The gut microbiota plays an important role in host health and *** understanding of the fish microbiota lags far behind our knowledge of that of humans and other ***,research has highlighted the importance of the microbiota in the health,performance,and various physiological functions of *** microbiota has been studied in various fish species,including model animals,economic fish,and wild fish *** composition of the fish microbiota depends on host selection,diet,and environmental *** intestinal microbiota affects the nutritional metabolism,immunity,and disease resistance of the fish host,while the host regulates the intestinal microbiota in a reciprocal way through both immune and non-immune *** and novel gnotobiotic fish models have been developed,which are important for the mechanistic study of host–microbiota interactions in *** this review,we discuss recent progress in fish microbiota *** describe various aspects of this research,including both studies on fish microbiota variations and fundamental research extending our knowledge of host–microbiota interaction in *** on how fish microbiota research may benefit fish health and industrial sustainability are also discussed.

Constant light in early life induces fear-related behavior in chickens with suppressed melatonin secretion and disrupted hippocampal expression of clock-and BDNF-associated genes

Background: Light management plays an important role in the growth and behavior of broiler chickens. Constant light in early post hatch stage has been a common practice in broiler industry for improving growth performance,while whether and how constant light in early life affects the behavior of broiler chickens is rarely ***: In this study, newly hatched chicks were kept in either constant(24 L:0 D, LL) or(12 L:12 D, LD) photoperiod for 7 d and then maintained in 12 L:12 D thereafter until 21 days of age. Constant light increased the average daily feed intake but not the body weight, which led to higher feed conversion ratio. Chickens in LL group exhibited fear-related behaviors, which was associated with higher corticosterone, lower melatonin and 5-HT levels. Concurrently, constant light exposure increased the mRNA expression of clock-related genes and suppressed the expression of antioxidative genes in the hippocampus. Moreover, brain derived neurotrophic factor/extracel ular signal-regulated kinase(BDNF/ERK) pathway was suppressed in the hippocampus of chickens exposed to constant light in the first week post ***: These findings indicate that constant light exposure in early life suppress melatonin secretion and disrupts hippocampal expression of genes involved in circadian clock and BDNF/ERK pathway, thereby contributing to fear-related behaviors in the chicken.

Chlorella pyrenoidosa(Chlorophyceae)is widely cultured for production of health food and animal *** outdoors,mass cultivation of *** often suffers from high temperature.A better understanding of the effects of high temperature on photosynthesis and photoprotection can help optimize the productivity *** *** this study,we investigated effect of high temperature(35,38,or 41℃)on the balance between photosynthetic light absorption and energy utilization of *** contrast to 30℃,higher temperature of 35 or 38℃did not inhibit the growth of *** in 35℃maintained the ***,the PSI acceptor side in 38℃was over-reduced and PSII reaction centers were over-excited under strong light,which destroyed the balance and generated active oxygen species(AOS).However,the activated antioxidant enzymes might remove completely the over-production of AOS,thereby protect *** cells from *** shows that this *** strain could tolerate as high as 38℃.Furthermore,treatment in 41℃resulted in more lack of the balance than that in 38℃.However,the activities of antioxidant enzymes stopped increasing in 41℃,and were not strong enough to remove the excess ***,treatment in 41℃could decrease the growth *** addition,strong and longtime light exposure would cause serious photodamage to *** cells.

Bamboo-eating giant panda(Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is an enigmatic species,which possesses a carnivore-like short and simple gastrointestinal tract(GIT).Despite the remarkable studies on giant panda,its diet adaptability status continues to be a matter of *** resolve this puzzle,we investigated the functional potential of the giant panda gut microbiome using shotgun metagenomic sequencing of fecal *** also compared our data with similar data from other animal species representing herbivores,carnivores,and omnivores from current and earlier *** found that the giant panda hosts a bear-like gut microbiota distinct from those of herbivores indicated by the metabolic potential of the microbiome in the gut of giant pandas and other ***,the relative abundance of genes involved in cellulose-and hemicellulose-digestion,and enrichment of enzymes associated with pathways of amino acid degradation and biosynthetic reactions in giant pandas echoed a carnivore-like *** significantly,the enzyme assay of the giant panda’s feces indicated the lowest cellulase and xylanase activity among major herbivores,shown by an in-vitro experimental assay of enzyme activity for cellulose and *** of our results consistently indicate that the giant panda is not specialized to digest cellulose and hemicellulose from its bamboo diet,making the giant panda a good mammalian model to’ study the unusual link between the gut microbiome and *** increased food intake of the giant pandas might be a strategy to compensate for the gut microbiome functions,highlighting a strong need of conservation of the native bamboo forest both in high-and low-altitude ranges to meet the great demand of bamboo diet of giant pandas.

Single-cell analysis reveals the lncRNA-MEG3/miRNA-133a-3p/PRRT2 axis regulates skeletal muscle regeneration and myogenesis

Effects of different ratios and concentrations of eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid(DHA) on intestinal B lymphocyte proliferation,IgA secretion and expression of CD5 plus CD79a were studied in vitro using cells isolated from *** was determined by the 3-(4,5- dimethylthiazol -2-yl)- 2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay,and those groups with significant difference were selected to detect the IgA using ELISA *** to the significant difference of IgA secretion,the expression of CD5 and CD79a was analyzed by fluorescent antibody staining and flow *** results showed that EPA and DHA inhibited the in vitro proliferation of lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-stimulated B lymphocytes. EPA and DHA significantly suppressed the ability of LPS-stimulated B cells to secrete IgA with ratios of 1:1 at 20μg/mL and 2:1 at 20μg/mL and 40μg/mL(P < 0.05).In addition,CD5 and CD79a were maximally expressed on LPS-stimulated B cells when the EPA:DHA ratio was 2:1 at 20μg/mL(P < 0.01),suggesting that the inflammatory reaction may be downregulated by the increasing expression of CD5 and CD79a and inhibitive secretion of IgA by B cell.

Skeletal muscle is the largest motor and metabolic organ of the body, which has a robust capacity for regeneration following injury or disease. Delayed regeneration after skeletal muscle injury reduces muscle contractility and leads to dysfunction of innervation. Therefore, identifying the regulation components in skeletal muscle regeneration and determining their molecular mechanisms are important to discover novel therapeutic markers for muscular diseases. Long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) has been implicated in skeletal muscle regeneration. Recent developed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) provides a higher resolution of cellular differences than bulk RNA-seq. Here, we re-analyzed single-cell transcriptomes data of skeletal muscle regeneration and identified lncRNA maternally expressed gene 3 (lncRNA-MEG3) was highly expressed in muscle satellite cells (MuSCs). Further study showed that lncRNA-MEG3 regulates skeletal muscle regeneration via sponging miR-133a-3p to regulate proline-rich transmembrane protein 2 (PRRT2) expression level. These results suggested that lncRNA-MEG3 might be a potential target for skeletal muscle diseases.

A comparative study of the intestinal digestive characteristics of diferent feeds for Holstein cows

This experiment was conducted with lactating Chinese Holstein cows to study the nutritional value of local protein feed resources.A three-step method(TSP)and a modifed three-step method(MTSP)were used to measure the in vitro digestibility of rumen undegraded protein(RUP)for 11 feedstufs and *** experimental feeds were chosen and air-dried to investigate the efects of diferent growth periods and varieties on nutrition value and RUP *** small intestinal digestibility of RUP by TSP in concentrated feed was determined to be higher than that of roughage,approximately 65%.The highest concentrate(79%)was SBM(soybean mean),while the lowest was corn(65%).The proportions of DDGS(with soluble wine lees)and SFM(sunfower meal)were 70.9 and 74.9%,***(alfalfa mowed at the squaring stage)had the highest small intestinal digestibility of RUP(55%)among roughages,and WCS(whole-plant corn silage)had the lowest digestibility(40.5%).When the small intestinal digestibility of RUP was determined using the MTSP method,it exhibited similar results to the TSP ***,the values were generally higher,and there was a strong signifcant correlation between them(R2=0.967,Pfeeds,make a reasonable feed formula to efectively prevent diseases.
