Dimensional-noise-aware battery lifetime prediction via an EM-TLS framework

Gifted students refer to students with medium intelligence or above, good personality and development expertise and potential in some aspects. As a reserve force for high-end talents, the cultivation of gifted students is of national strategic significance and is also a kind of human concern for the individual values of gifted students. At present, there are many problems in the concept definition, policy guarantee, selection mechanism, curriculum and teaching of gifted students’ education in our country. The solution of these problems not only needs to get rid of people’s prejudice on gifted education, but also needs systematic changes in the selection policies, training programs and teacher training of gifted students.

Machine learning has been massively utilized to construct data-driven solutions for predicting the lifetime of rechargeable batteries in recent years, which project the physical measurements obtained during the early charging/discharging cycles to the remaining useful lifetime. While most existing techniques train the prediction model through minimizing the prediction error only, the errors associated with the physical measurements can also induce negative impact to the prediction accuracy. Although total-least-squares(TLS) regression has been applied to address this issue, it relies on the unrealistic assumption that the distributions of measurement errors on all input variables are equivalent, and cannot appropriately capture the practical characteristics of battery degradation. In order to tackle this challenge, this work intends to model the variations along different input dimensions, thereby improving the accuracy and robustness of battery lifetime prediction. In specific, we propose an innovative EM-TLS framework that enhances the TLS-based prediction to accommodate dimension-variate errors, while simultaneously investigating the distributions of them using expectation-maximization(EM). Experiments have been conducted to validate the proposed method based on the data of commercial Lithium-Ion batteries, where it reduces the prediction error by up to 29.9 % compared with conventional TLS. This demonstrates the immense potential of the proposed method for advancing the R&D of rechargeable batteries.

Formative assessment is a new concept introduced to the English teachers in China by the National English curriculum (NEC). Its main feature is to provide quick feedback to promote learning and improve teaching, compared with summative assessment. Mostly, formative assessment is implemented during teaching practice. It should be a part of teaching and learning process. So far as it is concerned, teachers play a very important role. They should be able to decide or select what to be assessed and how to assess in classroom teaching. Thus, the focus of this article is to show them the practical ways to reach the goal, i.e. how to implement formative assessment more effectively.

To assess the side effects and the continuation rate of combined oral contraceptive （COC） containing desogestrel （Marvelon） during 12 months. Methods This was a post-marketing surveillance study on Marvelon COC among 870 healthy rural women in 5 different counties of Jiangsu Province during 12 months. Results About 24.02% of the women who used Marvelon COC experienced side effects during 12 months. Gastrointestinal disorder, bleeding/spotting and chloasma were ranked the first three in the side effects. The rate of side effects of Marvelon COC users during the first 3 months in southern area of Jiangsu was significantly higher than that of users in northern area of Jiangsu. Most of the users did not experience obvious weight changes i.e., loss or increase in weight of more than 5 kg during 12 months. Blood pressure and biochemical indicators of almost 99% among users were within the normal range. The gross cumulative continuation rate for 12 months was 83.14%; the most common medical reason for discontinuation was gastrointestinal disorder. There was an increased risk of discontinuation use among women with lower educational level. Conclusion Marvelon COC brought fewer side effects and was well accepted when applied in Chinese rural women.

Background The Developmental, Individual-differences, Relationship-based model(DIR/Floortime) is one of the well-known therapies for autism spectrum disorder(ASD), in which its main principle is to promote holistic development of an individual and relationships between the caregivers and children. Parental engagement is an essential element to DIR/Floortime treatment and involved with various factors. Finding those supporting factors and eliminating factors that might be an obstacle for parental engagement are essential for children with ASD to receive the full benefits of *** To examine the association between parents, children and provider and service factors with parental engagement in DIR/Floortime *** This is a cross-sectional study of parents with children aged 2–12 years who were diagnosed with ASD. Data were collected using a parent, child, provider and service factors questionnaire. Patient Health Questionaire-9, Clinical Global Impressions-Severity and Childhood Autism Rating Scale were also used to collect data. For parent engagement in DIR/Floortime, we evaluated quality of parental engagement in DIR/Floortime and parent application of DIR/Floortime techniques at home. Finally, Clinical Global Impressions-Improvement and Functional Emotional Developmental Level were used to assess child *** Parents who were married, had lower income and higher knowledge of DIR/Floortime theory were more likely to have higher parent engagement(χ2=4.43, p=0.035; χ2=13.1, p<0.001 and χ2=4.06, p=0.044 respectively). Furthermore, severity of the diagnosis and the continuation of the treatment significantly correlated with parent engagement(χ2=5.83, p=0.016 and χ2=4.72, p=0.030 respectively). It was found that parents who applied the techniques for more than 1 hour/day, or had a high-quality parent engagement, significantly correlated with better improvement in child development(t=-2.03, p=0.049; t=-2.00, p=0.053, respectively).Conclusio

While quality in education has long been a significant issue,definitions of quality are often taken for granted rather than argued for,allowing the possibility that the criteria used by researchers and planners to judge quality may differ from local stakeholders’perspectives,particularly regarding the place within quality education of the knowledge,culture and language of non-dominant ***,there is an accumulating convergence of research that calls for assessments of quality in education of non-dominant linguistic and cultural groups that engage local stakeholders’*** paper presents a recent study that attempts to do this,investigating the perspectives of students,parents,teachers,and administrators in Sunan Yughur Autonomous County,a multiethnic,multilingual district in rural Gansu,inhabited by several *** one hundred participants in three schools were asked what was important for children to learn in school;including what aspects of local(minority)knowledge,culture and language should be taught as part of school-based *** study found three educational visions in local schools:regular urban education;Chinese-medium,multicultural education;and bilingual,multicultural *** study also found that stakeholders support the latter vision,which reflects society’s actual cultural and linguistic pluralism,as well as much research on quality education for non-dominant *** paper concludes with a call for a comparative approach,both domestic and international,towards the investigation of quality education of non-dominant groups in China.

Cryptography circuits for portable electronic devices provide user authentication and secure data *** circuits should,achieve high performance,occupy small chip area,and handle several cryptographic *** paper proposes a highperformance ASIP(Application specific instruction set processor)for five standard cryptographic algorithms including both block ciphers(AES,Camellia,and ARIA)and stream ciphers(ZUC and SNOW 3G).The processor reaches ASIC-like performance such as 11.6 Gb/s for AES encryption,16.0 Gb/s for ZUC,and 32.0 Gb/s for SNOW3G,etc under the clock frequency of 1.0 GHz with the area consumption of 0.56 mm2(65 nm).Compared with stateof-the-art VLSI designs,our design achieves high performance,low silicon cost,low power consumption,and sufficient *** its programmability,our design can offer algorithm modification when an algorithm supported is unfortunately cracked and invalid to *** product lifetime of our design can thus be extended.

An ocean acidification-simulated system and its application in coral physiological studies

Due to the elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide, ocean acidification(OA) has recently emerged as a research theme in marine biology due to an expected deleterious effect of altered seawater chemistry on calcification. A system simulating future OA scenario is crucial for OA-related studies. Here, we designed an OA-simulated system(OASys) with three solenoid-controlled CO_2 gas channels. The OASys can adjust the pH of the seawater by bubbling CO_2 gas into seawaters via feedback systems. The OASys is very simple in structure with an integrated design and is new-user friendly with the instruction. Moreover, the OASys can monitor and record real-time pH values and can maintain pH levels within 0.02 pH unit. In a 15-d experiment, the OASys was applied to simulate OA in which the expected target pH values were 8.00, 7.80 and 7.60 to study the calcifying response of Galaxea fascicularis. The results showed daily mean seawater pH values held at pH 8.00±0.01, 7.80±0.01 and 7.61±0.01 over15 d. Correspondingly, the coral calcification of G. fascicularis gradually decreased with reduced pH.

Soil microbial mutualists of plants, including mycorrhizal ftmgi, non- mycorrhizal fungi and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria, have been typically characterized for increasing nutrient acquisition and plant growth. More recently, soil microbes have also been shown to increase direct plant defense against above- and below- ground herbivores. Plants, however, do not only rely on direct defenses when attacked, but they can also recruit pest antagonists such as predators and parasitoids, both above and belowground, mainly via the release of volatile organic compounds （i.e., indirect defenses）. In this review, we illustrate the main features and effects of soil microbial mutualists of plants on plant indirect defenses and discuss possible applications within the framework of sustainable crop protection against root- and shoot-feeding arthropod pests. We indicate the main knowledge gaps and the future challenges to be addressed in the study and application of these rnultifaceted interactions.
