A different gut microbial community between larvae and adults of a wild bumblebee nest （Bombus pascuorum）

Although the gut microbial communities in adult bumblebees and their as- sociated functionalities are widely studied, descriptive data on the larval gut microbiota are still limited. The gut microbiota of a fully sampled wild Bombus pascuorum nest has been characterized, using the multiplexed Illumina MiSeq 16S ribosomal RNA ampli- con sequencing technique. The nesters and foragers inhabiting the same nest showed the typical core bacterial sequences and only marginal differences in their characterized gut microbiota. The gut microbial communities within the adult and larval specimens differed strongly, as the typical core gut bacteria in the adult bumblebees are absent in the larval bumblebees. The bacterial communities within the larval gut are dominated by bacterial phylotypes of Enterobacteriaceae and Lactobacillaceae, supplemented with genera be- longing to Corynebacteriales and Bacillales. The function of this larval gut microbiota, being different from the adult, remains to be determined.

Dear Editor,Human Nucleolar complex associated 4 homolog(NOC4L,GenBank accession number NM＿024078) is the human ortholog of yeast Noc4p. However, with few functional studies evaluated, the physiological contributions of NOC4L have yet to be defined. The Noc4p gene in yeast encodes a63-kilodalton(KDa) protein that forms a stable heterodimer with Nop14p, which mediates the maturation and nuclear export of 40S ribosomal subunits(Dlakic and Tollervey,2004; Kuhn et al., 2009; Liu and Thiele, 2001; Milkereit et al.,2003).

Effect of Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001 and Bifidobacterium longum BB536 on the healthy gut microbiota composition at phyla and species level: A preliminary study

AIMTo evaluate the ability of Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001 and Bifidobacterium longum BB536 to colonize the intestinal environment of healthy subjects and modify the gut microbiota *** healthy Italian volunteers, eight males and twelve females, participated in the study. Ten subjects took a sachet containing 4 × 109 colony-forming units (CFU) of Bifidobacterium longum BB536 and 109 CFU of Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001, 30 min before breakfast (pre-prandial administration), while ten subjects took a sachet of probiotic product 30 min after breakfast (post-prandial administration). The ability of Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001 and Bifidobacterium longum BB536 to colonize human gut microbiota was assessed by means of quantitative real-time PCR, while changes in gut microbiota composition were detected by using Ion Torrent Personal Genome *** after 1-mo of probiotic administration, B. longum BB536 and L. rhamnosus HN001 load was increased in the majority of subjects in both pre-prandial and post-prandial groups. This increase was found also 1 mo after the end of probiotic oral intake in both groups, if compared to samples collected before probiotic consumption. At phyla level a significant decrease in Firmicutes abundance was detected immediately after 1-mo of B. longum BB536 and L. rhamnosus HN001 oral intake. This reduction persisted up to 1 mo after the end of probiotic oral intake together with a significant decrease of Proteobacteria abundance if compared to samples collected before probiotic administration. Whereas, at species level, a higher abundance of Blautia producta, Blautia wexlerae and Haemophilus ducrey was observed, together with a reduction of Holdemania filiformis, Escherichia vulneris, Gemmiger formicilis and Streptococcus sinensis abundance. In addition, during follow-up period we observed a further reduction in Escherichia vulneris and Gemmiger formicilis, together with a decrease in

Seven sampling sites in each of three biomes (Western Ghats, foothills of Western Ghats and west coast) of south- western India were investigated to study the distribution, abundance and ecology of pill millipedes (Arthrosphaera) and associated fauna in relation to edaphic features. Abundance and biomass of Arthrosphaera and other millipedes were the highest in Western Ghats, while earthworms were in foothills. Arthrosphaera magna and Arthrosphaera spp. were common in Western Ghats and foothills respectively, while no Arthrosphaera were found in the west coast. None of the sampling sites consisted of more than one species of Arthrosphaera. Biomass of Arthrosphaera, other millipedes and earthworms significantly differed in Western Ghats (P = 9.48 × 10-7) and foothills (P = 1.35 × 10-8), as did the biomass of species of Arthrosphaera (P = 2.76 × 10-7) between Western Ghats and foothills. Correlation analysis revealed that biomass of Arthrosphaera was significantly (P = 0.01, r = 0.45) correlated with soil organic carbon rather than other edaphic fea- tures (pH, phosphate, calcium and magnesium). Distribution pattern, abundance, biomass and ecology of Arthrosphaera of Western Ghats in relation to soil qualities were compared with millipedes of other regions of the world.

Pinene is an active natural monoterpene from plants and has important applications in favorings,fragrances,and ***,pinene dimers are regarded as renewable fuels with high ***,the microbial pinene production was limited by the low activity pinene *** this study,the pinene synthase activity was improved by fusion linker optimization and chaperon *** construct the pinene pathway in Saccharomyces cerevisiae,YPL062W gene was deleted to increase the MVA pathway precursor *** 3-hydroxyl-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase(tHMG1),isopentenyl-diphosphate isomerase(IDI1),and farnesyl diphosphate synthase mutant(ERG20F96W−N127W)were then integrated to improve the GPP *** synthase tPt1 was expressed in the constructed engineered yeast,and the titer of pinene reached 0.166 mg/*** is the direct precursor of pinene,ERG20ww and tPt1 were fused by diferent linkers and orders to improve the accessibility of *** titer reached 9.94 mg/L by fusion these proteins in the order of ERG20ww and tPt1 and with a fexible linker(G)*** that,several chaperons were coexpressed and the chaperon Sil1p improved the pinene titer to 10.2 mg/L with a yield of 1.63 mg/L·*** results presented here provide novel information on the applications of protein fusion and protein chaperons in microbial pinene production.

OBJECTIVE： Plants produce a variety of useful bio- active materials that have been used to cure differ- ent ailments of human beings. With the same idea in mind, the crude methanolic extract and various fractions of Solanum surrattense were screened for antibacterial, antifungal, phytotoxic and heamag- glutination activities. METHODS： Standardized assays were followed for the determination of antibacterial, antifungal phy- totoxic and heamagglutination activity. RESULTS： The results of the antibacterial showed that crude methanolic extract was significantly ac- tive against Staphylococcus aureus （86%） The n- hexane fraction showed good activity against Pseu- domonas aerogenosa （66.6%） and Bacillus subtilus （66.6%）. The crude methanolic extract and various fractions were inactive against all test fungi. The crude methanolic extract, n-hexane, CHCI3 and aqueous fractions showed moderate phytotoxic ac- tivities of 46.67%, 40.00%, 33.34% and 33.34% re- spectively at 1000 pg/mL. The crude methanolic ex- tract and various fractions S. surrattense were un- able to aqqlutinate RBCs of the human blood indi-cating that this species lack phytolectins. CONCLUSION： The test sample showed significant antibacterial activity, no antifungal and heamagglu- tination activity while moderate phytotoxic was ob- served against Lemna minor L.
