Solution-processed Cu（In,Ga）Se2（CIGS） solar cells suffer from serious carrier recombination and power conversion efficiency（PCE） loss because of the poor film properties and easy formation of ***, we propose Ag&Se co-selenization strategy to enhance the crystallization and passivate harmful defects of the CIGS films. The formation of Ag-Se phase during the selenization process enables the formation of large grains and suppresses the deep level defects. It is found that Ag doping can enlarge the depletion region width, lower the Urbach energy and prolong the carrier lifetime. As a result, a champion solution-processed CIGS solar cell presents a high efficiency of 16.48% with the highly improved opencircuit voltage（VOC） of 662 m V and fill factor（FF） of 75.8%. This work provides an efficient strategy to prepare high quality solution-processed CIGS films for high-performance CIGS solar cells.

A series of β-cyclodextrin-conjugated 4-arm poly（ethylene glycol）-poly（lactide-co-glycolide）（4-arm PEG-PLGA） copolymers were synthesized by a ring-opening polymerization of D,L-lactide and glycolide using 4-arm PEG as initiator, and then conjugated with mono（6-ethylenediamine-6-deoxy）- β-cyclodextrin （CDen） or ethylenediamino-bridged bis- β-CD （BCDen）. The chemical structures of copolymers were confirmed by IH-NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. The , β-CD-conjugated PEG-PLGA formed stable reverse micelles due to the formation of fl-CD and bovine serum albumin （BSA） inclusion complexation, which could accommodate BSA in the organic solvent with improved encapsulation efficiency. Moreover, we demonstrated a one-step approach to construct macroporous protein-containing films using these reverse micelles. The films with ordered pore arrays were directly prepared from reverse micelles. Interestingly, the protein was totally located in the whole matrix except for the pores.

Dear Editor,Spontaneous infection is one of the most common complications of acute ischemic stroke(AIS)and leads to increased morbidity and mortality in stroke ***,current interventions fail to improve clinical outcomes in these *** stroke-induced immunodeficiency is thought to contribute to the risk of infection,1 we hypothesized that mesenchymal stromal cell(MSC)therapy,which harnesses potent immunomodulatory capacities,could be a potential ***,we show that intravenously administered MSCs preferentially migrate to the marginal zone(MZ)of the spleen,preserve the injured MZ B cells and ameliorate post-stroke infection and mortality in the mouse middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)model of AIS.

Pluripotent stem cells(PSCs) are cells that can differentiate into any type of cells in the body, therefore have valuable promise in regenerative medicine of cell replacement therapies and tissue/organ engineering. PSCs can be derived either from early embryos or directly from somatic cells by epigenetic reprogramming that result in customized cells from patients. Here we summarize the methods of deriving PSCs, the various types of PSCs generated with different status, and their versatile applications in both clinical and embryonic development studies. We also discuss an intriguing potential application of PSCs in constructing tissues/organs in large animals by interspecies chimerism. All these emerging findings are likely to contribute to the breakthroughs in biological research and the prosperous prospects of regenerative medicine.

Neglected for years, astrocytes are now recognized to fulfill and support many, if not all, homeostatic functionsof the healthy central nervous system(CNS). During neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS) and spinal cord injury(SCI), astrocytes in the vicinity of degenerating areas undergo both morphological and functional changes that might compromise their intrinsic properties. Evidence from human and animal studies show that deficient astrocyte functions or loss-of-astrocytes largely contribute to increased susceptibility to cell death for neurons, oligodendrocytes and axons during ALS and SCI disease progression. Despite exciting advances in experimental CNS repair, most of current approaches that are translated into clinical trials focus on the replacement or support of spinal neurons through stem cell transplantation, while none focus on the specific replacement of astroglial populations. Knowing the important functions carried out by astrocytes in the CNS, astrocyte replacement-based therapies might be a promising approach to alleviate overall astrocyte dysfunction, deliver neurotrophic support to degenerating spinal tissue and stimulate endogenous CNS repair abilities. Enclosed in this review, we gathered experimental evidence that argue in favor of astrocyte transplantation during ALS and SCI. Based on their intrinsic properties and according to the cell type transplanted, astrocyte precursors or stem cell-derived astrocytes promote axonal growth, support mechanisms and cells involved in myelination, are able to modulate the host immune response, deliver neurotrophic factors and provide protective molecules against oxidative or excitotoxic insults, amongst many possible benefits. Embryonic or adult stem cells can even be genetically engineered in order to deliver missing gene products and therefore maximize the chance of neuroprotection and functional recovery. Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy(LHON)is a debilitating mitochondrial disease associated with mutations in mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA).Unfortunately,the available treatment options for LHON patients are limited due to challenges in mitochondrial *** our study,we reprogramming LHON urine cells into induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSCs)and differentiating them into neural progenitor cells(NPCs)and neurons for disease *** research revealed that LHON neurons exhibited significantly higher levels of mtDNA mutations and reduced mitochondrial function,confirming the disease ***,through co-culturing LHON iPSC-derived NPCs with mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),we observed a remarkable rescue of mutant mtDNA and a significant improvement in mitochondrial metabolic function in LHON *** findings suggest that co-culturing with MSCs can enhance mitochondrial function in LHON NPCs,even after their differentiation into *** discovery holds promise as a potential therapeutic strategy for LHON patients.

In recent decades,the importance of surface acoustic waves,as a biocompatible tool to integrate with microfluidics,has been proven in various medical and biological *** numerical modeling of acoustic streaming caused by surface acoustic waves in microchannels requires the effect of viscosity to be considered in the equations which complicates the *** this paper,it is shown that the major contribution of viscosity and the horizontal component of actuation is concentrated in a narrow region alongside the actuation *** the inviscid equations are considerably easier to solve,a division into the viscous and inviscid domains would alleviate the computational load *** particles'traces calculated by this approximation are excellently alongside their counterparts from the completely viscous *** is also shown that the optimum thickness for the viscous strip is about 9-fold the acoustic boundary layer thickness for various flow patterns and amplitudes of actuation.

Surface states in TiO2 submicrosphere films and their effect on electron transport

Owing to their special three-dimensional network structure and high specific surface area,TiO2 submicrospheres have been widely used as electron conductors in photoanodes for solar *** recent years,utilization of TiO2 submicrospheres in solar cells has greatly boosted the photovoltaic ***,however,numerous surface states in the TiO2 network affect electron *** this work,the surface states in TiO2 submicrospheres were thoroughly investigated by charge extraction methods,and the results were confirmed by the cyclic voltammetry *** results showed that ammonia can effectively reduce the number of surface states in TiO2 ***,in-depth characterizations indicate that ammonia shifts the conduction band toward a more positive potential and improves the interfacial charge ***,charge recombination is effectively ***,the cell performance is essentially dependent on the effect of the surface states,which affects the electron transfer and recombination process.
