Robust interface and excellent as-built mechanical properties of Ti–6Al–4V fabricated through laser-aided additive manufacturing with powder and wire

The feasibility of manufacturing Ti-6Al-4V samples through a combination of laser-aided additive manufacturing with powder(LAAM_(p))and wire(LAAM_(w))was explored.A process study was first conducted to successfully circumvent defects in Ti-6Al-4V deposits for LAAM_(p) and LAAM_(w),*** the optimized process parameters,robust interfaces were achieved between powder/wire deposits and the forged substrate,as well as between powder and wire *** characterization results revealed the epitaxial prior β grains in the deposited Ti-6Al-4V,wherein the powder deposit was dominated by a finerα′microstructure and the wire deposit was characterized by lamellar α *** mechanisms of microstructure formation and correlation with mechanical behavior were analyzed and *** mechanical properties of the interfacial samples can meet the requirements of the relevant Aerospace material Specifications(AMS 6932)even without post heat *** fracture occurred within the interfacial area,further suggesting the robust *** findings of this study highlighted the feasibility of combining LAAM_(p) and LAAM_(w) in the direct manufacturing of Ti-6Al-4V parts in accordance with the required dimensional resolution and deposition rate,together with sound strength and ductility balance in the as-built condition.

Low-temperature chlorination roasting technology for the simultaneous recovery of valuable metals from spent LiCoO_(2)cathode material

With the continuous increase in the disposal volume of spent lithium-ion batteries(LIBs),properly recycling spent LIBs has become essential for the advancement of the circular *** study presents a systematic analysis of the chlorination roasting kinetics and proposes a new two-step chlorination roasting process that integrates thermodynamics for the recycling of LIB cathode *** activation energy for the chloride reaction was 88.41 kJ/mol according to thermogravimetric analysis–derivative thermogravimetry data obtained by using model-free,model-fitting,and Z(α)function(αis conversion rate).Results indicated that the reaction was dominated by the first-order(F1)model when the conversion rate was less than or equal to 0.5 and shifted to the second-order(F2)model when the conversion rate exceeded *** conditions were determined by thoroughly investigating the effects of roasting temperature,roasting time,and the mass ratio of NH_(4)Cl to LiCoO_(2).Under the optimal conditions,namely 400℃,20 min,and NH_(4)Cl/LiCoO_(2)mass ratio of 3:1,the leaching efficiency of Li and Co reached 99.43% and 99.05%,*** of the roasted products revealed that valuable metals in LiCoO_(2)transformed into CoCl_(2) and ***,the reaction mechanism was elucidated,providing insights for the establishment of a novel low-temperature chlorination roasting technology based on a crystal structure *** technology can guide the development of LIB recycling processes with low energy consumption,low secondary pollution,high recovery efficiency,and high added value.

Simulation of x-ray transmission through an ellipsoidal capillary

This paper develops a simulation program for x-ray transmission in an ellipsoidal capillary based on a ray-tracing method. The influence of the parameters of ellipsoidal capillary and x-ray energy on transmission efficiency, full width at half maximum and power density gain of x-ray beams through an ellipsoidal capillary was analysed by this program. It shows that the particular rules of the ellipsoidai capillary x-ray lens are different from the polycapillary lens. Furthermore, this analysis method can be applied to the optimized design of ellipsoidal capillary.

To explore the nonlinear activities of the cellular signaling system composed of one transcriptional arm and one protein-interaction arm, we use an irradiation-response module to study the dynamics of stochastic interactions. It is shown that the oscillatory behavior could be described in a unified way when the radiation-derived signal and noise are incorporated.

Preliminary results for the design,fabrication,and performance of a backside-illuminated avalanche drift detector

The detection of low-level light is a key technology in various experimental scientific studies. As a photon detector, the silicon photomultiplier （SiPM） has gradually become an alternative to the photomultiplier tube （PMT） in many applications in high-energy physics, astroparticle physics, and medical imaging because of its high photon detection efficiency （PDE）, good resolution for single-photon detection, insensitivity to magnetic field, low operating voltage, compactness, and low cost. However, primarily because of the geometric fill factor, the PDE of most SiPMs is not very high; in particular, for those SiPMs with a high density of micro cells, the effective area is small, and the bandwidth of the light response is narrow. As a building block of the SiPM, the concept of the backside-illuminated avalanche drift detector （ADD） was first proposed by the Max Planck Institute of Germany eight years ago; the ADD is promising to have high PDE over the full energy range of optical photons, even ultraviolet light and X-ray light, and because the avalanche multiplication region is very small, the ADD is beneficial for the fabrication of large-area SiPMs. However, because of difficulties in design and fabrication, no significant progress had been made, and the concept had not yet been verified. In this paper, preliminary results in the design, fabrication, and performance of a backside-illuminated ADD are reported; the difficulties in and limitations to the backside-illuminated ADD are analyzed.

High-density and narrow size-distribution InAs quantum dots formed by a modified two-step growth

We develop a modified two-step method of growing high-density and narrow size-distribution InAs/GaAs quantum dots （QDs） by molecular beam epitaxy. In the first step, high-density small InAs QDs are formed by optimizing the continuous deposition amount. In the second step, deposition is carried out with a long growth interruption for every 0.1 InAs monolayer. Atomic force microscope images show that the high-density （～5.9 × 10^11 cm^-2） good size-uniformity InAs QDs are achieved. The strong intensity and narrow linewidth （27.7 meV） of the photoluminescence spectrum show that the QDs grown in this two-step method have a good optical quality.

The coupling between system and reservoir is considered to be linear in the coordinates of the bath but nonlinear in the system's coordinate. A dissipative threshold is observed at finite temperatures due to nonlinear dissipation. The quantum decay rate of a metastable state including higher-order expanded terms of the coupling form function is proposed, which can be strongly decreased at finite temperatures when the quantum dissipative threshold is added to the saddle point of the potential.

Nanometer TiN/AlN multilayers were prepared on silicon substrate by filtered vacuum arc *** structures of the nanometer TiN/AlN multilayer were studied by using X-ray diffraction. The 12 nm TiN/AlN multiplayer is composed of cubic TiN structure and hexagonal wurzite AlN structure, but the 2 nm period multilayer is composed of face centered cubic structure TiN and AlN with strong (200) texture. The surface roughness, hardness and elastic modulus of multilayer are dependent on the period of multilayer. The hardness of the TiN/AlN multilayers is higher than that suggested by a simple rule of mixture. The peaking hardness of nanometer TiN/AlN multilayers at period of 2 nm is about 42 GPa, much higher than that of 12 nm. The wear resistance of the nanometer TiN/AlN multilayers was also studied.

Fusion Hindrance Factor of Heavy Nuclei Extracted from Experimental Data

The reactions of ^16O＋^204pb, ^82Se＋^138Ba and ^96Zr＋^124Sn lead to the same compound nucleus ^220Th. In terms of the assumption that the surviving probability is independent of entrance channel, we have extracted the fusion hindrance factor from the evaporation residue cross sections for the reactions of ^82Se＋^138 Ba and ^96Zr＋^124Sn and compared with the results calculated using a two-parameter Smoluchowski equation. The theoretical predictions are basically in agreement with the experimental data. It is found that the probability of forming a compact ^220Th is less than 10% for the reactions considered. For the systems more massive than ^220Th, fusion should be much more strongly suppressed due to the competition of quasifission with complete fusion. Understanding of this inhibition is essential to forming new superheavy nuclei.
