Plantlet regeneration through somatic embryogenesis in Nordmann's fir (Abies nordmanniana)

I studied the influence of various combinations of auxin and cytokinin concentrations, and the increased content of zinc and enzymatic casein hydrolizate in SH medium on initiation and proliferation of embryogenic callus of Abies nordmanniana （Steven） Spach. Addition- ally, the effect of ABA, PEG-4000 and different wave- lengths on the maturation of somatic embryos was tested. The use of optimum composition of modified SH medium with BA, KIN and 2.4-D while simultaneously ensuring appropriate external conditions resulted in 15.5 % embryogenesis. Finally, satisfactory results of microprop- agation of A. nordmanniana by somatic embryogenesis were obtained providing seven lines of embryogenic callus with high proliferation capacity. Those lines gave properly developed seedlings in white LED light with a wavelength of 400-700 nm, preceded by eight-week vernalization treatment of the callus. This paper may provide a protocol by which all stages of somatic embryogenesis of A. nord- manniana can be carded out, including the preceding 24-h seed disinfection with NaOCl and PVP, which resulted in 100 % frequency of uninfected zygotic embryos that were capable of starting embryogenesis.

This review on current biotechnological methods in forestry for in vitro tissue cultures to define the effect of stress conditions on trees,concentrates on somatic *** tissue,the key product of somatic embryogenesis,grows over a tree wound under ex vitro *** tissue can be used in research in areas such as pathogenic susceptibility at the embryonic level,effect of heavy metals,influence of low temperatures(cryopreservation),production of secondary metabolites and transformation of *** of arborescent plants can be induced in vitro by fungal elicitors to produce secondary metabolites for pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries and are strongly repellant to herbivores and can thus act to protect *** of dual cultures demonstrated that callus tissue exposed to a pathogenic fungus responds by synthesizing low-molecular-mass proteins belonging to an immune protein *** of embryonic callus tissue also has broad applications,e.g.,for valuable plant genotypes in gene *** strategies to protect forests against stressfactors,forest ecosystems will degrade to the detriment of all life,including *** vitro biotechnological research using callus tissue contributes to progress in forestry and the disciplines of ecology,physiology,phytopathology,culture and selection of plants.

Taman Saujana Hijau(TSH),Putrajaya is a 41-ha urban park planted with various coniferous species from around the *** pests and disease incidences of this park are unknown and there is a need for an evaluation of the health status of this urban *** study assessed the level of pest and disease incidents of coniferous species in 12 plots of 7 species(Araucaria bidwilii,Araucaria haterophylla,Araucaria cunninghamii,Pinus caribaea,Pinus merkusii,Podocarpus polystachyus,and Podocarpus costalis).Termites,canker disease,and foliar disease are three major *** highest pest and disease incidence(PnDI)was foliar disease with a 0.49 coefficient correlation between the total number of trees and the PnDI,followed by canker disease with 0.40,and termites with *** the seven conifers,*** was the most infected followed by *** and *** was concluded that the incidence of pests and diseases in TSH was *** our knowledge,this may be the first baseline inventory of pests and diseases of coniferous species in Malaysia.

＜正＞In order to find proper culture and preservation conditions of biocontrol agent for the blue stain of coniferous woods, albino strain of Ophiostoma quercus, which had been selected as a effective biocontrol agent in the previous work, was cultured in 8 liter fermenters with liquid culture media, freeze-dried, and stored at room temperature, refrigerator, and liquid nitrogen.

Female-borne cues affecting Psyttalia concolor （Hymenoptera： Braconidae） male behavior during courtship and mating

Knowledge of the mechanisms that regulate courtship and mating behavior in Psyttalia concolor （Sz6pligeti）-a koinobiont endophagous solitary parasitoid of the olive fruit fly, Bactrocera oleae （Rossi）, and of other fruit flies-is essential to its mass rearing and management, Augmentative releases ofP. concolor for olive fruit fly control started in the Mediterranean areas in the 1950s and still continue with limited success. We determined the influence of visual and chemical cues on courtship and mating behavior of this braconid and the possible effect of the mating status of males and females in the perception of these cues. Our results suggest that integration of visual and chemical stimuli are fundamental for mate location and courtship. Indeed, the optimal response of the male was achieved when physical and chemical cues were simultaneously presented and vision and olfaction worked synergistically.

Variations in electrical impedance and phase angle among seedlings of Pinus densata and parental species in Pinus tabuliformis habitat environment

Electrical impedance （El） and phase angle （PHI） parameters in AC impedance spectroscopy are important electrical parameters in the study of medical pathology. However, little is known about their application in variation and genetic relationship studies of forest trees. In order to test whether impedance parameters could be used in genetic relationship analysis among conifer species, E1 and PHI were measured in a seedling experiment test composed of Pinus tabuliformis, Pinus yunnanensis, and Pinus densata in a habitat of Pinus tabuliformis. The results showed that variations in both EI and PHI among species were sig- nificant in different electric frequencies, and the EI and PHI values measured in the two populations of P. densata were between the two parental species, P. yunnanensis and P. tabuliformis. These results show that these two impedance parameters could reflect the genetic relationship among pine species. This was the first time using the two AC impedance spectroscopy parameters to test the genetic relationship analysis between tree species, and would be a hopeful novelreference methodology for future studies in evolution and genetic variation of tree species.

A comparative study of Neogymnomyces virgineus,a new keratinolytic species from dung,and its relationships with the Onygenales

Isolations of onygenalean fungi were made recently from different dung samples from Italy.A striking snowwhite species with gymnothecial ascomata,developed in damp chamber on dormouse dung collected in a cave,was subjected to keratinolytic tests and morphological,cultural,and phylogenetic *** keratinolytic ability of this species,associated with a Chrysosporium anamorph and a sexual state of appendiculate reticuloperidia and oblate ascospores,allows it to be accomodated in *** ascomata,blunt or subcapitate peridial appendages,pitted ascospores,and tuberculate conidia suggest it to be a new Neogymnomyces,and this was confirmed by parsimony analyses of LSU and ITS nrDNA *** recent phylogenetic analyses,the morphological and physiological features of order Onygenales and its families are re-examined and *** the introduction of a new species,Neogymnomyces is reviewed and compared with all other genera in *** Chrysosporium imperfect state of Neogymnomyces virgineus is described and compared to the anamorph of *** is also compared to the atypical Chrysosporium merdarium and to several other Chrysosporium species with echinulate to verrucose-tuberculate conidia,isolated from guano,dung,and nitrogen-rich soils in *** onygenalean fungi isolated from any kind of dung are discussed and their facultative coprophily ascribed to variable faecal contents of keratin or other degradable substances.A key to the families and genera of the Onygenales is provided.

Spices are defined as any aromatic condiment of plant origin used to alter the flavor and aroma of foods. Besides flavor and aroma, many spices have antioxidant activity, mainly related to the presence in cloves of phenolic compounds, such as flavonoids, terpenoids and eugenol. In turn, the most common uses of gum arabic are in the form of powder for addition to soft drink syrups, cuisine and baked goods, specifically to stabilize the texture of products, increase the viscosity of liquids and promote the leavening of baked products (e.g., cakes). Both eugenol, extracted from cloves, and gum arabic, extracted from the hardened sap of two species of the Acacia tree, are dietary constituents routinely consumed virtually throughout the world. Both of them are also widely used medicinally to inhibit oxidative stress and genotoxicity. The prevention arm of the study included groups: Ia, IIa, IIIa, Iva, V, VI, VII, VIII. Once a week for 20 weeks, the controls received saline s.c. while the experimental groups received DMH at 20 mg/kg s.c. During the same period and for an additional 9 weeks, the animals received either water, 10% GA, EUG, or 10% GA + EUG by gavage. The treatment arm of the study included groups Ib, IIb, IIIb e IVb, IX, X, XI, XII). Once a week for 20 weeks, the controls received saline s.c. while the experimental groups received DMH at 20 mg/kg s.c. During the subsequent 9 weeks, the animals received either water, 10% GA, EUG or 10% GA + EUG by gavage. The novelty of this study is the investigation of their use alone and together for the prevention and treatment of experimental colorectal carcinogenesis induced by dimethylhydrazine. Our results show that the combined use of 10% gum arabic and eugenol was effective, with antioxidant action in the colon, as well as reducing oxidative stress in all colon segments and preventing and treating genotoxicity in all colon segments.
