Background： This experiment was conducted to test the hypothesis that vitamin E（Vit E） and acetylsalicylic acid（ASA）, a cyclooxygenase-2（COX-2） inhibitor, will additively reduce the production of the immunosuppressive molecule prostaglandin E_2（PGE_2） and hence reduce inflammatory responses in weaner pigs experimentally infected with an enterotoxigenic strain of E. ***： The experiment was conducted in a research facility with 192 individually-housed male weaner pigs（landrace × large White） weighing 6.6 ± 0.04 kg（mean ± SEM）. The pigs were experimentally infected with an enterotoxigenic strain of E. coli and were allocated to a 2 × 3 factorial design with the respective factors being without and with 125 ppm ASA and three levels of Vit E supplementation（50, 100 or 200 IU/kg diet, dl-α-tocopheryl acetate）.Results： Acetylsalicylic acid supplementation improved average daily gain（P 〈 0.05） and tended to improve feed：gain ratio（P 〈 0.10） during the first 14 d after weaning. Acetylsalicylic acid supplementation also improved（P 〈 0.001） amino acid utilization efficiency（as assessed by plasma urea level） and tended to decrease（P 〈 0.10） PGE2 production in the liver without affecting smal intestinal histology and tight junction protein mR NA expression in the jejunal epithelium. Vitamin E supplementation greater than 100 IU/kg diet sustained both the plasma Vit E concentration（P 〈 0.001） and plasma haptoglobin content（P 〈 0.001） after weaning. However, there was no additive effects of the combined supplementation of ASA and Vit E on performance, intestinal barrier function and inflammatory responses of weaned ***： Although ASA and vitamin E improved amino acid utilization efficiency and reduced acute inflammatory responses, ASA and vitamin E did not additively reduce production of PGE2 and inflammatory responses in weaner pigs experimental y infected with an enterotoxigenic strain of E. coli.

lean manufacturing is often seen as a set of tools that reduce the total cost and improve the quality of manufactured *** lean management philosophy is one which targets waste reduction in every facet of the manufacturing business;however,only recently have studies linked lean management philosophies with improving environmental *** studies suggest that lean manufacturing is more than a set of lean tools that can optimize manufacturing efficiencies;it is a process and mindset that needs to be integrated into daily manufacturing systems to achieve *** foundry industry,as well as manufacturing in general,has significant challenges in the current regulatory and political climate with developing an economically and environmentally sustainable business *** manufacturing has proven itself as a model for both economic sustainability and environmental *** recent studies have shown that both lean and green techniques and "zero-waste" policies also lead to reductions in overall *** these strategies have been examined for general manufacturing,they have not been investigated in detail for the foundry *** paper will review the current literature and describe how lean and green can provide a relevant framework for environmentally and economically sustainable *** of lean and green technologies and techniques which can be applied to foundries in a global context will be described.

Coastal morphological modeling to assess the dynamics of Arklow Bank, Ireland

A numerical modeling and simulation experiment is carried out to assess the sediment dynamics of Arklow Bank, Ireland. To meet a requirement for favorable site selection to establish windmills on the bank, the long-term morphological changes of the coast are studied using the CAMS (Coastal Area Morphological Shell) model of the Mike-21 suite of programs. The morphological modeling of the bank was accomplished by pursuing a probabilistic approach for the observed tide and wave characteristics that contribute significantly to the sediment transport processes over the bank. A series of simulations are performed using Mike-21 NSW (Nearshore Spectral Wind-Wave), HD (Hydrodynamic), and ST (Sand Transport) models to establish the coastal hydraulics parameters. The results of the morphological modeling showed that generally the bank is dynamically stable with most areas of the bank having average bed level changes on the order of ±8 cm/day.

Precision livestock Farming(PlF)is potentially one of the most powerful developments amongst a number of interesting new and upcoming technologies that have the potential to revolutionise the livestock farming *** properly implemented,PlF or Smart Farming could(1)improve or at least objectively document animal welfare on farms;(2)reduce greenhouse gas(GHG)emission and improve environmental performance of farms;(3)facilitate product segmentation and better marketing of livestock products;(4)reduce illegal trading of livestock products;and(5)improve the economic stability of rural ***,there are only a few examples of successful commercialisation of PlF technologies introduced by a small number of commercial companies which are actively involved in the PlF commercialisation *** ensure that the potential of PlF is taken to the industry,it is recommended to:(1)establish a new service industry;(2)verify,demonstrate and publicise the benefits of PlF;(3)better coordinate the efforts of different industry and academic organisations interested in the development and implementation of PlF technologies on farms;and(4)encourage the commercial sectors to assist with professionally managed product development.

Multiple studies have reported decreased emergency department(ED)patient volumes during the coronavirus disease(COVID-19)pandemic,[1-6]including areas most affected by the virus.[7]Most existing studies have investigated general trends in ED presentations and have not examined the impact of COVID-19 on different types of EDs,specific ED patient groups,or illness presentations.

A Subjective Risk Analysis Approach of Container Supply Chains

After the 9/11 terrorism attacks, the lock-out of the American West Ports in 2002 and the breakout of SARS disease in 2003 have further focused mind of both the public and industrialists to take effective and timely measures for assessing and controlling the risks related to container supply chains (CSCs). However, due to the complexity of the risks in the chains, conventional quantitative risk assessment (QRA) methods may not be capable of providing sufficient safety management information, as achieving such a functionality requires enabling the possibility of conducting risk analysis in view of the challenges and uncertainties posed by the unavailability and incompleteness of historical failure data. Combing the fuzzy set theory (FST) and an evidential reasoning (ER) approach, the paper presents a subjective method to deal with the vulnerability-based risks, which are more ubiquitous and uncertain than the traditional hazard-based ones in the chains.

Group living may engender conflict over food,reproduction,or other resources and individuals must be able to manage conflict for social groups to *** signals are an adaptation for establishing and maintaining social hierarchy position,allowing a subordinate individual to avoid protracted and costly aggressive interactions with dominant *** the daffodil cichlid fish(Neolamprologus pulcher),subordinates may use submission signals to resolve conflicts with dominant individuals and maintain their social status within the *** complexity of the physical environment may affect the value of submission signals compared with fleeing or avoidance,which may require certain physical features such as shelters to be *** investigated how the ecological context affected the expression of submission in subordinate daffodil cichlids by examining their behavior under different arrangements of the physical environment within their *** altered the number of shelters provided to daffodil cichlid groups and compared the interactions between dominant and subordinate individuals under each shelter condition by scoring the social and cooperative behaviors of the group *** found that behaviors of group members were modulated by the environment:subordinates displayed fewer submission and fleeing behaviors in more structurally complex environments and dominants were more aggressive to subordinates when more shelters were *** results help to elucidate the role of the physical environment in the modulation of social interactions in group-living animals and may have implications for the welfare of captively housed social cichlid groups.

he bunker industry has faced negative perception to their trust and credibility in recent *** is further compounded by the need for the industry to answer new challenges to meet the requirement of the International Maritime Organization *** aim of this work is to illustrate how blockchain technology may be adopted for aiding in bunker dispute *** demonstrate how blockchain may aid in disputes within the bunker industry,this paper first examines the existing bunker supply process,which involves the formation of contracts under English law,the Bunker Delivery Notes,the different types of disputes that may arise during a bunker transaction and the methods of dispute resolution utilised by the ***,the current literature in relation to blockchain technology and blockchain smart contracts is ***,interviews and surveys within the industry have been conducted to identify the benefits and challenges in adopting blockchain *** research found that blockchains may benefit the bunker supply chain offering the effective resolution of bunker quality ***,blockchains may also serve as a verification tool for electronic bunker delivery notes,which may aid quality and quantity bunker disputes as well as compliance with the new International Maritime Organisation 2020 *** a result,despite the research having shown blockchain to be situationally dependent and having an element of legal uncertainty,blockchain does offer a solution to aid in bunker disputes and for improving the trust and credibility within the bunker industry.
