The Omicron variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)was first confirmed in November 2021 in South Africa^([1])and is more transmissible than other sub-variants.^([2])The influence of Omicron in children has been recognized with increased hospital admission rate than Delta wave.^([3,4])But severe clinical outcomes and comorbidity of Omicron are less than Delta in children.^([5])Hospitalized children during the Omicron period were more likely to be younger than that in the pre-Omicron period.^([6])

The novel Coronavirus disease or COVID-19 is a new contagious, dangerous, and deadly viral/immunological systemic disorder with predominantly respiratory features caused by human infection with SARS-CoV-2, which is rapidly spreading from person-to-person all around the world as a pandemic. If the COVID-19 pandemic is not controlled, and then eradicated, it will probably cause the extinction of the human race in the coming years or decades! It shows the fastest multiple genetic mutation for SARS-CoV-2 in the development of the disease. According to the author of this article, an effective vaccine for SARS-CoV-2 will not be made any time soon or may never be made. If it is made, due to the need to use the vaccine several times a year, the staggering cost of vaccine production, its potentially insufficient effect in preventing COVID-19, its possible side effects, and the complexity of its equitable distribution worldwide, it cannot be a significant success in preventing the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, the only way to eradicate COVID-19 pandemic is: simultaneous, synchronized, and universal quarantine for at least 40 days for all the people of the planet as staying at home for 99% of them and staying at workplace for another 1%, that because of the need for their key job, they need to be present at work. By applying the COVID-19 Referral System for screening people infected with SARS-CoV-2 and Persian Gulf Criteria for diagnosis of COVID-19, we recommend home isolation for mild cases of COVID-19 and hospitalization in Corona Center for severe cases. Also, along with these, more and more SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic tests should be performed using highly sensitive kits, and the principles of prevention of becoming infected with the SARS-CoV-2 should be followed carefully and as soon as possible. By applying all the above, success in controlling and suppressing the SARS-CoV-2 epidemics is anticipated.

Background:At present,there is a continuous flow of immigrants from the south of the world to north-western *** immigrants originate from areas of high-prevalence of viral hepatitis and pose a challenge to the healthcare systems of the host *** of this study is to evaluate the prevalence and virological and clinical characteristics of hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection in immigrants and the strategies to identify and take care of the immigrants infected with *** body:We conducted an electronic literature search in several biomedical databases,including PubMed,Google Scholar,Scopus,Web of Science,using different combinations of key words:"HCV infection;chronic hepatitis C,immigrants;low-income countries".We included studies written in English indicating the epidemiological data of HCV infection in the immigrant population,studies that assessed the clinical presentation,clinical management and treatment with directly acting antiviral agent in immigrants,HCV infection is unevenly distributed in different countries,with worldwide prevalence in the general population ranging from 0.5 to 6.5%.In Western countries and Australia this rate ranges from 0.5 to 1.5%,and reaches 2.3%in countries of south-east Asia and eastern Mediterranean regions,3.2%in China,0.9%in India,2.2%in Indonesia and 6.5%in Pakistan;in sub-Saharan Africa the prevalence of HCV infection varies from 4 to 9%.Immigrants and refugees from intermediate/high HCV endemic countries to less-or non-endemic areas are more likely to have an increased risk of HCV infection due to HCV exposure in their countries of *** of the high HCV endemicity in immigrant populations and of the high efficacy of directly acting antiviral agent therapy,a campaign could be undertaken to eradicate the infection in this ***:The healthcare authorities should support screening programs for immigrants,performed with the help of cultural mediators and including educational aspects to break

AIM To assess the efficacy and safety of in vivo electroporation(EP)-mediated dual-plasmid hepatitis B virus(HBV) DNA vaccine vs placebo for sequential combination therapy with lamivudine(LAM) in patients with chronic hepatitis B. METHODS Two hundred and twenty-five patients were randomized to receive either LAM + vaccine(vaccine group, n = 109) or LAM + placebo(control group, n = 116). LAM treatment lasted 72 wk. Patients received the DNA vaccine or placebo by intramuscular injection mediated by EP at weeks 12(start of treatment with vaccine or placebo, SOT), 16, 24, and 36(end of treatment with vaccine or placebo, EOT). RESULTS In the modified intent-to-treat population, morepatients had a decrease in HBV DNA > 2 log10 IU/m L in the vaccine group at week 12 after EOT compared with the control group. A trend toward a difference in the number of patients with undetectable HBV DNA at week 28 after EOT was obtained. Adverse events were similar. In the dynamic per-protocol set, which excluded adefovir(ADV) add-on cases at each time point instantly after ADV administration due to LAM antiviral failure, more patients had a decrease in HBV DNA > 2 log10 IU/mL in the vaccine group at week 12 and 28 after EOT compared with the control group. More patients with undetectable HBV DNA at week 28 after EOT in the vaccine group were also observed. Among patients with a viral load < 1000 copies/mL at week 12, more patients achieved HBeA g seroconversion in the vaccine group than among controls at week 36 after EOT, as well as less virological breakthrough and YMDD mutations. CONCLUSION The primary endpoint was not achieved using the HBV DNA vaccine. The HBV DNA vaccine could only be beneficial in subjects that have achieved initial virological response under LAM chemotherapy.

The development of rapid and sensitive detection technologies for animal epidemic diseases is very important to early diagnosis and disease control. Biosensing technology is a novel biological detection technology developed in recent years and has been listed as one of the five medical inspection technologies in the 21＂ century, which is considered as a rapid and effective technology for detection and diagnosis of animal epidemic diseases. In this paper, the latest research progresses on the application of biosensing technology in detection of bacterial infectious diseases, viral infectious diseases and parasitic diseases were summarized.

Background:Zika virus (ZIKV) and dengue virus (DENV) are closely related flaviviruses primarily transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. Armigeres subalbatus is an emerging and widely distributed mosquito, and ZIKV has been detected and isolated from it. However, it is not clear whether Ar. subalbatus could be a vector for ZIKV and DENV or not. In this study, we investigated the infection and transmission of Ar. subalbatus to ZIKV and ***:A line of Ar. subalbatus was isolated from Guangdong, China, and further identified by the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (COI) gene. The adults of Ar. subalbatus were fed with blood meal containing ZIKV or DENV-2. At 4, 7, 10, 14, and 21 days post-inoculation (dpi), the infections of ZIKV or DENV-2 in the midguts, ovaries and salivary glands were detected and quantified by RT-PCR and RT-qPCR. To assess the transmissibility, suckling mice were exposed to bites of ZIKV-infected mosquitoes, and ZIKV was detected in brain tissue by RT-qPCR and plaque assays. Furthermore, the larvae of Ar. subalbatus were reared in artificial urine containing ZIKV or DENV-2. The infection rates and viral titers of larvae and adults were analyzed by RT-PCR and RT-qPCR, and the viral distribution in larval tissues was observed by immunohistochemistry. Chi-square test and one-way ANOVA analysis were used for assessing the infection rate and viral titer in varied tissues and different time points, ***:Following oral inoculation, ZIKV but not DENV-2 could be detected in Ar. subalbatus midguts at 4 dpi, ovaries at 7 dpi and salivary glands at 10 dpi. The highest infection rate (IR) of ZIKV was 27.8% in midgut at 7 dpi, 9.7% in ovary and 5.6% in salivary gland at 21 dpi. Eight days after being bitten by ZIKV-positive mosquitoes, ZIKV was detected in three brain tissues out of four suckling mice exposed to bites.
