Hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets(bNNss)exhibit remarkable thermal and dielectric ***,their self-assembly and alignment in macroscopic forms remain challenging due to the chemical inertness of boron nitride,thereby limiting their performance in applications such as thermal *** this study,we present a coaxial wet spinning approach for the fabrication of bNNss/polymer composite fibers with high nanosheet *** composite fibers were prepared using a superacid-based solvent system and showed a layered structure comprising an aramid core and an aramid/bNNss ***,the coaxial fibers exhibited significantly higher bNNss alignment compared to uniaxial aramid/bNNss fibers,primarily due to the additional compressive forces exerted at the core-sheath interface during the hot drawing *** a bNNss loading of 60 wt%,the resulting coaxial fibers showed exceptional properties,including an ultrahigh Herman orientation parameter of 0.81,thermal conductivity of 17.2 W m^(-1)K^(-1),and tensile strength of 192.5 *** results surpassed those of uniaxial fibers and previously reported bNNss composite fibers,making them highly suitable for applications such as wearable thermal management *** findings present a promising strategy for fabricating high-performance composite fibers based on bNNss.

Evaluating newer generation intraocular lens calculation formulas in manual versus femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery

AIm:To determine the refractive accuracy of the Haigis,barrett Universal II(barrett),and Hill-radial basis function 2.0(Hill-RbF)intraocular lens(IOL)power calculations formulas in eyes undergoing manual cataract surgery(mCs)and refractive femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery(Re LACs).mETHODs:This was a REb-approved,retrospective interventional comparative case series of 158 eyes of 158 patients who had preoperative biometry completed using the IOL master 700 and underwent implantation of a Tecnis IOL following uncomplicated cataract surgery using either mCs or *** spherical equivalence(sE)was predicted using the Haigis,barrett,and Hill-RbF *** older generation formula(Hoffer Q)was included in the *** refractive error(mE)was calculated one month *** lens factors of all formulas were retrospectively optimized to set the mE to 0 for each formula across all *** median absolute errors(medAE)and the proportion of eyes achieving an absolute error(AE)within 0.5 diopters(D)were compared between the two formulas among mCs and ReLACs eyes,***:Of the 158 eyes studied,64 eyes underwent mCs and 94 eyes underwent *** mCs eyes,the medAE did not differ between the formulas(P=0.59),however among ReLACs eyes,barrett and Hill-RbF were more accurate(P=0.001).barrett and Hill-RbF were both more likely to yield AE5 D among both groups(PsION:The barrett and Hill-RbF formula lead to greater refractive accuracy and likelihood of refractive success when compare to Haigis in eyes undergoing Re LACs.

Abstract In this introduction we describe the purpose and structure of the Canada-China Reciprocal Learning in Teacher Education and school Education Partnership Grant Project sponsored by the social sciences and Humanities Council of Canada(ssHRC)in 2013−2020,and describe the project’s practice-based methodology along with a discussion of selected preliminary *** papers presented in this special issue of Frontiers of Education in China animate our discussion by bringing forward important school-based activities and *** heart of this work is the collaborative activity and voices of Chinese and Canadian *** illustrate our concept of reciprocal learning and how we apply this concept in our Partnership Grant *** believe that we have heavily benefited from the productive work and impact that has been made in the field of comparative education and we have put our emphasis on Reciprocal Learning as Collaborative Partnership throughout our project.

Dynamic Finite Element modeling and simulation of soft Robots

soft robots have become important members of the robot community with many potential applications owing to their unique flexibility and security embedded at the material *** increasing number of researchers are interested in their designing,manufacturing,modeling,and ***,the dynamic simulation of soft robots is difficult owing to their infinite degrees of freedom and nonlinear characteristics that are associated with soft materials and flexible geometric *** this study,a novel multi-flexible body dynamic modeling and simulation technique is introduced for soft *** actuators for soft robots are modeled in a virtual environment,including soft cable-driven,spring actuation,and pneumatic driving.A pneumatic driving simulation was demonstrated by the bending modules with different materials.A cable-driven soft robot arm prototype and a cylindrical soft module actuated by shape memory alley springs inspired by an octopus were manufactured and used to validate the simulation model,and the experimental results demonstrated adequate *** proposed technique can be widely applied for the modeling and dynamic simulation of other soft robots,including hybrid actuated robots and rigid-flexible coupling *** study also provides a fundamental framework for simulating soft mobile robots and soft manipulators in contact with the environment.

A bipolar verdazyl radical for a symmetric all-organic redox flow-type battery

A symmetric all-organic non-aqueous redox flow-type battery was investigated employing the neutral small molecule radical 3-phenyl-1,5-di-p-tolylverdazyl,which can be reversibly oxidized and reduced in one-electron processes,as the sole charge storage *** voltammetry of the verdazyl radical in 0.5 m tetrabutylammonium hexa fluoro phosphate(TbAPF6)in acetonitrile revealed redox couples at-0.17 V and-1.15 V ***+/Ag,leading to a theoretical cell voltage of 0.98 *** the dependence of peak currents on the square root of the scan rate,diffusion coefficients on the order of 4 x 10 6 cm2 s-1 were *** performance was assessed in a static cell employing a Tokoyuma AHA anion exchange membrane,with 0.04 m verdazyl as catholyte and anolyte in 0.5 m TbAPF6 in acetonitrile at a current density of 0.12 mA *** coulombic efficiencies were good(94%-97%)throughout the experiment,the capacity faded gradually from high initial values of 93%of the theoretical discharge capacity to 35%by the 50th *** and energy efficiencies were 68%and 65%,*** analysis by cyclic voltammetry revealed that decomposition of the active material with cycling is a leading cause of cell degradation.

Time-resolved characteristics of a nanosecond pulsed multi-hollow needle plate packed bed dielectric barrier discharge

In this paper,self-designed multi-hollow needle electrodes are used as a high-voltage electrode in a packed bed dielectric barrier discharge reactor to facilitate fast gas flow through the active discharge area and achieve large-volume stable *** dynamic characteristics of the plasma,the generated active species,and the energy transfer mechanisms in both positive discharge(PD)and negative discharge(ND)are investigated by using fast-exposure intensified charge coupled device(ICCD)images and time-resolved optical emission *** experimental results show that the discharge intensity,number of discharge channels,and discharge volume are obviously enhanced when the multi-needle electrode is replaced by a multihollow needle *** a single voltage pulse period,PD mainly develops in a streamer mode,which results in a stronger discharge current,luminous intensity,and E/N compared with the diffuse mode observed in *** PD,as the gap between dielectric beads changes from 0 to250μm,the discharge between the dielectric bead gap changes from a partial discharge to a standing filamentary micro-discharge,which allows the plasma to leave the local area and is conducive to the propagation of surface *** ND,the discharge only appears as a diffusionlike mode between the gap of dielectric beads,regardless of whether there is a discharge ***,the generation of excited states N_(2)^(+)(b^(2)∑_(u)^(+))and N2(C^(3)Π_(u))is mainly observed in PD,which is attributed to the higher E/N in PD than that in ***,the generation of the OH(A^(2)∑^(+))radical in ND is higher than in *** is not directly dominated by E/N,but mainly by the resonant energy transfer process between metastable N_(2)(A^(3)∑_(u)^(+))and OH(X^(2)Π).Furthermore,both PD and ND demonstrate obvious energy relaxation processes of electron-to-vibration and vibration-to-vibration,and no vibration-to-rotation energy relaxation process is observed.

Influence of unrecorded alcohol consumption on liver cirrhosis mortality

Unrecorded alcohol includes illegally distributed alcohol as well as homemade or surrogate alcohol which is unintended for consumption by humans(e.g.,cosmetics containing alcohol).The highest unrecorded alcohol consumption occurs in Eastern Europe and some of these countries have an over proportional liver cirrhosis *** besides ethanol have been hypothesized as being responsible for this *** the other hand,chemical investigations were unable to prove that unrecorded alcohol regularly contains contaminants above toxicological ***,illegally produced spirits regularly contain higher percentages of alcohol(above 45%by volume),but for considerably less costs compared with licit beverages,potentially causing more problematic patterns of *** this review,it is investigated whether patterns of drinking rather than product composition can explain the liver cirrhosis mortality *** examination of World Health Organization country data shows that the originally detected correlation of the percentage of unrecorded alcohol consumption and liver cirrhosis mortality rates disappears when the data is adjusted for the prevalence of heavy episodic *** may be concluded that there is currently a lack of data to demonstrate causality between the composition of illicit spirits(e.g.,higher levels of certain contaminants in home-produced products)and liver toxicity on a population *** may be cases of poisoning with antiseptic liquids containing compounds such as polyhexamethyleneguanidine,which were reported to be consumed as surrogate alcohol in Russia,leading to an outbreak of acute cholestatic liver injury,histologically different from conventional alcoholic liver disease.

Trajectory correction for lunar flyby transfers to libration point orbits using continuous thrust

Trajectory corrections for lunar flyby transfers to sun–Earth/moon libration point orbits(LPOs)with continuous thrusts are investigated using an ephemeris *** lunar flyby transfer has special geometrical and dynamical structures;therefore,its trajectory correction strategy is considerably different from that of previous studies and should be specifically *** this paper,we first propose a control strategy based on the backstepping technique with a dead-band scheme using an ephemeris *** initial error caused by the launch time error is *** the perturbed transfers significantly diverge from the reference transfers after the spacecraft passes by the moon,we adopt two sets of control parameters in two portions before and after the lunar flyby,***,practical constraints owing to the navigation and propellant systems are introduced in the dynamical model of the trajectory *** a prograde type 2 orbit as an example,numerical simulations show that our control strategy can efficiently address trajectory corrections for lunar flyby transfers with different practical *** addition,we analyze the effects of the navigation intervals and dead-band scheme on trajectory ***,trajectory corrections for different lunar flyby transfers are depicted and compared.

Interleukin (IL)-8 is a potent neutrophil chemotactic factor and a crucial mediator in neutrophil-dependent *** cell types produce IL-8, either in response to external stimuli such as cytokines or bacterial infection, or aftermalignant transformation. Anti-IL-8 strategies have been considered for anti-inflammatory therapy. In this paper wedemonstrate that the RNA interference technique can be used to efficiently down-regulate IL-8 protein expression inairway epithelial cells. We used a helper-dependent adenoviral vector to express a small hairpin (sh)RNA targetinghuman IL-8 in cultured airway epithelial cells (Ib3-1, Cftr-/-; C38, Cftr-corrected) stimulated with TNF-α, IL-1β orheat-inactivated burkholderia cenocepacia. stimulated IL-8 expression in Ib3-1 and C38 cells was significantly reducedby shRNA expression. The shRNA targeting IL-8 had no effect on the activation of NF-κb, or on the protein levels ofIκb or IL-6, suggesting that this anti-IL-8 strategy was highly specific, and therefore may offer potential for thetreatment of inflammatory diseases.

Evidence for metallization in dense oxygen has been reported for over 30 years[Desgreniers et al.,***.94,1117(1990)]at a now routinely accessible 95 GPa[shimizu et al.,Nature 393,767(1998)].However,despite the longevity of this result and the technological advances since,the nature of the metallic phase remains poorly constrained[Akahama et al.,***.74,4690(1995);Goncharov et al.,***.b 68,224108(2003);ma,***.b 76,064101(2007);and Weck et al.,***.102,255503(2009)].In this work,through Raman spectroscopy,we report the distinct vibrational characteristics of metallicζ-O_(2) from 85 to 225 *** comparison with numerical simulations,weﬁnd reasonable agreement with the candidate structure up to about 150 *** higher pressures,the C2/mstructure is found to be unstable and incompatible with experimental *** candidate structures,and Ci,with C2/m C2/conly two molecules in the primitive unit cell,are found to be stable and more compatible with measurements above 175 GPa,indicative of the dissociation of(O_(2))4 ***,we report and discuss a strong hysteresis and metastability with the precursory phaseϵ-O_(2).Theseﬁndings will reinvigorate experimental and theoretical work into the dense oxygen system,which will have importance for oxygen-bearing chemistry,prevalent in the deep Earth,as well as fundamental physics.
