The international agency for research on cancer(IARC) evaluation of the carcinogenicity of outdoor air pollution:focus on China

The international agency for research on cancer(IARC)has classified outdoor air pollution and the particulate matter(PM)in outdoor air pollution as carcinogenic to humans,as based on sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in humans and experimental animals and strong support by mechanistic *** data with important contributions to the evaluation are reviewed,highlighting the data with particular relevance to China,and implications of the evaluation with respect to China are *** air pollution levels in Chinese cities are among the highest observed in the world today and frequently exceed healthbased national and international *** from high-quality epidemiologic studies in Asia,Europe,and North America consistently show positive associations between lung cancer and PM exposure and other indicators of air pollution,which persist after adjustment for important lung cancer risk factors,such as tobacco *** data from China are limited but nevertheless indicate an increased risk of lung cancer associated with several air *** cancer risk is also observed in experimental animals exposed to polluted outdoor air or extracted *** exposure of several species to outdoor air pollution is associated with markers of genetic damage that have been linked to increased cancer risk in *** studies from China,especially genetic biomarker studies in exposed populations,support that the polluted air in China is genotoxic and carcinogenic to *** evaluation by IARC indicates both the need for further research into the cancer risks associated with exposure to air pollution in China and the urgent need to act to reduce exposure to the population.

Abnormal metabolism is regarded as an oncogenic hallmark related to tumor progression and therapeutic *** study employed multi-omics,including phosphoproteomics,untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics,to demonstrate that the pAKT2 Ser128 and pCCTαSer315/319/323-positive cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAFs)substantially release phosphatidylcholines(PCs),contributing to the resistance of focal adhesion kinase(FAK)inhibitors in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)***,we observed extremely low levels of FAK Tyr397 expression in CAFs,potentially offering no available target for FAK inhibitors playing their anti-growth role in ***,FAK inhibitor increased the intracellular concentration of Ca2+in CAFs,promoting the formation of AKT2/CCTαcomplex,leading to phosphorylation of CCTαSer315/319/323 sites and eventually enhancing stromal PC *** activation could stimulate the intratumoral Janus kinase 2(JAK2)/Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3)pathway,triggering resistance to FAK *** of clinical samples demonstrated that stromal pAKT2 Ser128 and pCCTαSer315/319/323 are related to the tumor malignancy and reduced patient ***-targeted lipidomics and further validation cohort quantitatively showed that plasma PCs enable to distinguish the malignant extent of ESCC *** conclusion,inhibition of stroma-derived PCs and related pathway could be possible therapeutic strategies for tumor therapy.

Artificial intelligence strengthenes cervical cancer screening–present and future

Cervical cancer is a severe threat to women's health. The majority of cervical cancer cases occur in developing countries. The WHO has proposed screening 70% of women with high-performance tests between 35 and 45 years of age by 2030 to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer. Due to an inadequate health infrastructure and organized screening strategy, most low-and middleincome countries are still far from achieving this goal. As part of the efforts to increase performance of cervical cancer screening, it is necessary to investigate the most accurate, efficient, and effective methods and strategies. Artificial intelligence(AI) is rapidly expanding its application in cancer screening and diagnosis and deep learning algorithms have offered human-like interpretation capabilities on various medical images. AI will soon have a more significant role in improving the implementation of cervical cancer screening, management, and follow-up. This review aims to report the state of AI with respect to cervical cancer screening. We discuss the primary AI applications and development of AI technology for image recognition applied to detection of abnormal cytology and cervical neoplastic diseases, as well as the challenges that we anticipate in the future.

Liberica coffee as an alternative cropping system for sustainable farming on Indonesian Peatlands

Indonesian peatlands are a fragile ecosystem,and to protect it,growing Liberica coffee is a promising way for both the environment and the *** study aimed to evaluate the performance of the liberica coffee on peatland with different water tables and develop an improved cultivation system in this *** study area was in Tanjung Jabung Barat District,Jambi Province,*** plant age is greater than 15 years and the average plant density was about 1000 trees/*** study was conducted in two *** 1st stage was a survey to identify and characterize smallholder liberica coffee farming at three peatland zones,namely 0-100 m,200-300 m,and>400 m from the principal drainage canal,and the 2nd stage was a field experiment to test the effectiveness of amendments in improving liberica coffee growth and improving degraded *** treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications,including manure(M),at the rate of 10 t/hm^(2);lime(L),3 t/hm^(2);peat surface elevation(P),and a farmer’s practice(Control)without manure and/or lime as a *** research revealed that liberica coffee can not tolerate high water table as it may stimulate disease incidence and cause low-quality ***,recycling of organic C of about 17.14 t/(hm^(2)·a)through cherry residue application and litter compensated part of the loss of organic C through CO_(2)emissions,coffee bean removal,and maintaining peat fertility for sustainable *** low yield of(0.70±0.12)t/(hm^(2)∙a)coffee bean could be increased to(0.87±0.24)and(0.94±0.14)t/(hm^(2)∙a)by adding 3 t/(hm^(2)∙3a)of lime or 10 t/(hm^(2)∙a)of manure,*** research revealed that water table management and amendments are two main factors in liberica coffee farming on *** is of great significance to study the cultivation technology of coffee in peatland.

Chemoresistance is a significant barrier to effective cancer *** mechanisms for chemoresistance include reactive oxygen species(ROS)accumulation and expression of chemoresistance-promoting ***,we report a novel function of lncRNA16 in the inhibition of ROS generation and the progression of *** analyzing the serum levels of lncRNA16 in a cohort of 35 patients with non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)and paired serum samples pre-and post-treatment from 10 NSCLC patients receiving neoadjuvant platinum-based chemotherapy,performing immunohistochemistry(IHC)assays on 188 NSCLC tumor samples,using comprehensive identification of RNA-binding proteins by mass spectrometry(ChIRP-MS)assays,as well as RNA immunoprecipitation(RIP)and RNA pull-down analyses,we discovered that patients with increased serum levels of lncRNA16 exhibited a poor response to platinum-based *** expression of hemoglobin subunit beta(HBB)and NDUFAF5 significantly increases with the development of ***16 binds to HBB and promotes HBB accumulation by inhibiting ***16 can also inhibit ROS generation via the HBB/NDUFAF5 axis and function as a scaffold to facilitate the colocalization of HBB and NDUFAF5 in the ***,preclinical studies in mouse models of chemo-resistant NSCLC have suggested that lncRNA16 targeting by trivalent N-acetylgalactosamine(GalNAc)-conjugated siRNA restores chemosensitivity and results in tumor growth inhibition with no detectable toxicity in ***,lncRNA16 is a promising therapeutic target for overcoming chemoresistance,and the combination of first-line platinum-based chemotherapy with lncRNA16 intervention can substantially enhance anti-tumor efficacy.
