Non-Targeted Metabolomics Reveals the Metabolic Alterations in Response to Artificial Selective Breeding in the Fast-Growing Strains of Pacific Oyster

Pacific oyster(Crassostrea gigas)is one of the most important mollusks cultured all around the *** breeding programs of Pacific oysters in China is initiated since 2006 and developed the genetically improved strain with fast-growing ***,little is known about the metabolic signatures of the fast-growing *** the present study,the non-targeted metabolomics was performed to analyze the metabolic signatures of adductor muscle tissue in one-year old Pacific oysters from fast-growing strain and the wild population.A total of 7767 and 10174 valid peaks were extracted and quantified in ESI^(+)and ESI^(−)modes,resulting in 399 and 381 annotated metabolites,*** and OPLS-DA revealed that considerable separation among samples from fastgrowing strain and wild population,suggesting the differences in metabolic ***,81 significantly different metabolites(SDMs)were identified in the comparisons between fast-growing strain and wild population,based on the strict *** was found that there were highly correlation and conserved coordination among these *** enrichment analysis indicated that the SDMs were tightly related to pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis,steroid hormone biosynthesis,riboflavin metabolism,and arginine and proline *** them,the CoA biosynthesis and metabolism,affected by pantetheine and pantothenic acid,might be important for the growth of Pacific oysters under artificial selective *** study provides the comprehensive views of metabolic signatures in response to artificially selective breeding,and is helpful to better understand the molecular mechanism of fastgrowing traits in Pacific oysters.

The suitability assessment on site selection for bottom seeding scallop culture based on analytic hierarchy process

Scallop culture is an important way of bottom-seeding marine ranching,which is of great significance to improve the current situation of fishery ***,there are some problems in site-selection evaluation of marine ranching,such as imperfect criteria system,complex structure,untargeted criteria quantification,*** addition,no site-selection evaluation method of bottom-seeding culture areas for scallops is ***,we established a hierarchy structure model according to the analytic hierarchy process(AHP)theory,in which social,physical,chemical,and biological environments are used as main criteria,and marine functional zonation,water depth,current,water temperature,salinity,substrate type,water quality,sediment quality,red tide,phytoplankton,and zooplankton are used as sub-criteria,on which a multi-parameter evaluation system is set ***,the dualism method,assignment method,and membership function method were used to quantify sub-criteria,and a quantitative evaluation for the entire criteria was added,including the evaluation and analysis of two types of unsuitable environmental *** overall consideration in scallop yield,quality,and marine ranching construction objectives,the weight of the main criteria could be *** grades in the suitability corresponding to the evaluation result were divided,and the Python language was used to create an evaluation system for efficient calculation and intuitive presentation of the evaluation *** marine cases were simulated based on existing survey data,and the results prove that the method is feasible for evaluating and analyzing the site selection of bottom-seeding culture areas for scallops under various environmental *** proposed evaluation method can be promoted for the site selection of bottom-seeding marine *** study provided theoretical and methodological references for the site selection evaluation of other types of marine ranching.

Impacts of Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture on Phytoplankton in Sanggou Bay

Integrated multi-trophic aquaculture(IMTA)has been considered as an ecofriendly culture system providing a potential solution to environmental risks caused by intensive monoculture ***,the impact of IMTA on phytoplankton remains *** this study,the spatial and temporal variations of phytoplankton in Sanggou Bay were investigated seasonally based on 21 sampling sites covering three cultivation zones(bivalve zone,IMTA zone,and kelp zone)and one control zone(without aquatic cultivation).In total,128 phytoplankton species,with diatoms and dinoflagellates as the dominant groups,were obtained across the whole year,and the mean Shannon diversity index(H')and species richness(SR)were determined as 1.39 and 9.39,*** maximum chlorophyll a(Chl-a)(6.32μg L^(-1))and plankton diversity(H'of 1.97)occurred in summer and autumn,*** to other zones,the bivalve zone displayed significantly higher Chl-a and lower H'in majority of *** PERMANOVA analysis indicated that the phytoplankton assemblage in the bivalve zone was significantly different with the control and kelp zones,while the IMTA zone maintained close to other three *** on generalized additive models,temperature,NO_(2)^(-)-N,N/P ratio,SiO_(3)^(2-)-Si,and salinity were determined as the key factors underlying Chl-a and phytoplankton ***-tionally,the results of redundancy analysis further indicated that the phytoplankton assemblage in the bivalve zone is positively re-lated with nutrients such as NO_(3)^(-)-N and NH_(4)^(+)-N as well as water depth,while the phytoplankton assemblages in the kelp,control,and IMTA zones are associated with NO_(2)^(-)-N,SiO_(3)^(2-)-Si,and *** all observations into consideration together,it can be inferred that IMTA can effectively reduce Chl-a level compared to bivalve monoculture by reducing the ***,the SR,H’,and species composition of phytoplankton are primarily determined by local environment fa

Photoperiod Mediates the Effects of Temperature and Light Intensity on the Proliferation of Ulva prolifera

In order to study the complex effects of photoperiod,temperature,and light intensity on the spore maturation and release number of Ulva prolifera,we cultured thalli segment(2–3 mm)under three different photoperiods(L:D=12:12,14:10 and 10:14),temperature(15℃(LT),25℃(MT)and 30℃(HT))and light intensity(100,200 and 400μmol m^(−2)s^(−1),noted as LL,ML and HL,respectively)*** the maturation time,spore release number and chlorophyll fluorescence were *** results suggested that:1)The spore maturation time was accelerated by higher temperature or higher light intensity from 62 h to 36 h,and changes in day length accelerated the spore maturation to a certain extent as compared with 12:12 light/dark cycle;2)Higher light intensity significantly decreased the chlorophyll fluorescence(Fv′/Fm′,NPQ,rETRmax andα)of the mature reproductive segment under 30℃with 12:12 light/dark *** when in the other photoperiods(10:14 and 14:10 conditions),the inhibitory effects of high light intensity were alleviated significantly;3)The optimum condition for the spore maturation and release was 12:12 light/dark cycle,25℃,400μmol m^(−2)s^(−1),with both shorter and longer photoperiod reducing the spore release number;4)Higher light intensity significantly increased the spore release number under 25℃,but these effects were alleviated by 30℃*** study is the first attempt to elucidate the coincidence effects of photoperiod,temperature and light intensity on the reproduction of Ulva,which would help to reveal the mechanism of the rapid proliferation of green tide.

Magmatic-hydrothermal Evolution and Mineralization Mechanisms of the Wangjiazhuang Cu(-Mo)Deposit in the Zouping Volcanic Basin,Shandong Province,China:Constraints from Fluid Inclusions

The Wangjiazhuang Cu(-Mo)deposit,located within the Zouping volcanic basin in western Shandong Province,China,is unique in this area for having an economic *** order to expound the metallogenetic characteristics of this porphyry-like hydrothermal deposit,a detailed fluid inclusion study has been conducted,employing the techniques of representative sampling,fluid inclusion petrography,microthermometry,Raman spectroscopy,LA-ICP-MS analysis of single fluid inclusions,as well as cathode fluorescence spectrometer analysis of host mineral *** deposit contains mainly two types of orebodies,***-dissemination-stockwork orebodies in the K-Si alteration zone and pegmatiticquartz sulfide veins above *** addition,minor breccia ore occurs *** types of fluid inclusions in the deposit and altered quartz monzonite are identified:L-type one-or two-phase aqueous inclusions,V-type vapor-rich inclusions with V/L ratios greater than 50%-90%,D-type multiphase fluid inclusions containing daughter minerals or solids and S-type silicate-bearing fluid inclusions containing mainly muscovite and *** petrography and fluid inclusion study has revealed a three-stage mineralization process,driven by magmatic-hydrothermal fluid activity,as ***,a hydrothermal fluid,separated from the parent magma,infiltrated into the quartz monzonite,resulting in its extensive K-Si alteration,as indicated by silicate-bearing fluid inclusions trapped in altered quartz *** is followed by the early mineralization,the formation of quartz veinlets and dissemination-stockwork *** the main mineralization stage,due to the participation and mixing of meteoric groundwater with magmatic-sourced hydrothermal fluid,the cooling and phase separation caused deposition of metals from the hydrothermal *** a result,the pegmatitic-quartz sulfide-vein ores *** the late mineralization stage,decreasing fluid salinity led to the formation of L-type aqueous

Changes in Sediment Sources in the Southern Muddy Area of Weihai, China, Since the Late Pleistocene: A Record from Rare Earth Elements

The small muddy areas developed in the southern Shandong Peninsula have attracted increasing attention from researchers because of complex changes in sediment sources driven by sea-level fluctuations and land-sea interactions since the late Pleistocene. This study investigates the evolution of sediment sources and their responses to environmental changes since the late Pleistocene, using core WHZK01 collected from the nearshore muddy area in southern Weihai for rare earth element(REE) analysis. In doing so, this work highlights the changing patterns of material sources and the primary control factors. The results reveal that the sedimentary deposits in core WHZK01 exhibit distinct terrestrial characteristics. Discriminant function analysis(FD) and source discrimination diagrams both suggest that the primary sources of these deposits are the Yellow River and adjacent small and medium-sized rivers, although the sources vary among different sedimentary units. Furthermore, the DU3 layer(17.82 – 25.10 m) displays typical riverine sedimentation, dominated by terrestrial detrital input, primarily from the local rivers, namely the Huanglei and Muzhu Rivers. The material in the DU2 layer(14.91 – 17.82 m) is mainly influenced by a mixture of the Qinglong and Yellow Rivers. The DU1 layer(0 – 14.91 m) is influenced by sea-level changes during the Holocene, with the Yellow River being the primary source, although there is also some input from local rivers. The changes in sea level during the Holocene and the input of Yellow River material carried by the coastal currents of the Yellow Sea are identified as the main controlling factors for the changes in material sources in the study area since the late Pleistocene, with small and medium-sized rivers also exerting some influence on the material sources. Biodegradation of Crystalline Chitin: A Review of Recent Advancement, Challenges, and Future Study Directions

Chitin is the second most abundant renewable polysaccharide on Earth. The degradation of chitin into soluble and bioactive N-acetyl chitooligosaccharides(NCOSs) and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine(GlcNAc) has emerged as a pivotal step in the efficient and sustainable utilization of chitin resources. However, because of its dense structure, high crystallinity, and poor solubility, chitin typically needs pretreatment via chemical, physical, and other methods before enzymatic conversion to enhance the accessibility between substrates and enzyme molecules. Consequently, there has been considerable interest in exploring the direct biological degradation of crystalline chitin as a cost-effective and environment-friendly technology. This review endeavors to present several biological methods for the direct degradation of chitin. We primarily focused on the importance of chitinase containing chitin-binding domain(CBD). Additionally, various modification strategies for increasing the degradation efficiency of crystalline chitin were introduced. Subsequently, the review systematically elucidated critical components of multi-enzyme catalytic systems, highlighting their potential for chitin degradation. Furthermore, the application of microorganisms in the degradation of crystalline chitin was also discussed. The insights in this review contribute to the explorations and investigations of enzymatic and microbial approaches for the direct degradation of crystalline chitin, thereby fostering advancements in biomass conversion.

Constraints on Characteristics and Distribution of Gas Hydrate and Free Gas Using Broad-Band Processing of Three-Dimensional Seismic Data

Gas hydrate drilling expeditions in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, South China Sea, have identified concentrated gas hydrates with variable thickness. Moreover, free gas and the coexistence of gas hydrate and free gas have been confirmed by logging, coring, and production tests in the foraminifera-rich silty sediments with complex bottom-simulating reflectors(BSRs). The broad-band processing is conducted on conventional three-dimensional(3D) seismic data to improve the image and detection accuracy of gas hydratebearing layers and delineate the saturation and thickness of gas hydrate-and free gas-bearing sediments. Several geophysical attributes extracted along the base of the gas hydrate stability zone are used to demonstrate the variable distribution and the controlling factors for the differential enrichment of gas hydrate. The inverted gas hydrate saturation at the production zone is over 40% with a thickness of 90 m, showing the interbedded distribution with different boundaries between gas hydrate-and free gas-bearing layers. However, the gas hydrate saturation value at the adjacent canyon is 70%, with 30-m-thick patches and linear features. The lithological and fault controls on gas hydrate and free gas distributions are demonstrated by tracing each gas hydrate-bearing layer. Moreover, the BSR depths based on broad-band reprocessed 3D seismic data not only exhibit variations due to small-scale topographic changes caused by seafloor sedimentation and erosion but also show the upward shift of BSR and the blocky distribution of the coexistence of gas hydrate and free gas in the Pearl River Mouth Basin.
