Significance of oxidative stress and antioxidant capacity tests as biomarkers of premature ovarian insufficiency: A case control study

BACKGROUND Premature ovarian insufficiency(POI)is a condition that causes secondary amenorrhea owing to ovarian hypofunction at an early *** follicular depletion results in intractable infertility,thereby considerably reducing the quality of life of *** the continuum in weakened ovarian function,progressing from incipient ovarian failure(IOF)to transitional ovarian failure and further to POI,it is necessary to develop biomarkers for predicting *** oxidative stress states in IOF and POI were comprehensively evaluated via oxidative stress[diacron-reactive oxygen metabolites(d-ROMs)]test and anti-oxidant capacity[biological antioxidant potential(BAP)].METHODS Females presenting with secondary amenorrhea over 4 mo and a follicle stimulating hormone level of>40 mIU/mL were categorized into the POI *** presenting with a normal menstrual cycle and a follicle stimulating hormone level of>10.2 mIU/mL were categorized into the IOF *** females without ovarian hypofunction were categorized into the control *** females aged<40 years who visited our hospital from January 2021 to June 2022,we recruited 11 patients into both POI and IOF *** the potential antioxidant capacity,the relative oxidative stress index(BAP/d-ROMs×100)was calculated,and the oxidative stress defense system was comprehensively *** d-ROMs were significantly higher in the POI and IOF groups than in the control group,(478.2±58.7 ***,434.5±60.6 ***,and 341.1±35.1 ***,respectively)(*** is equivalent to 0.08 mg/dL of hydrogen peroxide).However,no significant difference was found between the POI and IOF *** BAP,no significant difference was found between the control,IOF,and POI groups(2078.5±157.4μmol/L,2116.2±240.2μmol/L,and 2029.0±186.4μmol/L,respectively).The oxidative stress index was significantly higher in the POI and IOF groups than in the control group(23.7±3.3,20.7±3.6,and 16.5±2.1,respectively).However,no signifi

Developing Skills in Intra-Workplace Rehabilitation Education: Paper III

Rehabilitation is a medical discipline which is needed wherever people have lost full functionality, and it is needed increasingly in noncommunicable diseases, such as neurological problems, but also, and perhaps more importantly, in middle- and high-income countries, where populations are growing more aged. The burden is borne by the health care systems, especially where family cannot take the full load of care. Rehabilitation is also a discipline which is carried out most effectively in multi- or interdisciplinary teams, which carry their own weight of learning and group tensions. They are also bound to consider best practice guidelines. Furthermore, there is also a wide gap between learning in college or university and practice in the ward which leads to a loss of confidence in newly trained medical and paramedical personnel such as doctors, nurses, physiatrists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists. There is a genuine need for expert rehabilitation specialists who can mediate within teams as well as between groups and patients and their families. This paper lays out the range of considerations such a rehabilitation therapist must have under their belt. A model is presented. There are also two sets of parameters when using the model in practice. The first is the levels at which it works: hospital, departmental and individual. Then there are the specific challenges. Curriculum practice guidelines work at the hospital and departmental and professional levels;teamwork with its intrinsic challenges is of paramount importance;finally, the individuals will learn how to represent their insights in writing, most specifically represented in full-blown case reports. If the levels and roles coordinate, rehabilitation medicine should develop favourably.

The risk of mpox importation and subsequent outbreak potential in Chinese mainland: a retrospective statistical modelling study

Background The 2022-2023 mpox(monkeypox)outbreak has spread rapidly across multiple countries in the non-endemic region,mainly among men who have sex with men(MSM).In this study,we aimed to evaluate mpox's importation risk,border screening effectiveness and the risk of local outbreak in Chinese *** We estimated the risk of mpox importation in Chinese mainland from April 14 to September 11,2022 using the number of reported mpox cases during this multi-country outbreak from *** and the international air-travel data from Official Aviation *** constructed a probabilistic model to simulate the effectiveness of a border screening scenario during the mpox outbreak and a hypothetical scenario with less stringent quarantine *** we further evaluated the mpox outbreak potential given that undetected mpox infections were introduced into men who have sex with men,considering different transmissibility,population immunity and population *** We found that the reduced international air-travel volume and stringent border entry policy decreased about 94% and 69% mpox importations *** the quarantine policy,15-19% of imported infections would remain *** a case of mpox is introduced into active MSM population with almost no population immunity,the risk of triggering local transmission is estimated at 42%,and would rise to>95% with over six *** Our study demonstrates that the reduced international air-travel volume and stringent border entry policy during the COvID-19 pandemic reduced mpox importations ***,the risk could be sub-stantially higher with the recovery of air-travel volume to pre-pandemic *** could emerge as a public health threat for Chinese mainland given its large MSM community.

Olympus Corporation developed texture and color enhancement imaging(TXI)as a novel image-enhancing endoscopic *** topic highlights a series of hot-topic articles that investigated the efficacy of TXI for gastrointestinal disease identification in the clinical setting.A randomized controlled trial demonstrated improvements in the colorectal adenoma detection rate(ADR)and the mean number of adenomas per procedure(MAP)of TXI compared with those of white-light imaging(WLI)observation(58.7%vs 42.7%,adjusted relative risk 1.35,95%CI:1.17-1.56;1.36 vs 0.89,adjusted incident risk ratio 1.48,95%CI:1.22-1.80,respectively).A cross-over study also showed that the colorectal MAP and ADR in TXI were higher than those in WLI(1.5 vs 1.0,adjusted odds ratio 1.4,95%CI:1.2-1.6;58.2%vs 46.8%,1.5,1.0-2.3,respectively).A randomized controlled trial demonstrated non-inferiority of TXI to narrow-band imaging in the colorectal mean number of adenomas and sessile serrated lesions per procedure(0.29 vs 0.30,difference for non-inferiority-0.01,95%CI:-0.10 to 0.08).A cohort study found that scoring for ulcerative colitis severity using TXI could predict relapse of ulcerative colitis.A cross-sectional study found that TXI improved the gastric cancer detection rate compared to WLI(0.71%vs 0.29%).A cross-sectional study revealed that the sensitivity and accuracy for active Helicobacter pylori gastritis in TXI were higher than those of WLI(69.2%vs 52.5%and 85.3%vs 78.7%,res-pectively).In conclusion,TXI can improve gastrointestinal lesion detection and qualitative ***,further studies on the efficacy of TXI in clinical practice are required.

Changes in muscle strength and risk of cardiovascular disease among middle-aged and older adults in China:Evidence from a prospective cohort study

Background:Evidence indicates that low muscle strength is associated with an increased cardiovascular diseases(CVDs)***,the association between muscle strength changes based on repeated measurements and CVD incidence remains ***:The study used data from the China health and Retirement Longitudinal Study in 2011(Wave 1),2013(Wave 2),2015(Wave 3),and 2018(Wave 4).Low muscle strength was defined as handgrip strength<28 kg for men or<18 kg for women,or chair-rising time≥12 *** on changes in muscle strength from Waves 1 to 2,participants were categorized into four groups of Normal-Normal,Low-Normal,Normal-Low,and *** events,including heart disease and stroke,were recorded using a self-reported questionnaire during Waves 3 and 4 *** proportional hazards models were used to investigate the association between muscle strength changes and CVD incidence after multivariable *** ratios(HRs)and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs)were estimated with the Normal-Normal group as the ***:A total of 1164 CVD cases were identified among 6608 *** to participants with sustained normal muscle strength,the CVD risks increased progressively across groups of the Low-Normal(HR=1.20,95%CI:1.01-1.43),the Normal-Low(HR=1.35,95%CI:1.14-1.60),and the Low-Low(HR=1.76,95%CI:1.49-2.07).Similar patterns were observed for the significant associations between muscle strength status and the incidence risks of heart disease and *** analyses showed that the significant associations between CVD and muscle strength changes were consistent across age,sex,and body mass index(BMI)***:The study found that muscle strength changes were associated with CVD *** suggests that continuous tracking of muscle status may be helpful in screening cardiovascular risk.

Uterine artery pseudoaneurysm caused by hysteroscopic surgery: A case report

BACKGROUND We report a case of uterine artery pseudoaneurysm(UAP)occurrence during hysteroscopic endometrial polypectomy and its treatment via uterine artery embolization(UAE).CASE SUMMARY A 48-year-old primigravid,primiparous patient was incidentally found to have an endometrial polyp during a health checkup,and underwent a hysteroscopic polypectomy at another *** cervix was dilated with a Laminken-R®*** the Laminken-R®was withdrawn,a large amount of genital bleeding was *** bleeding persisted after the hysteroscopic polypectomy,and,as hemostasis became impossible,the patient was transferred to our hospital by *** arrival,transvaginal ultrasonography revealed a 3-cm hypoechoic mass with a swirling internal pulse on the right side of the uterus,and color Doppler ultrasonography showed feeder vessels penetrating the *** contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT)confirmed the presence of a mass at this site,and vascular proliferation was observed within the uterine ***,UAP was diagnosed,and UAE was *** patient’s postoperative course was uneventful,and 6 mo post-UAE,no recurrence of blood flow to the UAP was *** When abnormal genital bleeding occurs during hysteroscopic surgery,ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced CT can assist in the detection of early UAPs.

Oral colonic nano-drug delivery system has attracted growing attention in treating colon cancer for their excellent ***,the unique and complex structure of the gastrointestinal tract is still an obstacle to the safe delivery of drugs targeting sites in colon ***,we designed magnetically driven dual-targeted oral colonic nanoparticles loaded with chlorogenic acid using pectin and oleic acid-modified iron oxide(Fe3O4@OA).Specific degradation of pectin by pectinase produced by colonic flora and magnetic fields applied to the colon confers specific targeting of nanoparticles to the *** order to overcome the challenge of preparing magnetically driven nanoparticles with small and homogeneous particle sizes by a single conventional method,we developed the combined ultrasound-emulsification *** average particle size of the prepared nanoparticles was 81.04±1.02 nm,which showed good drug release in the simulated colonic *** vitro anticancer studies,the drug-loaded nanoparticles possess an obvious toxicity and apoptosis-inducing ability against cancer ***,the hemolysis results demonstrated the safety of the nanoplatform(PET/CGA/Fe_(3)O_(4)@OA).This work holds broad prospects as a new treatment modality for colon cancer.

Pregnancy stressors and postpartum symptoms of depression and anxiety:the moderating role of a cognitivebehavioural therapy(CBT)intervention
