Production systems and important antimicrobial resistant-pathogenic bacteria in poultry:a review

Economic losses and market constraints caused by bacterial diseases such as colibacillosis due to avian pathogenic Escherichia coli and necrotic enteritis due to Clostridium perfringens remain major problems for poultry producers,despite substantial efforts in prevention and *** have been used not only for the treatment and prevention of such diseases,but also for growth ***,these practices have been linked to the selection and spread of antimicrobial resistant bacteria which constitute a significant global threat to humans,ani-mals,and the *** break down the antimicrobial resistance(AMR),poultry producers are restricting the antimicrobial use(AMU)while adopting the antibiotic-free(ABF)and organic production practices to satisfy consum-ers’***,it is not well understood how ABF and organic poultry production practices influence AMR profiles in the poultry gut *** Gram-negative(Salmonella enterica serovars,Campylobacter jejuni/coli,***)and Gram-positive(Enterococcus spp.,Staphylococcus *** ***)bacteria harboring multiple AMR determinants have been reported in poultry including organically-and ABF-raised *** this review,we discussed major poultry production systems(conventional,ABF and organic)and their impacts on AMR in some potential pathogenic Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria which could allow identifying issues and opportuni-ties to develop efficient and safe production practices in controlling pathogens.

A new type of liquid–solid fluidized bed,named circulating conventional fluidized bed(CCFB)which operates below particle terminal velocity was proposed and experimentally *** hydrodynamic behavior was systematically studied in a liquid–solid CCFB of 0.032 m *** 4.5 m in height with five different types of ***–solid fluidization with external particle circulation was experimentally realized below the particle terminal *** axial distribution of local solids holdup was obtained and found to be fairly uniform in a wide range of liquid velocities and solids circulation *** average solids holdup is found to be significantly increased compared with conventional fluidization at similar *** effect of particle properties and operating conditions on bed behavior was investigated as *** show that particles with higher terminal velocity have higher average solids holdup.

A new and easy-to-fabricate strain sensor has been developed,based on fiber Bragg grating(FBG)technology embedded into a thermoplastic polyurethane filament using a 3-dimensional(3D)*** advantage of the flexibility and elastic properties of the thermoplastic polyurethane material,the embedding of the FBG provides durable protection with enhanced flexibility and sensitivity,as compared to the use of a bare *** of an evaluation of its performance have shown that the FBG sensors embedded in this way can be applied effectively in the measurement of strain,with an average wavelength responsivity of 0.0135 nm/cm of displacement for tensile strain and -0.0142 nm/cm for compressive strain,both showing a linearity value of up to 99%.Furthermore,such an embedded FBG-based strain sensor has a sensitivity of~1.74 times greater than that of a bare FBG used for strain measurement and is well protected and suitable for in-the-field *** is also observed that the thermoplastic polyurethane based(TPU-based)FBG strain sensor carries a sensitivity value of~2.05 times higher than that of the polylactic acid based(PLA-based)FBG strain sensor proving that TPU material can be made as the material of choice as a“sensing”pad for the FBG.

Reactor performance of bubbling fluidized bed(BFB)and turbulent fluidized bed(TFB)was carefully examined and systematically compared using catalytic ozone decomposition as a model reaction,based on a complete mapping of local flow structures and spatial distributions of ozone conversion and solids *** clearly has a higher conversion and shows better reactor performance than BFB as a result of the vigorously turbulent flow and the relatively homogeneous gas–solids mixing in ***,the intensive interaction between gas and solids in TFB leads to greater gas–solids contact efficiency of TFB over that of *** to gas bypassing and backmixing caused by bubbling behaviours and two-phase structure,BFB deviates significantly from a plug flow reactor and sometimes from a continuously stirred tank *** flow structures essentially dictate the reactor performance in the low-velocity fluidized beds.

Corneal astigmatic outcomes after femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery combined with surface penetrating arcuate keratotomies

AIM:To evaluate corneal astigmatic outcomes of femtosecond laser-assisted arcuate keratotomies(FAKs)combined with femtosecond-laser assisted cataract surgery(FLACS)over 12mo ***:Totally 145 patients with bilateral cataracts and no ocular co-morbidities were recruited to a singlecentre,single-masked,prospective randomized controlled trial(RCT)comparing two monofocal hydrophobic acrylic intraocular *** with corneal astigmatism(CA)of>0.8 dioptres(D)received unpaired,unopened,surface penetrating FAKs at the time of *** acuity,subjective refraction and Scheimpflug tomography were recorded at 1,6,and *** vectoral analyses were ***:Fifty-one patients(61 eyes),mean age 68.2±9.6y[standard deviation(SD)],received *** eyes were available for analysis,except at 12mo when 59 *** were no complications due to *** pre-operative CA was 1.13±0.20 *** was a reduction of astigmatism at all post-operative visits(residual CA 1mo:0.85±0.42 D,P=0.0001;6mo:0.86±0.35 D,P=0001;and 12mo:0.90±0.39,P=0.0001).Alpins indices remained stable over ***,the cohort was under-corrected at all time *** 12mo,61%of eyes were within±15 degrees of pre-operative astigmatic ***:Unpaired unopened penetrating FAKs combined with on-axis phacoemulsification are safe but minimally *** is largely under-corrected in this cohort using an existing unmodified *** effect of arcuate keratotomies on CA remained stable over 12mo.
