In landscape with overpopulation, intensive management for economic production, and where even small natural-vegetation patches are scarce, ecological conservation generally must be developed in the course of economic development. Thus “landscape ecological construction” has evolved in China. This approach adds spatial elements and alters landscape pattern to strengthen inter-ecosystem linkages, improve functioning of damaged ecosystems, and increase productivity and stability of the whole landscape. Five examples of managed landscapes in China are presented: dike-pond systems in a river delta; multi-pond system in a rice paddy landscape; field-grass-wood grid system on unstable sand dunes; shelterbelt network in a crop field area; and field-grass-wood mosaic system on highly erodible hilly farmland. These indicate that ecological conditions can be improved along with increased economic production. Altering landscape structure and ecological flows by introducing small landscape elements in distinct spatial patterns is considered a key to the results. This reshaping of the land has focused on changing patch size, regularity of arrangement, biological and hydrological corridors, and networks, the matrix and grain size. It suggests that such changes can increase negative feedbacks and increase stability. Finally, planning and design principles are pinpointed for the landscape ecological construction process.

Our research focused on eutrophication control and species screening for riparian zone vegetation restoration in the upstream reach of the Hun River. We studied 16 hardwood plant species to investigate nutrient concentrations and nitrogen and phosphorus accumulations. After about 120 days of growth in pots, these 16 species varied in dry matter biomass, ranging from 15.13 to 637.16 g. Total nitrogen （TN） and total phosphorus （TP） concentrations and distribution in roots, stems and foliage differed both within and between tested species. Mean TN and TP accumulation ranged from 0.167 to 14.730 g per plant and from 0.016 to 1.20 g, respectively. All 16 species, but especially Lespedeza bicolor, Robinia pseudoacacia and Sorbaria sorbifolia had strong potential to remove TN and TP from soil and could be widely utilized for the restora- tion of destroyed riparian zones in northeast China.

Forest farmers are the basic micro-subjects in southern collectively owned forest, and their willingness towards forest management directly influences forestry development. Thus, to provide subsidies to forest farmers is an important means to encourage the farmers' enthusiasm to manage the forest and promote the healthy and sustainable development of private forest. In order to reduce the supply-demand contradictions and improve the implementation effects of the subsidies system, the design of the system should be based on the real needs of forest farmers. On this basis, a questionnaire survey was designed in this paper to study the preferences of forest farmers to different types of subsidies in the southern collectively owned forest and the influencing factors were analysed by the Logistic Model to search for the reasonable design of the system. It was concluded that the forest farmers with different backgrounds show different preference to the subsidies, which, to a certain extent, reflects the development bottlenecks of forestry, and lays a foundation for the design of subsidies system.

This paper described the main four basic models of ideal landscape in the Mount Lushan National Park as Kunlunshan model, Xumishan model, Peach flower land model, Christian model. Five typical places in Mount Lushan with the ideal landscape characteristics like the East Grove Temple, White Deer Cave Academy, Simplicity and Tranquility Monastery, Lushan Valley, and Villa-cluster of the East Valley were analyzed, and the integration of the basic models for each place was discussed to make the realistic landscape conform to the ideal needs. Moreover, the discussions also involved the characteristics of ideal landscape that are featured in resource, culture, structure, function, process, scale and region. In conclusion, ideal landscape in the Mount Lushan National Park was the product of the interaction between human and nature. Mount Lushan inherits the essence of Chinese traditional culture with a history of more than 1000 years; and it also absorbs the manna of the Western culture as well as the exchanges between nature and humanities together with the conflict and adaptation among different cultures. The natural landscape could be satisfied with the survival demand and cultural taste of mankind by the way of ecological planning.

Land-cover change can affect inland fisheries,which underpin food security of millions of people *** of forests from very large floodplains has been found to decrease fish catch via loss of feeding and nursery habitat for ***,it is unknown if similar effects occur in smaller rivers with limited floodplain *** is also known about the mechanisms by which land-cover changes affect inland fish ***,we assessed land-use and land-cover(LULC)effects on fish catch,diet,and condition at sites in two medium-sized rivers of Cameroon,in Central *** found that LULC explained 30%of the variation in fish catch,with the catch of five species being positively,and of two species being negatively,related to floodplain *** niche breadth of fish diets was higher in the river surrounded by forests than in the river surrounded by agricultural ***,contrary to expectations,condition of the fish,as indicated by occurrence of diseases or deformities,eroded fins,lesions or tumors,was not related to *** results support the notions that floodplain forests support fish populations in rivers with limited floodplain areas in ways similar to that of rivers with large floodplains,and that LULC affects fish populations via changes in fish diets and instream habitat features(i.e.,riparian canopy closure,water clarity,substrate heterogeneity,and habitat volume).These effects imply that prevailing changes in LULC threaten the food and livelihood security services provided by inland fisheries,highlighting the importance of policies that maintain native vegetation along riverbanks and in floodplain areas.

In our previous study,a heat-induced differentially expressed WRKY-IIe gene LlWRKY22 is isolated from lily(Lilium longiflorum),which acts as a positive role in thermotolerance,but whether it is involved in other stress responses is ***,the expression of LlWRKY22 was indicated to be positively influenced by heat,salt,or mannitol treatments,and its promoter activity was also enhanced after heat,salt,or mannitol *** addition,LlWRKY22 responded to ABA treatment,which activated its expression and also increased the promoter *** of LlWRKY22 in Arabidopsis contributed to growth defects and early ***,compared with the wild type,the ABA sensitivity in transgenic lines was increased in both the germination stage and late growth *** analysis showed that LlWRKY22 overexpression elevated the thermotolerance of transgenic plants and induced the expression of AtDREB2A,AtDREB2B,AtDREB2C,and *** salt and mannitol tolerances of the overexpression lines were also ***,our results illustrated that LlWRKY22 is affected by heat,salt,and osmotic stresses,and positively regulates heat,salt,and osmotic tolerances,which reveals that it acts as a generalist character responding to different abiotic *** further to that,the regulatory pathway of LlWRKY22 also involves in ABA signaling.

[Objectives]This study aimed to study the tissue culture technique of Betula microphylla Bunge var. paludosa. [Methods]Taking seeds as explant,seedlings of B. microphylla were cultured. Then,stem sections with leaves were cut off and subjected to induction of clustered shoots. Finally,the rooting and transplanting of adventitious shoots were completed. Thus,the tissue culture system of B. microphylla was established. [Results]The natural seed germination induction medium was Murashige and Skoog( MS),and the germination rate was31%. The most suitable shoot induction medium was WPM medium added with 1. 0 mg/L of 6-benzylaminopurine( BA),and the multiplication coefficient was 13. 7. The rooting medium was woody Plant medium( WPM) added with 1. 0 mg/L of indole-3-butytric acid( IBA),and the rooting rate was 100%. The transplanting substrate for tissue-cultured seedlings was composed of humus soil,vermiculite and perlite( V∶ V∶ V =4∶3∶3),and the survival rate reached 88. 75%. [Conclusions]The experimental materials are easy to obtain and preserve,and the proliferation is rapid. This study provides technical support for the rapid acquisition of the tissue-cultured seedlings of B. microphylla.
