Performing repeatable duties automatically was the dreams of human being for centuries. Although full autonomy has long been dreamed of by visionaries, many researches have been performed for surface vehicles automation since the last century to get close to this dream stepwise. To increase daily working hours and accuracy and reduce cost, operations such as hydrography are susceptible for autonomy. Beside platform topology, installed sensors and energy resources, the core elements of any autonomous surface vehicle are navigation, guidance and control systems. To perform bathymetry operation in autonomy manner, a reliable and robust navigation algorithm is designed and embedded in an autonomous surface vehicle titled Morvarid. Morvarid is a plug-in hybrid solar powered catamaran boat. The developed algorithm is a combination of extended Kalman filter, search ball and potential field approaches. Many experimental field tests are carried out after simulation in Simulink environment. Test results illustrated the algorithm and improved the path followed by reducing SD and RMSE and there is a good correlation between simulation run and experimental tests.

Considering the effectiveness of maritime transportation,a large number of world’s trade is carried by sea and *** ports and harbors are essential for 24 hourly loading/unloading of *** this regard,bathymetry and monitoring of depth data especially in real time manner would be very valuable and *** plot hydrography map of ports and harbors in the bureau as online and with low cost,a Surface Vehicle(SV)is designed and *** vehicle could navigate in four *** could seat on the boat and run by joystick or stand in slipway and control by Remote Controller(RC)or seat in the office and navigate by a user friend graphical *** the boat could navigate fully autonomous without any *** accuracy and precision of four mentioned navigation modes was the main objective of this *** results illustrated that autonomous mode with Standard Deviation(SD)of below 0.5 m was the most precision and comfortable mode,while RC is the more reliable and trustworthy.

Wave Spectral Patterns during a Historical Cyclone: A Numerical Model for Cyclone Gonu in the Northern Oman Sea

The third generation wind-wave model Mike21-SW was used to study spectral characteristics of waves generated by the historical Cyclone Gonu in June 2007 along and off the iranian coasts on the northern Oman Sea. The model was forced with the cyclone wind field generated using a Holland (1980) model based on cyclone data obtained from the Joint Typhon Warning Center (JTWC). The wave model was calibrated for the northern Oman Sea using bulk and spectral wave data at a station out of the Chabahar Bay. Evolution of directional-frequency spectra during the cyclone was investigated for two locations near the entrance and off the Chabahar Bay. At the offshore station, energy was contributed to the spectrum over an approximately 180 degree directional span that included different local and remotely generated waves. As the cyclone proceeded northwestward, all spectral directions continuously rotated in the clockwise direction at both locations. Frequency spectra at these locations were investigated for four different times corresponding to different locations of Cyclone’s eye and were justified using the sea growth parameter of the Joint North Sea Wave Project (JONSWAP) experiment. Using the modified JONSWAP parameters for hurricane conditions resulted in a frequency spectrum consistent with simulation results.

An Analysis of Formal Risk Assessments for Safety and Security in ports： Empirical Evidence from Container Terminals in Greece

Nowadays, the most prominent risk assessment techniques are founded on the values of measuring and controlling the frequency and the consequences of risks in order to assure an "acceptable level" of "safeness" mainly in the lines of environmental, health and hygiene and port product issues. This paper initially introduces risk assessment approaches within the emerging role of ports. Thereafter, it qualitatively assesses their potential for ports by discussing issues challenging every safety and security approach within the maritime industry such as proactiveness, organization, transparency, cost-effectiveness and, when possible, calibration to specific experiences. Moreover, an empirical study was conducted in order to provide evidence for formal risk assessment for safety and security in the main Greek port container terminals of Piraeus and Thessaloniki. The empirical research is based on in-depth semi-structured interviews with the administrations of container terminals. The results include important findings, regarding the likelihood of appearance of certain risks and their perceived severity in Greek container terminals. The collected answers and their analysis are also important for confirming the suggested theoretical formal risk assessment framework for ports.

Civilian casualties of iranian cities by ballistic missile attacks during the Iraq-lran war （1980-1988）

Abstract：Objective: To determine the nature and extent of iranian casualties by ballistic missile attacks dur-ing the eight years of the Iraq-Iran ***: The data collected about Iraqi missile strikes on iranian cities included the following: date and time, num-ber and type of missiles, cities targeted, and injuries and deaths resulting from impacts of missiles in civilian *** data were extracted from a database that was con-structed by the army staff headquarters based on daily re-ports of iranian army units during the ***: Over a period ofeight years (1980-1988), Iraqi army fired 533 ballistic missiles at iranian *** those, 414 missiles (77.7%) landed on iranian *** impacts of these missiles caused the deaths of 2 312 civil-ians and injured 11 625 *** types of ballistic mis-siles were used: FROG-7, Scud, and AI-Hussein (a modified version of the Scud missile).Twenty-seven cities in Iran were struck by Iraqi ballistic *** highest mortali-ties from ballistic missiles were in Dezful and *** missile attacks continued for 90 months (2748 days).Conclusion: Our results point to the necessity of investigating the psychological consequences of Iraqi bal-listic missile attacks among survivors in 27 iranian cities during the eight years of the Iraq-Iran war。

An Assessment of the Most Sustainable Marine Fuel Based on the Present Regulatory Framework and Future Trends

Since the decrease of the global sulfur limit from 3.5%to 0.5%by the IMO(International maritime organization)on January 1,2020,the shipowners and carriers are obliged to elect between the three available options to comply with the present regulatory *** first available option is utilising exhaust gas cleaning systems called“scrubbers”.By using these filters,the vessels can burn high sulfur *** contrast,the sulfur surplus and other dangerous chemicals are evaporated by spraying alkaline water via an open-loop,closed-loop or hybrid *** other option is using LNG(liquefied natural gas)as fuel,a viable option connected with the constant expansion of the global LNG supply infrastructure ***,this network is yet in its developing ***,the majority of the LNG vessels are primarily coastal vessels operated in European waters,and many supply ports worldwide have not yet developed full-scale LNG supply facilities and proper equipment is not yet ***,ammonia is another potential candidate as zero carbon fuel,but its utilization as a sustainable marine fuel in marine industry is currently under ***,at present the final option is the utilisation of conventional fuels,low on sulfur emissions,such as MGO(marine gasoil)and ULSFO(ultra low sulphur fuel oil).The primary issue is the availability and the cost of those fuels,with the refiners being unable to forecast if they should produce more low-sulfur fuels to meet potentially higher *** the comparative analysis of those options their viability will be evaluated,and a thorough proposal for their utilisation will be provided.

Operation management of green ports and shipping networks: overview and research opportunities

Global ports and maritime shipping networks are important carriers for global supply chain networks, but they are also the main sources of energy consumption and pollution. To limit ship emissions in ports and offshore areas, the International maritime organization, as well as some countries, has issued a series of policies. This study highlights the importance and necessity of investigating emergent research problems in the operation management of green ports and maritime shipping networks. Considerable literature related to this topic is reviewed and discussed. Moreover, a comprehensive research framework on green port and shipping operation management is proposed for future research opportunities. The framework mainly comprises four research areas related to emission control and grading policies. This review may provide new ideas to the academia and industry practitioners for improving the performance and efficiency of the operation management of green ports and maritime shipping networks.

A Study on the Composition of Wastewater Produced during Ship Biofouling Management

The IMO(International maritime organization)recognized the problem of invasive species invasion and adopted the“International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’Ballast Water and Sediments”in 2004,which came into force on September 8,*** 2011,the IMO approved the“Guidelines for the Control and Management of Ships’Biofouling to Minimize the Transfer of Invasive Aquatic Species”to minimize the movement of invasive species by hull-attached organisms and required ships to manage the organisms attached to their *** species enter new environments through ships’ballast water and hull ***,several obstacles to implementing these guidelines have been identified,including a lack of underwater cleaning equipment,regulations on underwater cleaning activities in ports,and difficulty in accessing crevices in underwater *** shipping industry,which is the party responsible for understanding these guidelines,wants to implement them for fuel cost savings resulting from the removal of organisms attached to the hull,but they anticipate significant difficulties in implementing the guidelines due to the obstacles mentioned *** or people remove the organisms attached to the hull underwater,and the resulting wastewater includes various species of organisms and particles of paint and other ***,there is no technology available to sterilize the organisms in the wastewater or stabilize the heavy metals in the paint *** this study,we aim to analyse the characteristics of the wastewater generated from the removal of hull-attached organisms and select the optimal treatment *** organisms in the wastewater generated from the removal of the attached organisms meet the biological treatment standard(D-2)using the sterilization technology applied in the ships’ballast water treatment *** heavy metals and other pollutants in the paint particles generated during removal are treated using stabilization t
