Indole-derived radical cations, open-shell reactive species, display distinctive dual reactivity due to the carbon-centered radical and more electrophilic carbocation, which frequently appear in a variety of single electron oxidation reactions for synthesizing structurally diverse functionalized indoles and indolines. Electrocatalysis is considered as a synthetically attractive and environmentally friendly alternative for driving the single electron oxidation of indoles. Remarkable achievements in electrocatalytic indolederived radical cation-mediated indole functionalization have been realized so far. This review comprehensively summarizes the recent progresses in the applications of electrocatalytic indole radical cations,including C(sp~2)–H functionalization, dearomative 2,3-difunctionalization, and ring-opening reaction, emphasizing the vital single electron oxidation steps of indoles, the substrates scope and limitations, and the reaction mechanisms.

Iron catalysts are ideal transition metal catalysts because of the Earths abundant, cheap, biocompatible features of iron salts. Iron catalysts often have unique open-shell structures that easily undergo spin crossover in chemical transformations, a feature rarely found in noble metal catalysts. Unfortunately, little is known currently about how the open-shell structure and spin crossover affect the reactivity and selectivity of iron catalysts, which makes the development of iron catalysts a low efficient trial-and-error program. In this paper, a combination of experiments and theoretical calculations revealed that the iron-catalyzed hydrosilylation of alkynes is typical spin-crossover catalysis. Deep insight into the electronic structures of a set of well-defined open-shell active formal Fe(0) catalysts revealed that the spin-delocalization between the iron center and the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand effectively regulates the iron center's spin and oxidation state to meet the opposite electrostatic requirements of oxidative addition and reductive elimination, respectively,and the spin crossover is essential for this electron transfer process. The triplet transition state was essential for achieving high regioselectivity through tuning the nonbonding interactions. These findings provide an important reference for understanding the effect of catalyst spin state on reaction. It is inspiring for the development of iron catalysts and other Earth-abundant metal catalysts, especially from the point of view of ligand development.

Optical communication is a particularly compelling technology for tackling the speed and capacity bottlenecks in data communication in modern society. Currently, the silicon photodetector plays a dominant role in high-speed optical communication across the visible-near-infrared spectrum. However, its intrinsic rigid structure, high working bias and low responsivity essentially limit its application in next-generation flexible optoelectronic devices. Herein, we report a narrow-bandgap non-fullerene acceptor（NFA） with a remarkable π-extension in the direction of both central and end units（CH17） with respect to the Y6 series, which demonstrates a more effective and compact 3D molecular packing, leading to lower trap states and energetic disorders in the photoactive film. Consequently, the optimized solution-processed organic photodetector（OPD） with CH17 exhibits a remarkable response time of 91 ns（λ = 880 nm） due to the high charge mobility and low parasitic capacitance, exceeding the values of most commercial Si photodiodes and all NFA-based OPDs operating in self-powered mode. More significantly, the flexible OPD exhibits negligible performance attenuation（<1%） after bending for 500 cycles, and maintains 96% of its initial performance even after 550 h of indoor exposure. Furthermore, the high-speed OPD demonstrates a high data transmission rate of 80 MHz with a bit error rate of 3.5 × 10-4, meaning it has great potential in next-generation high-speed flexible optical communication systems.

Microcystins(MCs),a family of cyclic heptapeptide cyanotoxins,exists in aquatic environment where cyanobacterial bloom happens,which will accumulate in aquatic organisms and transfer through the food chain to higher trophic levels,posing a health risk to both animals and human bodies.Among various MCs,Microcystin-LR(MC-LR)is worthiest studied for its strong toxicity,ubiquity and widespread.Here in this work,iminodiacetic acid(IDA)decorated magnetic mesoporous silica(mSiO_(2))nanocomposites(Fe_(3)O_(4)@mSiO_(2)-IDA)were facilely synthesized which possessed the merits of large surface area(188.21 m^(2)/g),accessible porosity(2.66 nm),excellent hydrophilicity and rapid responsiveness to magnetic field.Then the composites were successfully employed to the removal process of Microcystin-LR in real water samples followed by Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry(MALDI-TOF MS)analysis,achieving the removal efficiency above 92.5%even after ten recycles of the composites.It provided a potential method for removing MC-LR in aqueous environment with high effectiveness,lower costs and less secondary contamination.

Performance enhancement and active sites identification of Cu-Cd bimetallic oxide derived catalysts for electrochemical CO_(2) reduction

The development of earth-abundant electrocatalysts with high performance for electrochemical CO_(2)reduction(ECR)is of great significance.Cu-based catalysts have been widely investigated for ECR due to their unique ability to generate various carbonaceous products,but directing selectivity toward one certain product and identifying the real active sites during ECR are still full of challenge.Here,after the incorporation of CdO into CuO,the Cu_(0.5)Cd_(0.5)-O catalyst achieves a 10.3-fold enhancement for CO selectivity in comparison with CuO,and a CO faradic efficiency nearly 90%with a current density around20 mA cm^(-2)could maintain at least 60 h.Interestingly,a wide CO/H_(2)ratio(0.07-10)is reached on Cu_(x)Cd_(1-x)-O catalysts by varying the Cu/Cd ratio,demonstrating the potential of syngas production using such catalysts.The results of ex situ XRD,XPS,and in situ Raman reveal that the real active sites of Cu_(0.5)Cd_(0.5)-O catalysts for CO production during ECR reaction are the reconstructed mixed phases of CuCd alloy and CdCO_(3).In situ FTIR and theoretical calculations further implicate the presence of Cd related species promotes the CO desorption and inhibits the H_(2)evolution,thus leading to an enhanced CO generation.

Industry progressing caused the pollutants into the surface and groundwater,including organic pollutants such as phenylenediamine(PD)and heavy metals such as Cr(Ⅵ).Herein,a simple"three-in-one"strategy based on MOF-199 was demonstrated.The MOF-199 catalytic system could be used for the rapid detection of Cr(Ⅵ)and o-phenylenediamine(OPD)in linear ranges of 0.5-50.0μmol/L and 7.0-250.0μmol/L,with the limits of detection of 0.1 and 0.5μmol/L,respectively.This method can also efficiently discriminate PD isomers in just 15 min.Meanwhile,Cr(Ⅵ)was reduced to Cr(Ⅲ)and the elimination of OPD was carried out.Given simple synthesis,high sensitivity,easy operation,and low cost,this method presented a potential platform for on-site detection of pollutants in water samples.

A nickel-hydride(Ni H)-catalyzed migratory and nonmigratory hydroalkylation reaction of 2-alkenyl azaarenes with alkyl iodines has been established through strategic modulation of N-or P-donor ligands.This method enables the synthesis of diverseβ-orγ-branched aromatic N-heterocycles.The mild regiodivergent protocols exhibit wide substrate scope,excellent functional tolerance,and great reaction yield with remarkable regioselectivity.Importantly,deuterium labeling studies reveal Ni H-catalyzed interrupted chain-walking mode as the mechanism behind remotedβ-selective hydroalkylation reaction—an interesting phenomenon mediated through aromatic imine directing groups.

The construction of hydrogels with good mechanical properties and phosphorescent properties is full of challenges.Herein,we report a supramolecular phosphorescent hydrogel with long lifetime,high tensile strength and self-healing property,which can be easily constructed through in-situ thermalinitiated polymerization of isocyanatoethyl acrylate-modifiedβ-cyclodextrin(β-CD-DA)and acrylatemodified adamantane(Ad-DA),acrylic acid(AA),followed by the non-covalent association with carbon dots(CNDs).The lifetime of phosphorescent hydrogel can reach 1261 ms at room temperature,and the quantum yield is 11%.Importantly,through the efficient triplet to singlet Förster resonance energy transfer(TS-FRET),the phosphorescent hydrogel shows the good phosphorescence energy transfer property for organic dyes Rhodamine B and Eosin Y with the delayed fluorescence lifetime up to 730 ms and 585 ms as well as the energy transfer efficiency(Φ_(ET))up to 99.9%and 99.3%,respectively.Moreover,owing to the host-guest interactions betweenβ-CD-DA and Ad-DA,the three-dimensional cross-linked network phosphorescent hydrogel can be easily stretched to 18 times of its original length,and can achieve self-healing of the cut surfaces within 30 min.These results will expand the scope of phosphorescent materials and provide new ideas and opportunities for materials science.

Enantioenriched pyrrolidines and derivatives are ubiquitous substructures in compounds of importance to medicinal and biological chemistry.Herein,we report an efficient cobalt-catalyzed intramolecular asymmetric hydroamination reaction that produces chiral pyrrolidines with good to excellent yield and enantiocontrol.Compared with previously reported radicalinvolved methodologies for enantioenriched pyrrolidines,these conditions feature two elegant versatilities,enabling(1)the use of cobalt-catalyzed hydrogen atom transfer(HAT)to generate organocobalt intermediates that bring radical reaction to organometallic chemistry,and(2)enantioselective intramolecular C-N bond forging through an S_(N)2-like displacement involving dynamic kinetic resolution(DKR).This approach provides a new alternative and efficient methodology for enantioselective radical-involved C-N bond construction that can be used in the synthesis of both chiral pyrrolidines and homologous nitrogen heterocycles.

Efficient and stable PtFe alloy catalyst for electrocatalytic methanol oxidation with high resistance to CO

Direct methanol fuel cells(DMFC) are widely considered to be an ideal green energy conversion device but their widespread applications are limited by the high price of the Pt-based catalysts and the instability in terms of surface CO toxicity in long-term operation.Herein,the PtFe alloy nanoparticles(NPs) with small particle size(~4.12 nm) supported on carbon black catalysts with different Pt/Fe atomic ratios(Pt_(1)Fe_(2)/C,Pt_(3)Fe_(4)/C,Pt_(1)Fe_(1)/C,and Pt_(2)Fe_(1)/C) are successfully prepared for enhanced anti-CO poisoning during methanol oxidation reaction(MOR).The optimal atomic ratio of Pt/Fe for the MOR is 1:2,and the mass activity of Pt_(1)Fe_(2)/C(5.40 A mg_(Pt)^(-1)) is 13.5 times higher than that of conventional commercial Pt/C(Pt/C-JM)(0.40 A mg_(Pt)^(-1)).The introduction of Fe into the Pt lattice forms the PtFe alloy phase,and the electron density of Pt is reduced after forming the PtFe alloy.In-situ Fourier transform infrared results indicate that the addition of oxyphilic metal Fe has reduced the adsorption of reactant molecules on Pt during the MOR.The doping of Fe atoms helps to desorb toxic intermediates and regenerate Pt active sites,promoting the cleavage of C-O bonds with good selectivity of CO_(2)(58.1%).Moreover,the Pt_(1)Fe_(2)/C catalyst exhibits higher CO tolerance,methanol electrooxidation activity,and long-term stability than other Pt_(x)Fe_(y)/C catalysts.
