Evolution of Mount Cameroon volcanism: Geochemistry, mineral chemistry and radiogenic isotopes(Pb, Sr, Nd)

Mount Cameroon volcano has erupted several times in the 20 th Century with documented eruptions in 1909,1922,1954,1959,1982,1999 and *** of historic volcanism is represented by several older lava flows and lahar deposits around the flanks of the *** study aims to assess the evolution of Mount Cameroon volcanism through its eruptive history via interpretation of mineralogical,whole rock geochemical and Pb,Sr,Nd isotope data generated from historic and recent lava *** this study,samples were collected from the 1959,1982,1999 and 2000 eruptions and from several historic eruption sites with unknown eruption *** of major and trace element data demonstrates that Mount Cameroon is geotectonically associated with within-plate Ocean Island Basalt *** than 90%of the studied historic lavas(n=29)classify as tephrites and basanites whereas the modern lavas(n=38)are predominantly trachybasalts,demonstrating evolution from primitive to evolved lavas over time typically in response to fractional ***,the lavas are porphyritic with main mineral phases being olivine,clinopyroxene,plagioclase feldspars and Fe-Ti-Cr *** 1982 lavas are predominantly aphyric and dominated by lath-shaped flow-aligned plagioclase in the *** chemistry shows variable forsterite compositions from *** vary from diopside through augite to titanaugite with chemical composition ranges from Wo45En32Fs7 to *** feldspars vary from labradorite(An567 O)to bytownite(An80-87).For the Fe-Ti-Cr oxides,calculated ulvospinel component shows a wide variation from ***-normative classification on the Di-Ol-Hy-Qz-Ne system shows that all Mount Cameroon lavas are nepheline-normative(Ne ranges from4.20 wt.%to 11.45 wt.%).Radiogenic isotope data demonstrate that Mount Cameroon lavas are HIMU(or high μ=238U/204Pb),characterized by 206Pb/204Pb=20.19-20.46,207Pb/204Pb=15.63-15.69,208Pb/204

Characterizing the catalyst fluidization with field synergy to improve the amine absorption for CO2 capture

There are great interests to capture the CO2 to control the greenhouse gas *** absorption of CO2 is being taken as an effective way to capture CO2 in ***,the amine absorption of CO2 is cost-ineffective due to great energy consumption and solution *** order to reduce the capture cost,catalyst fluidization is proposed here to intensify the mass transfer and heat *** fluidization with field synergy and DFT model is developed by incorporating the effects of catalyst reaction kinetics,drag force and multi-field into the mass transfer,heat transfer,fluid flow and catalyst *** with an improved distributor are performed well to validate the *** reaction kinetics is determined by the DFT simulation and *** mass transfer coefficient in the fluidized reactor is identified as 17%higher than the conventional packed *** the field synergy of catalyst fluidization,the energy consumption for CO2 desorption is reduced by 9%.Stepwise operation and inclination reactor are used to improve catalyst fluidization process.

Propagule pressure has been identified as a major correlate of invasion success. However,it is often difficult to examine,as release information is infrequently available and releases of invasive species are rarely manipulated to study invasion processes. Biological control programs therefore provide a unique opportunity to study the role of propagule pressure in invasion *** examine the persistence,colonization and abundance of four biological control agents(Galerucella pusilla and G. calmariensis(Coleoptera:Chrysomelidae),Nanophyes marmoratus(Coleoptera: Brentidae),and Hylobius transversovittatus(Coleoptera:Curculionidae)) released in the Lower Columbia River Estuary,USA,for the control of purple loosestrife(Lythrum salicaria,Lythraceae).We developed statistical models to identify which release and environmental variables were important in the different stages of invasion for each *** also examined both constituent parts of propagule pressure(release size and number of releases) at two spatial levels,1) local(nearest) and 2) regional(within 10km).Galerucella spp which had the highest release size and number of releases was more successful at colonizing new sites and reaching higher abundances at new sites,however,it had a lower likelihood of persistence than the other two genera. Environmental variables more often explained invasion success of these biological control agents(significant in 70%of models) than propagule pressure(30%of models) and residence time(10%of models).We conclude that the importance of propagule pressure differs depending on the type of measurement used,the scale examined, the invasion stage and whether it is assessed in an interaction with environmental variables.

A single crystalline Mg2Si film was formed by solid phase reaction （SPR） of a Si（111） substrate with an Mg overlayer capped with an oxide layer（s）,which was enhanced by post annealing from room temperature to 100℃ in a molecular beam epitaxy （MBE） *** thermal stability of the Mg2Si film was then systematically investigated by post annealing in an oxygen-radical ambient at 300℃,450℃ and 650℃,*** Mg2Si film stayed stable until the annealing temperature reached 450℃ then it transformed into amorphous MgOx attributed to the decomposition of Mg2Si and the oxidization of dissociated Mg.

Assessing the impact of arthropod natural enemies on crop pests at the field scale

There are many reasons why it is important that we find ways to conserve, and better utilize natural enemies of invertebrate crop pests. Currently, measures of natural enemy impact are rarely incorporated into studies that purport to examine pest control. Most studies examine pest and natural enemy presence and/or abundance and then qualitatively infer impact. While this provides useful data to address a range of ecological questions, a measure of impact is critical for guiding pest management decision-making. Often some very simple techniques can be used to obtain an estimate of natural enemy impact. We present examples of field-based studies that have used cages, barriers to restrict natural enemy or prey movement, direct observation of natural enemy attack, and sentinel prey items to estimate mortality. The measure of natural enemy impact used in each study needs to be tailored to the needs of farmers and the specific pest problems they face. For example, the magnitude of mortality attributed to natural enemies may be less important than the timing and consistency of that mortality between seasons. Tailoring impact assessments will lead to research outcomes that do not simply provide general information about how to conserve natural enemies, but how to use these natural enemies as an integral part of decision-making.

This paper presents a re-evaluation of the room temperature mechanical properties and high temperature creep resistance of magnesium die-casting alloy AE44(Mg-4Al-4RE)in light of the influence of minor Mn *** is shown that the Mn-containing AE44 exhibits distinct age hardening response upon direct ageing(T5)due to the precipitation of nanoscale Al-Mn particles,as reported previously in a similar *** T5 ageing leads to a significant improvement in strength with similar ***,the T5-aged AE44 has a remarkably better strength-ductility combination than most Mg die-casting alloys and even the Al die-casting alloy *** Mn addition is also shown to be critical for the creep resistance of AE44 whereas the influence of the RE constituent is not as significant as previously thought,which reaffirms that precipitation hardening of theα-Mg matrix is more important than grain boundary reinforcement by intermetallic phases for the creep resistance of die-cast Mg *** findings in this work could provide new application perspectives for AE44,particularly in the automotive industry.

Advances in haemostatic sponges: Characteristics and the underlying mechanisms for rapid haemostasis

In traumatized patients, the primary cause of mortality is uncontrollable continuous bleeding and unexpected intraoperative bleeding which is likely to increase the risk of complications and surgical failure. High expansion sponges are effective clinical practice for the treatment of wound bleeding (irregular/deep/narrow) that are caused by capillaries, veins and even arterioles as they possess a high liquid absorption ratio so can absorb blood platelets easily in comparison with traditional haemostasis treatments, which involve compression, ligation, or electrical coagulation etc. When in contact with blood, haemostatic sponges can cause platelet adhesion, aggregation, and thrombosis, preventing blood from flowing out from wounds, triggering the release of coagulation factors, causing the blood to form a stable polymerized fibre protein, forming blood clots, and achieving the goal of wound bleeding control. Haemostatic sponges are found in a variety of shapes and sizes. The aim of this review is to facilitate an overview of recent research around haemostatic sponge materials, products, and technology. This paper reviews the synthesis, properties, and characteristics of haemostatic sponges, together with the haemostasis mechanisms of haemostatic sponges (composite materials), such as chitosan, cellulose, gelatin, starch, graphene oxide, hyaluronic acid, alginate, polyethylene glycol, silk fibroin, synthetic polymers silver nanoparticles, zinc oxide nanoparticles, mesoporous silica nanoparticles, and silica nanoparticles. Also, this paper reviews commercial sponges and their properties. In addition to this, we discuss various in-vitro/in-vivo approaches for the evaluation of the effect of sponges on haemostasis .
