Modularized viromimetic polymer nanoparticle vaccines(VPNVaxs) to elicit durable and effective humoral immune responses

Virus-like particle(VLP) vaccines had shown great potential during the COVID-19 pandemic, and was thought to be the next generation of antiviral vaccine technology due to viromimetic structures. However,the time-consuming and complicated processes in establishing a current recombinant-protein–based VLP vaccine has limited its quick launch to the out-bursting pandemic. To simplify and optimize VLP vaccine design, we herein report a kind of viromimetic polymer nanoparticle vaccine(VPNVax), with subunit receptor-binding domain(RBD) proteins conjugated to the surface of polyethylene glycol-b-polylactic acid(PEG-b-PLA) nanoparticles for vaccination against SARS-CoV-2. The preparation of VPNVax based on synthetic polymer particle and chemical post-conjugation makes it possible to rapidly replace the antigens and construct matched vaccines at the emergence of different viruses. Using this modular preparation system, we identified that VPNVax with surface protein coverage of 20%–25% had the best immunostimulatory activity, which could keep high levels of specific antibody titers over 5 months and induce virus neutralizing activity when combined with an aluminum adjuvant. Moreover, the polymer nano-vectors could be armed with more immune-adjuvant functions by loading immunostimulant agents or chemical chirality design. This VPNVax platform provides a novel kind of rapidly producing and efficient vaccine against different variants of SARS-CoV-2 as well as other viral pandemics.

Electrocatalytic CO_(2) reduction at mild conditions is a promising strategy to transform greenhouse gases into fuels or value-added chemicals to solve the increasingly serious environmental and energy problems.The most crucial factor in determining the CO_(2) reduction performance is to develop efficient electrocatalysts with high selectivity and stability.Among the various electrocatalysts,indium-based catalysts have attracted extensive attention due to their non-toxicity,low cost,and high formic acid/formate selectivity.In this work,we comprehensively review the recent development and research progress of indium-based electrocatalysts for CO_(2)RR.The reaction mechanism,reaction pathways,structure-activity relationship,and strategies to enhance the activity of CO_(2)RR on indium-based catalysts have also been briefly presented and discussed.Finally,the existing challenges and future developments for indium-based highperformance catalysts for CO_(2)RR are proposed.

Equilibrium Arrivals to Preemptive Queueing System with Fixed and Random Population Size

A single-server queueing system with preemptive access is considered.Each customer has one attempt to enter the system at its working interval[0,T].As soon as the customer request enters the system,the server immediately starts the service.But when the next request arrives in the system,the previous one leaves the system even he has not finished his service yet.We study a non-cooperative game in which the customers wish to maximize their probability of obtaining service within a certain period of time.We characterize the Nash equilibrium and the price of anarchy,which is defined as the ratio between the optimal and equilibrium social utility.Two models are considered.In the first model the number of players is fixed,while in the second it is random and obeys the Poisson distribution.We demonstrate that there exists a unique symmetric equilibrium for both models.Finally,we calculate the price of anarchy for both models and show that the price of anarchy is not monotone with respect to the number of customers.

Versatile strategies for adult neurogenesis:avenues to repair the injured brain

Brain injuries due to trauma or stroke are major causes of adult death and disability.Unfortunately,few interventions are effective for post-injury repair of brain tissue.After a long debate on whether endogenous neurogenesis actually happens in the adult human brain,there is now substantial evidence to support its occurrence.Although neurogenesis is usually significantly stimulated by injury,the reparative potential of endogenous differentiation from neural stem/progenitor cells is usually insufficient.Alternatively,exogenous stem cell transplantation has shown promising results in animal models,but limitations such as poor long-term survival and inefficient neuronal differentiation make it still challenging for clinical use.Recently,a high focus was placed on glia-to-neuron conversion under single-factor regulation.Despite some inspiring results,the validity of this strategy is still controversial.In this review,we summarize historical findings and recent advances on neurogenesis strategies for neurorepair after brain injury.We also discuss their advantages and drawbacks,as to provide a comprehensive account of their potentials for further studies.

Competitive Resource Allocation Among Urban Congestion Areas in a Modern Big City

The continuing growth of modern big cities leads to their spatial expansion and the emergence of new road connections and urban areas.Areas where large transportation flows of pedestrians,passengers,and drivers come together create demand points,which attract business companies that strive to allocate their resources in the most sought-after places.However,the law of supply and demand restrains companies from allocating all their resources solely in the most popular congestion areas since the more valuable an urban area,the higher the cost to be paid for a resource unit allocation there.As a result,companies act in a non-cooperative manner and try to minimize their own overall costs when allocating resources across available commercial areas in a big city.Non-cooperative behavior of companies leads to the problem of Nash equilibrium search in the game of competing entrepreneurs.In this paper,we study the corresponding resource allocation game under affine cost functions and obtain Nash equilibrium strategies in explicit form.These findings allow us to develop a simple procedure for computing Nash equilibria in the game of companies allocating their resources among urban congestion areas.The computational study demonstrates the dependence of the average price for resource allocation on the number of players and their resource volumes.The outcome of the paper contributes to flow theory and seems to be fresh and useful for managers.

Solid-state batteries are commonly acknowledged as the forthcoming evolution in energy storage technologies.Recent development progress for these rechargeable batteries has notably accelerated their trajectory toward achieving commercial feasibility.In particular,all-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries(ASSLSBs)that rely on lithium-sulfur reversible redox processes exhibit immense potential as an energy storage system,surpassing conventional lithium-ion batteries.This can be attributed predominantly to their exceptional energy density,extended operational lifespan,and heightened safety attributes.Despite these advantages,the adoption of ASSLSBs in the commercial sector has been sluggish.To expedite research and development in this particular area,this article provides a thorough review of the current state of ASSLSBs.We delve into an in-depth analysis of the rationale behind transitioning to ASSLSBs,explore the fundamental scientific principles involved,and provide a comprehensive evaluation of the main challenges faced by ASSLSBs.We suggest that future research in this field should prioritize plummeting the presence of inactive substances,adopting electrodes with optimum performance,minimizing interfacial resistance,and designing a scalable fabrication approach to facilitate the commercialization of ASSLSBs.

On-Chip Micro Temperature Controllers Based on Freestanding Thermoelectric Nano Films for Low-Power Electronics

Multidimensional integration and multifunctional com-ponent assembly have been greatly explored in recent years to extend Moore’s Law of modern microelectronics.However,this inevitably exac-erbates the inhomogeneity of temperature distribution in microsystems,making precise temperature control for electronic components extremely challenging.Herein,we report an on-chip micro temperature controller including a pair of thermoelectric legs with a total area of 50×50μm^(2),which are fabricated from dense and flat freestanding Bi2Te3-based ther-moelectric nano films deposited on a newly developed nano graphene oxide membrane substrate.Its tunable equivalent thermal resistance is controlled by electrical currents to achieve energy-efficient temperature control for low-power electronics.A large cooling temperature difference of 44.5 K at 380 K is achieved with a power consumption of only 445μW,resulting in an ultrahigh temperature control capability over 100 K mW^(-1).Moreover,an ultra-fast cooling rate exceeding 2000 K s^(-1) and excellent reliability of up to 1 million cycles are observed.Our proposed on-chip temperature controller is expected to enable further miniaturization and multifunctional integration on a single chip for microelectronics.

Microscopic and spectroscopic analysis of atmospheric iron-containing single particles in Lhasa,Tibet

The Tibetan Plateau,known as the“Third Pole”,is currently in a state of perturbation caused by intensified human activity.In this study,56 samples were obtained at the five sampling sites in typical area of Lhasa city and their physical and chemical properties were investigated by TEM/EDS,STXM,and NEXAFS spectroscopy.After careful examination of 3387single particles,the results showed that Fe should be one of the most frequent metal elements.The Fe-containing single particles in irregular shape and micrometer size was about7.8%and might be mainly from local sources.Meanwhile,the Fe was located on the subsurface of single particles and might be existed in the form of iron oxide.Interestingly,the core-shell structure of iron-containing particles were about 38.8%and might be present as single-,dual-or triple-core shell structure and multi-core shell structure with the Fe/Si ratios of 17.5,10.5,2.9 and 1.2,respectively.Meanwhile,iron and manganese were found to coexist with identical distributions in the single particles,which might induce a synergistic effect between iron and manganese in catalytic oxidation.Finally,the solid spherical structure of Fe-containing particles without an external layer were about 53.4%.The elements of Fe and Mn were co-existed,and might be presented as iron oxide-manganese oxide-silica composite.Moreover,the ferrous and ferric forms of iron might be co-existed.Such information can be valuable in expanding our understanding of Fe-containing particles in the Tibetan Plateau atmosphere.

Engineering tantalum nitride for efficient photoelectrochemical water splitting

Photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting is a promising energy conversion strategy for directly converting solar energy into green hydrogen fuel.Constructing an efficient PEC device,finding an efficient photoanode material with a suitable band gap and favorable band-edge positions is essential.Tantalum nitride(Ta_(3)N_(5))meets these fundamental requirements,and its theoretical maximum solar-to-hydrogen(STH)conversion efficiency can reach 15.9%.Consequently,it has been widely applied as a photoanode material for the PEC oxygen evolution reaction(OER).However,severe bulk and interface charge recombination,along with sluggish water oxygen kinetics,seriously limits its STH conversion efficiency for PEC water splitting.Herein,this feature article briefly reviews recent advances by our research group in improving the STH conversion efficiency of the Ta_(3)N_(5)photoanode using various strategies,including defect engineering,construction of a gradient band structure,interface engineering,and surface modification of self-healing OER cocatalyst.Up to now,the obtained half-cell STH efficiency has exceeded 4%,providing a solid foundation for the development of tandem PEC devices for unbiased solar-driven overall water splitting toward practical application.

One-loop contributions for h→?■γ and e-e+→hγ in the U（1）B-L extension of the standard model

We present one-loop contributions for h→?■γ with l=ve,μ,τ,e,μ and e-e+→ hγ in the U（1）B-Lextension of the standard model.In the phenomenological results,the signal strengths for h→?■γ at the Large Hadron Collider and for e-e+→hγ at future lepton colliders are analyzed in the physical parameter space for both the vector and chiral B-L models.We found that the contributions from the neutral gauge boson Z' to the signal strengths are rather small.Consequently,the effects will be difficult to probe at future colliders.However,the impacts of charged Higgs and CP-odd Higgs in the chiral B-L model on the signal strengths are significant and can be measured with the help of the initial polarization beams at future lepton colliders.
