Identification of heat shock cognate protein 70 gene （Alhsc70） of Apolygus lucorum and its expression in response to different temperature and pesticide stresses

Heat shock cognate protein 70 （Hsc70） is a very important stress-resistance protein of insects against environmental stresses. We employed fluorescent real-time quan- titative polymerase chain reaction and Western-blot techniques to analyze the transcrip- tional and translational expression profiles of AIHSC70 under extreme temperature （4℃ and 40℃） or 4 pesticide stresses in Apolygus lucorum. The results showed that the expres- sion of AIHSC70 were significantly induced by cyhalothrin or extremely high temperature （40℃） in both transcriptional and translational levels （P 〈 0.05）, while the transcriptional and translational level of AIHSC70 decreased significantly in treatments of chlorpyrifos or extreme cold temperature （4℃）（P 〈 0.05）. Moreover, afterApolygus lucorum treated by imidacloprid or emamectin benzoate, the expression of AIHSC70 was only up-regulated significantly at the transcriptional level （P 〈 0.05）, although obviously up-regulated at the translational level of AIHSC70. Therefore, this study confirmed that the Alhsc70 gene played important roles in response to both temperature and pesticide stresses, especially for cyhalothrin or extremely high temperature （40℃）. In addition, the significant polynomial regression correlations between temperature and the Alhsc70 expression level were shown in all the nymph and adult stages （P 〈 0.01）, indicating temperature was an important factor to affect the relative expression of Alhsc70.

Selective and stable elimination of endosymbionts from multiple-infected whitefly Bemisia tabaci by feeding on a cotton plant cultured in antibiotic solutions

The Crystalline Changes of Starch from Rhizoma Dioscorea by Acid Hydrolysis

The changes in crystalline properties of starch from Rhizoma Dioscorea by acid hydrolysis was characterized by X-Ray diffractometry （XRD）. The results revealed that the crystalline type of Rhizoma Dioscorea starch changed from C-type to A-type after 16 days of the acid hydrolysis. This phenomenon was different from that of other starches subjected to the acid hydrolysis. The results revealed that the B-polymorphs of C-type starch constituted the amorphous regions while the crystalline areas were mainly composed of A-polymorphs. The degree of crystallinity of the acid-thinned starch increased gradually with the time of acid hydrolysis.

A Model System of Development Regulated by the Long-distance Transport of mRNA

BELl-like transcription factors are ubiquitous in plants and interact with KNOTTEDI-types to regulate numerous developmental processes. In potato, the RNA of several BELl-like transcription factors has been identified in phloem cells. One of these, StBEL5, and its Knox protein partner regulate tuber formation by targeting genes that control growth. RNA detection methods and grafting experiments demonstrated that StBEL5 transcripts move across a graft union to localize in stolon tips, the site of tuber induction. This movement of RNA originates in source leaf veins and petioles and is induced by a short-day photoperiod, regulated by the untranslated regions, and correlated with enhanced tuber production. Addition of the StBEL5 untranslated regions to another *** mRNA resulted in its preferential transport to stolon tips leading to increased tuber production. Upon fusion of the untranslated regions of StBEL5 to a β-glucuronidase marker, translation in tobacco protoplasts was repressed by those constructs containing the 3＇ untranslated sequence. The untranslated regions of the StBEL5 mRNA are involved in mediating its long-distance transport and in controlling translation. The 3＇ untranslated sequence contains an abundance of conserved motifs that may serve as binding motifs for RNA-binding proteins. Because of their presence in the phloem sieve tube system, their unique untranslated region sequences and their diverse RNA accumulation patterns, the family of BEL1-like RNAs from potato represents a valuable model for studying the long-distance transport of full-length mRNAs and their role in development.

Electrostatic removal of ultrafine carbon black with square-grooved collecting plates:Insights for capturing black carbon emitted from ships

Ships and other mobile pollution sources emitted massive ultrafine and low-resistivity particles containing black carbon(BC),which were harmful to human health and were difficult to capture by conventional electrostatic precipitators(ESPs).In this study,nanoscale carbon black was adopted as simulated particles(SP)with similar physicochemical properties for black carbon emitted from ships(SP-BC)to investigate the feasibility of using an ESP with square-grooved collecting plates for the removal of SP-BC at low *** increased applied voltage significantly improved the total collection of SP-BC whereas may also promote the conversion of relatively larger particle size SP-BC into nano-size below *** outlet number concentration of SP-BC under 27 kV at 130℃was three times that of the *** the reduction of the flow rate could strengthen the capture of SP-BC below20 nm,and under the combined action of low flow rate and maximum applied voltage,the collection efficiency of 20-100 nm SP-BC could exceed 90%.In addition,the escape and capture characteristics of SP-BC under long-term rapping were *** square-grooved collecting plate could effectively restrain the re-entrainment of collected SP-BC generated by rapping,and the nanoscale SP-BC was trapped in the grooves after *** results could provide insights into the profound removal of massive nanoscale black carbon emissions from mobile sources.

Right Lateral Shear and Rotation in the Northeast of the Arabian-Iranian Collision Zone

Accommodation of continental convergence by crustal thickening and lateral transport is mainly featured as strike-slip faulting along the trends roughly orthogonai to the orientation of plate convergence. This style of faulting will affect seismicity of the involving areas which can be proved in low seismic zones by determining regional stress pattern using numerical methods. Accordingly, the stress distribution and deformation pattern of the South Sanandaj-Sirjan zone in the northeastern part of the Iranian-Arabian collision zone is investigated here using a three dimen-sional mechanical model. The modeled area is bounded between the Zagros thrust fault on the west and Dehshir-Baft fault in the east. The model is composed of three layers： the upper two layers represent the upper brittle and lower ductile crust of the collided continent and the lowest layer represents the lithospheric mantle. The upper crust behaves as an elastic material while the lower crust is considered as a non-Newtonian viscous fluid layer. The lithospheric mantle is taken as a low-viscosity material which is not allowed to move in any direction relative to the overlying layers. The Zagros thrust fault was treated with two different dip values saying 90° and 45° but Dehshir-Baft fault was modeled as a vertical fault and allowed to have a dextral movement regarding to the existing evidence. The driving mechanism applied to the western side of the model was chosen considering two different approaches including a kinematic approach （the Arabian-Eurasian convergence velocity; 35 mm/yr） and a dynamic approach （an external boundary force equal to 3.55E＋17 N）. The resulted stress field indicates an orogen-parallel component of right lateral shear along the Zagros fault implying a rotational deformation pattern within the modeled region that suggests a stress partitioning in the study area.
