Supercapacitor has been widely known as a representative electrochemical energy storage device with high power density and long lifespan.Recently,with the deeper understanding of its charge storage mechanism,unidirectional-charging supercapacitor,also called supercapacitor diode(CAPode),is successfully developed based on the ion-sieving effect of its working electrode towards electrolyte ions.Because CAPode integrates mobile ion and mobile electron in one hybrid circuit,it has a great potential in the emerging fields of ion/electron coupling logic operations,human–machine interface,neural network interaction,and in vivo diagnosis and treatment.Accordingly,we herein elucidate the working mechanism and design philosophy of CAPode,and summarize the electrode materials that are suitable for constructing CAPode.Meanwhile,some other supercapacitor-based devices beyond CAPode are also introduced,and their potential applications are instructively presented.Finally,we outline the challenges and chances of CAPode-related techniques.

Ribosome profiling(Ribo-Seg)enables genome-wide survey of translational activities at nucleotide resolution by enriching and sequencing ribosome-protected fragments(RPFs)in the cell(Ingolia et al.,2009).Based on the characteristic distribution of RPFs in Ribo-Seq,such as enrichment in open reading frames(ORFs)and three-nucleotide periodicity,many computational methods have been developed to detect translated ORFs from Ribo-Seq data(Wang et al.,2020a).

The lanzhou-Urumqi high-speed railway is an important part of the railway network connecting Gansu,Qinghai,and Xinjiang,and it is of far-reaching significance in facilitating China’s western development.An accessibility model and a double difference model were built to analyze the impact of the lanzhou-Urumqi high-speed railway on regional accessibility and economic development of the areas along the line before(2012-2014)and after(2017-2019)its opening.The results show that the regional accessibility remains unchanged before and after the operation of this railway line.However,there is a spatial difference in improvement,that of central cities being better.The opening of the high-speed railway is conducive to driving the overall economic development of the region and promoting the comprehensive and coordinated development of regional economies.

BACKGROUND Gastric cancer,characterized by a multifactorial etiology and high heterogeneity,continues to confound researchers in terms of its pathogenesis.Curcumin,a natural anticancer agent,exhibits therapeutic promise in gastric cancer.Its effects include promoting cell apoptosis,curtailing tumor angiogenesis,and enhancing sensitivity to radiation and chemotherapy.Long noncoding RNAs(lncRNAs)have garnered significant attention as biomarkers for early screening,diagnosis,treatment,and drug response because of their remarkable specificity and sensitivity.Recent investigations have revealed an association between aberrant lncRNA expression and early diagnosis,clinical staging,metastasis,drug sensitivity,and prognosis in gastric cancer.A profound understanding of the intricate mechanisms through which lncRNAs influence gastric cancer develop-ment can provide novel insights for precision treatment and tailored management of patients with gastric cancer.This study aimed to unravel the potential of curcumin in suppressing the malignant behavior of gastric cancer cells by upregu-lating specific lncRNAs and modulating gastric cancer onset and progression.AIM To identify lncRNAs associated with curcumin treatment and investigate the role of lncRNA AC022424.2 in the effects of curcumin on gastric cancer cell apoptosis,proliferation,and invasion.Furthermore,these findings were validated in clinical samples.METHODS The study employed CCK-8 assays to assess the impact of curcumin on gastric cancer cell proliferation,flow cytometry to investigate its effects on apoptosis,and scratch and Transwell assays to evaluate its influence on the migration and invasion of BGC-823 and MGC-803 cells.Western blotting was used to gauge changes in the protein expression levels of CDK6,CDK4,Bax,Bcl-2,caspase-3,P65,and the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway in gastric cancer cell lines after curcumin treatment.Differential expression of lncRNAs before and after curcumin treatment was assessed using lncRNA sequencing and validated using quantitative reverse

BACKGROUND Portal vein thrombosis(PVT),a complication of liver cirrhosis,is a major public health concern.PVT prediction is the most effective method for PVT diagnosis and treatment.AIM To develop and validate a nomogram and network calculator based on clinical indicators to predict PVT in patients with cirrhosis.METHODS Patients with cirrhosis hospitalized between January 2016 and December 2021 at the First Hospital of lanzhou University were screened and 643 patients with cirrhosis who met the eligibility criteria were retrieved.Following a 1:1 propensity score matching 572 patients with cirrhosis were screened,and relevant clinical data were collected.PVT risk factors were identified using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(LASSO)and multivariate logistic regression analysis.Variance inflation factors and correlation matrix plots were used to analyze multicollinearity among the variables.A nomogram was constructed to predict the probability of PVT based on independent risk factors for PVT,and its predictive performance was verified using a receiver operating characteristic curve(ROC),calibration curves,and decision curve analysis(DCA).Finally,a network calculator was constructed based on the nomograms.RESULTS This study enrolled 286 cirrhosis patients with PVT and 286 without PVT.LASSO analysis revealed 13 variables as strongly associated with PVT occurrence.Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed nine indicators as independent PVT risk factors,including etiology,ascites,gastroesophageal varices,platelet count,D-dimer,portal vein diameter,portal vein velocity,aspartate transaminase to neutrophil ratio index,and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio.LASSO and correlation matrix plot results revealed no significant multicollinearity or correlation among the variables.A nomogram was constructed based on the screened independent risk factors.The nomogram had excellent predictive performance,with an area under the ROC curve of 0.821 and 0.829 in the training and testing groups,respectively.Calibr

Effects of individual heterogeneity on social contagions

Despite having significant effects on social contagions,individual heterogeneity has frequently been overlooked in earlier studies.To better understand the complexity of social contagions,a non-Markovian model incorporating heterogeneous social influence and adoption thresholds is introduced.For theoretical analysis,a generalized edge-based compartmental theory which considers the heterogeneities of social influence and adoption thresholds is developed.Focusing on the final adoption size,the critical propagation probability,and the phase transition type,social contagions for adoption thresholds that follow normal distributions with various standard deviations,follow various distributions,and correlate with degrees are investigated.When thresholds follow normal distributions,a larger standard deviation results in a larger final adoption size when the information propagation probability is relatively low.However,when the information propagation probability is relatively high,a larger standard deviation results in a smaller final adoption size.When thresholds follow various distributions,crossover phenomena in phase transition are observed when investigating the relationship of the final adoption size versus the average adoption threshold for some threshold distributions.When thresholds are correlated with degrees,similar crossover phenomena occur when investigating the relationship of the final adoption size versus the degree correlation index.Additionally,we find that increasing the heterogeneity of social influence suppresses the effects of adoption threshold heterogeneity on social contagions in three cases.Our theory predictions agree well with the simulation results.

Cancer cachexia is a multi-organ syndrome and closely related to changes in signal communication between organs,which is mediated by cancer cachexia factors.Cancer cachexia factors,being the general name of inflammatory factors,circulating proteins,metabolites,and microRNA secreted by tumor or host cells,play a role in secretory or other organs and mediate complex signal communication between organs during cancer cachexia.Cancer cachexia factors are also a potential target for the diagnosis and treatment.The pathogenesis of cachexia is unclear and no clear effective treatment is available.Thus,the treatment of cancer cachexia from the perspective of the tumor ecosystem rather than from the perspective of a single molecule and a single organ is urgently needed.From the point of signal communication between organs mediated by cancer cachexia factors,finding a deeper understanding of the pathogenesis,diagnosis,and treatment of cancer cachexia is of great significance to improve the level of diagnosis and treatment.This review begins with cancer cachexia factors released during the interaction between tumor and host cells,and provides a comprehensive summary of the pathogenesis,diagnosis,and treatment for cancer cachexia,along with a particular sight on multi-organ signal communication mediated by cancer cachexia factors.This summary aims to deepen medical community’s understanding of cancer cachexia and may conduce to the discovery of new diagnostic and therapeutic targets for cancer cachexia.

Asymmetric Drying and Wetting Trends in Eastern and Western China

As an important factor that directly affects agricultural production, the social economy, and policy implementation,observed changes in dry/wet conditions have become a matter of widespread concern. However, previous research has mainly focused on the long-term linear changes of dry/wet conditions, while the detection and evolution of the non-linear trends related to dry/wet changes have received less attention. The non-linear trends of the annual aridity index, obtained by the Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition(EEMD) method, reveal that changes in dry/wet conditions in China are asymmetric and can be characterized by contrasting features in both time and space in China. Spatially, most areas in western China have experienced transitions from drying to wetting, while opposite changes have occurred in most areas of eastern China. Temporally, the transitions occurred earlier in western China compared to eastern China. Research into the asymmetric spatial characteristics of dry/wet conditions compensates for the inadequacies of previous studies, which focused solely on temporal evolution;at the same time, it remedies the inadequacies of traditional research on linear trends over centennial timescales. Analyzing the non-linear trend also provides for a more comprehensive understanding of the drying/wetting changes in China.

Additive manufacturing technology,by manipulating and emulating inherent multiscale,multi-material,and multifunctional structures found in nature,has created new opportunities for constructing heterogeneous structures associated with special properties and achieving ultra-high mechanical performance and reliability in ceramic composite materials.In this study,we have developed an innovative fabrication method designated as coaxial 3D printing for the synchronous construction of two constituents into ceramic composites with a tooth enamel biomimetic microstructure.Herein,the stiff silicate and flexible epoxy served as a strengthening bridge and toughening layer,respectively.The method differed from the traditional approach of randomly dispersing reinforcing components within a ceramic matrix.It allowed for the direct creation of an internally effective three-dimensional reinforcement network structure in ceramic composites.This process facilitated synergistic deformation and simultaneous enhancement of multiple materials and hierarchical structures.Owing to the uniform distribution of internal stress and effective block of microcrack propagation,the biomimetically structured silicate/epoxy ceramic composite has demonstrated much significant enhancement in mechanical properties,includingcompressive strength(48.8±3.12MPa),flexuralstrength(10.39±1.23MPa),andflexuraltoughness(218.7±54.6kJ/m^(3)),which was 0.5,2.1,and 47.5 times as high as those of the intrinsic brittle silicate ceramics,respectively.In-situ characterization and multiscale finite element simulation of microstructural evolution during three-point bending deformation further validated multiple-step features of the fracture process(silicate bridge fracture,interface detachment,epoxy extraction,and rupture),which benefited from interpenetrating structural features achieved by coaxial printing to accomplish with the complex propagating routines of the crack deflection in silicate ceramic composites.This coaxial 3D printing method paves the way for tailored
