorates closely linked with the Phylum Brachiopoda.

We provide an integrative taxonomic analysis of the Lipinia vittigera species complex from mainland Southeast Asia. Based on examination of external morphology, color pattern, and 681 base pairs of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) mitochondrial gene, we demonstrate the presence of four morphologically distinct lineages of Lipinia in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia, showing a sequence divergence ranging 15.5%–20.4%. All discovered lineages are discretely diagnosable from one another by a combination of scalation traits and color patterns. A review of the published distribution data and a re-examination of available type material revealed the following results:(1) distribution of L. vittigera (Boulenger, 1894) sensu stricto is restricted to Sundaland and the Thai-Malay Peninsula south of the Isthmus of Kra;(2) L. microcercus (Boettger, 1901) stat. nov. is elevated to full species rank;the species has a wide distribution from central and southern Vietnam across Cambodia to eastern Thailand;we regard Lygosoma vittigerum kronfanum Smith, 1922 and Leiolopisma pranensis Cochran, 1930 as its junior synonyms;(3) Lipinia trivittata sp. nov. occurs in hilly areas of southern Vietnam, Cambodia, and eastern Thailand;and (4) Lipinia vassilievi sp. nov. is currently known only from a narrow area along the Vietnamese-Cambodian border in the foothills of the central Annamite Mountain Range. We further provide an identification key for Lipinia occurring in mainland Southeast Asia.
