Purification and functional assessment of smooth muscle cells derived from mouse embryonic stem cells

Establishment of a chronic left ventricular aneurysm model in rabbit

Objectives To establish a cost-effective and reproducible procedure for induction of chronic left ventricular aneurysm （LVA） in rabbits. Methods Acute myocardial infarction （AMI） was induced in 35 rabbits via concomitant ligation of the left anterior descending （LAD） coronary artery and the circumflex （Cx） branch at the middle portion. Development of AMI was co n-firmed by ST segment elevation and akinesis of the occluded area. Echocardiography, pathological evaluation, and agar i n-tra-chamber casting were utilized to validate the formation of LVA four weeks after the surgery. Left ventricular end systolic pressure （LVESP） and diastolic pressure （LVEDP） were measured before, immediately after and four weeks after ligation. D i-mensions of the ventricular chamber, thickness of the interventricular septum （IVS） and the left ventricular posterior wall （LVPW） left ventricular end diastolic volume （LVEDV） and systolic volume （LVESV）, and ejection fraction （EF） were recorded by echo-cardiography. Results Thirty one （88.6%） rabbits survived myocardial infarction and 26 of them developed aneurysm （83.9%）. The mean area of aneurysm was 33.4% ＆#177; 2.4% of the left ventricle. LVEF markedly decreased after LVA formation, whereas LVEDV, LVESV and the thickness of IVS as well as the dimension of ventricular chamber from apex to mitral valve annulus significantly increased. LVESP immediately dropped after ligation and recovered to a small extent after LVA formation. LVEDP progressively increased after ligation till LVA formation. Areas in the left ventricle （LV） that underwent fibrosis included the apex, anterior wall and lateral wall but not IVS. Agar intra-chamber cast showed that the bulging of LV wall was prominent in the area of aneurysm. Conclusions Ligation of LAD and Cx at the middle portion could induce develo pment of LVA at a mean area ratio of 33.4%＆#177;2.4%which involves the apex, anterior wall and lateral wall of the LV.

Generalization of integral inequalities and (c_1,c_1) stability of neutral differential equations with time-varying delays

A uniform stability analysis is developed for a type of neutral delays differential equations which depend on more general nonlinear integral inequalities. Many original investigations and results are obtained. Firstly, generations of two integral nonlinear inequalities are presented, which are very effective in dealing with the complicated integro-differential inequalities whose variable exponents are greater than zero. Compared with existed integral inequalities, those proposed here can be applied to more complicated differential equations, such as time-varying delay neutral differential equations. Secondly, the notions of (ω, Ω) uniform stable and (ω, Ω) uniform asymptotically stable, especially (c1, c1) uniform stable and (c1, c1) uniform asymptotically stable, are presented. Sufficient conditions on about (c1, c1) uniform stable and (c1, c1) uniform asymptotically stable of time-varying delay neutral differential equations are established by the proposed integral inequalities. Finally, a complex numerical example is presented to illustrate the main results effectively. The above work allows to provide further applications on the proposed stability analysis and control system design for different nonlinear systems. © 2017 Beijing institute of Aerospace Information.

Synergistic effects of elevated homocysteine level and abnormal blood lipids on the onset of stroke

Hyperhomocysteinemia and abnormal blood lipids are independent risk factors for stroke. However, whether both factors exert a synergistic effect in the onset of stroke remains unclear. The present study is a retrospective analysJs of 2 089 cases of stroke and 2 089 control cases of simple in- tervertebral disk protrusion using a paired multivariate logistic regression method. Adjusting for known confounding variables including the patients＇ age, gender, smoking status, alcohol con- sumption status, patient and family medical history, and clinical biochemical indices, elevated ho- mocysteine level was related to the onset of stroke. Patients with elevated homocysteJne levels and abnormal blood lipids showed a 40.9 % increase in the risk for stroke compared to patients with normal homocysteine levels and blood lipids （odds ratio 1.409; 95% confidence interval 1.127-1.761）. These results indicate that elevated homocysteine and abnormal blood lipids exert synergistic effects in the onset of stroke. Patients with elevated homocysteine levels and abnormal blood lipids are predisposed to stroke.

Association between physiological responses after exercise at low altitude and acute mountain sickness upon ascent is sex-dependent

Background:Acute mountain sickness(AMS)is the mildest form of acute altitude illnesses,and consists of nonspecific symptoms when unacclimatized persons ascend to elevation of≥2500 *** factors of AMS include:the altitude,individual susceptibility,ascending rate and degree of *** the current study,we examined whether physiological response at low altitude could predict the development of ***:A total of 111 healthy adult healthy volunteers participated in this trial;and 99(67 men and 32 women)completed the entire study *** were asked to complete a 9-min exercise program using a mechanically braked bicycle ergometer at low altitude(500 m).Heart rate,blood pressure(BP)and pulse oxygen saturation(SpO2)were recorded prior to and during the last minute of *** ascent from 500 m to 4100 m was completed in 2 *** was defined as≥3 points in a 4-item Lake Louise Score,with at least one point from headache wat 6–8 h after the ***:Among the 99 assessable subjects,47(23 men and 24 women)developed AMS at 4100 *** comparison to the subjects without AMS,those who developed AMS had lower proportion of men(48.9%vs.84.6%,P<0.001),height(168.4±5.9 cm vs.171.3±6.1 cm,P=0.019),weight(62.0±10.0 kg vs.66.7±8.6 kg,P=0.014)and proportion of smokers(23.4%vs.51.9%,P=0.004).Multivariate regression analysis revealed the following independent risks for AMS:female sex(odds ratio(OR)=6.32,P<0.001),SpO2 change upon exercise at low altitude(OR=0.63,P=0.002)and systolic BP change after the ascent(OR=0.96,P=0.029).Women had larger reduction in SpO2 after the ascent,higher AMS percentage and absolute AMS *** reduction of SpO2 after exercise was associated with both AMS incidence(P=0.001)and AMS score(P<0.001)in men but not in ***:Larger SpO2 reduction after exercise at low altitude was an independent risk for AMS upon *** an association was more robust in men than in *** registration:Chinese Clinical

Effect of Home Blood Pressure Telemonitoring Plus Additional Support on Blood Pressure Control:A Randomized Clinical Trial

Objective Current clinical evidence on the effects of home blood pressure telemonitoring(HBPT)on improving blood pressure control comes entirely from developed ***,we performed this randomized controlled trial to evaluate whether HBPT plus support(patient education and clinician remote hypertension management)improves blood pressure control more than usual care(UC)in the Chinese *** This single-center,randomized controlled study was conducted in Beijing,*** aged 30-75 years were eligible for enrolment if they had blood pressure[systolic(SBP)≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic(DBP)≥90 mmHg;or SBP≥130 mmHg and/or DBP≥80 mmHg with diabetes].We recruited 190 patients randomized to either the HBPT or the UC groups for 12 *** primary endpoints were blood pressure reduction and the proportion of patients achieving the target blood *** Totally,172 patients completed the study,the HBPT plus support group(n=84),and the UC group(n=88).Patients in the plus support group showed a greater reduction in mean ambulatory blood pressure than those in the UC *** plus support group had a significantly higher proportion of patients who achieved the target blood pressure and maintained a dipper blood pressure pattern at the12th week of ***,the patients in the plus support group showed lower blood pressure variability and higher drug adherence than those in the UC *** HBPT plus additional support results in greater blood pressure reduction,better blood pressure control,a higher proportion of dipper blood pressure patterns,lower blood pressure variability,and higher drug adherence than *** development of telemedicine may be the cornerstone of hypertension management in primary care.
